Sorry everyone for kind of dropping off the map for a while, real life has been kind of a ***** lately.
Nice, I'm not on Discord often, but the next time I log on I'll be sure to join.
Not what I was hoping for, but not surprising. 18th isn't too bad, but it's a far cry from the sorts of results she was pulling a couple years ago. Reddit definitely has some community bandwagoning, so who knows how much these results really mean. On the other hand, I am pretty sure the Shantae hype has died down since the ballot ended and HGH released (still significantly above her pre-ballot level of support though I think). I doubt it matters now anyway, they probably finished picking out the new roster a long time ago. If they do DLC characters, there is a chance that current popularity will influence their choices, but even then I kind of doubt it.
I remember reading about that tour by Sakurai too, but I went looking for a source for it a while ago and couldn't find anything other than the same tweet that you shared:
My conclusion is that someone saw that tweet and the picture shared by James Montagna, and then jumped to the conclusion that Sakurai must have been there touring their studio. We don't actually know when that picture was taken though, so unfortunately there is no solid evidence that the tour took place at all, at least not to my knowledge. It may have, the tweet is certainly still suggestive, but we just don't know.
Yeah exactly this. Shantae (and Shovel Knight for that matter) probably got close to zero votes in Japan during the ballot, which doesn't do her chances any good, but if they discussed Shantae at all, her localization and initial fan response in Japan would have definitely come up in that conversation.
Half Genie Hero isn't bad, but to be honest I don't think I would support Shantae for Smash either if that was the only Shantae game I played. I would tell you that you've gotta play the original Shantae game first, but everyone else will tell you that Pirate's Curse is the one to base your decision on. Storyline-wise it doesn't really matter that much, there is an overarching story but it's not that big of a deal.
Maybe I'll have to give this one a try after all. I played through the rest of the DLC, and it was nice, but I've played those levels sooo many times already.

I gotta be honest man, I think supporting Risky Boots for Smash is not just pointless but probably counterproductive. It's totally cool to want her in Smash, and to think she'd make a cool fighter. I'm with you on that: Risky obviously has great moveset potential, she's a distinctive and recurring character, and she'd be the first female villain (no Wendy doesn't count). But remember that even the Sonic series only has one rep. It's a big deal to include any third party character in Smash, let alone an indie character. Two characters from a single third party franchise is unheard of. Shantae in Smash is a realistic possibility, even if the likelihood is hard to gauge. Risky Boots in Smash is not a realistic possibility. Most people don't take non-realistic character requests seriously, so if you advocate for Risky alongside Shantae, you risk people dismissing your whole message. Of course there's probably no point in campaigning now anyways, so maybe that doesn't matter, but I would keep it in mind all the same.
