Hey,

I play Marth and I don't really know what to use: I usually short hop with X and use the C-stick in the air, but then I can't do Nairs. Sometimes I try with Z but the it usually grabs instead of Short-hop Fairing...
Another problem is that with this setup I barely use A, so of course, very little tilts (and Marth's are great...), and I abuse Fsmash way to much.

How do you play? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

well you probably do this already, but I learned most of the basics like when to use what atack and how to use tilt by watching video's.

what I also did was force my self to use tilts even when I wasn't sure if it would help, keep doing this and you will begin to notice when wich tilt is usefull etc, and I use my A button for short hop fairing instead of my C stick, it feels like I keep my forward momentum better that way.

Hope it helped, and great to see someone new who made an intelligent and curious post here :]

good to see someone new here all together »_»

Yeah, welcome!

Try using the y button to jump. You may find that you have easier and quicker access to the A button that way when you jump. And learning how to use tilts just comes with experimentation. The best way is to just force yourself to use the a button for aerials and soon you'll find your self relying on it for tilts etc.

Learn which aerials you are comfortable with so that you can get the fast fall in anytime during the aerial. Everyone uses different buttons for different moves, but learning tilts is VERY important for all characters.

I play with the x button and use the c-stick for alot of my arrials. I found the best way is to put the right part of my thumb on x. And then when ever you need to push A just roll toward the left. Then you dont have pick your thumb up when you nair.

that's crazy, thinking of shffling like that seems so foreign and awkward to me. Like wavedashing with the R button *shudder*

Anyway, it's really cool to see newcomers in the melee threads.
For good marth info, go to the marth boards in character specific and try to pick up some tips and tricks in the guides there. I'm pretty sure the marth boards take their stuff seriously.

Not like those silly yoshi boards.

Haha, I do the exact same thing. I'm sure it's probably advantageous to use both L and R (one for l-cancelling, one for WDing, both for WDing out of shield), but I'm too lazy to learn everything again. My poor right hand does so much!
