Anyway, some stuff darker than Shadow the Hedgehog:
- Any survival horror video game series done right
- Soul Eater (especially the manga, though I'd say it's more on the realm of freaky and surreal than actually dark)
- Fullmetal Alchemist
- Death Note
- Attack on Titan (or really, any minimally well done post-apocalyptic story)
- Fire Emblem series (some parts, mainly those that portray war in a more realistic light. The Future Past DLC of Awakening can qualify too.)

Shadow the Hedgehog was so edgy I almost cut my arm off while playing it.

Jokes aside that game tried so hard to be dark and serious it looped right back around into hammy and cheesy. The only other game I can think of that did that so well is RE6, where you fight a human transformer that can turn into a giant zombie t-rex.

Well obviously it can't be taken seriously, but I honestly think the developers intended for it to be serious. They failed.

Not sure, I just remember that there was one where you literally get cut in half from the underwater rotary blades, which is pretty much darker than Shadow as a whole.

Though part of what makes Conker and Madoka so dark is because they're (obviously) presented as rather cutesy and kiddie until someone gets their intestines torn out. I assume if they weren't presented in such a way then the disturbing value would be lost a bit.

It's death is just going to be much more excruciating and slow.

Of course, neither Mega Man or Resident Evil would be dying if
