Official Smash Ultimate Discussion

Almost one month has passed since release. In retrospect....

  • This is by far the best Smash ever. Like, I don't even know how they will top this.

  • Pretty freakin' good; I have a few qualms over things like internet play, balancing issues, etc.

  • It's ok, but [insert Smash game here] is better.

  • I'd rather play Parcheesi.

Man, I love how they're giving so many of the standard attacks official names now.

The fact that Dr. Mario's down air is called "Bone Drill" is amazing.

I think I'm gonna practice with Toon Link soon.
I'd like to think of move names for some of my boi's stranger moves...

His down tilt is the "Ceiling Fan"
His jab is "Resshuken"
His back air is "Silent But Deadly"
And his pummel is "What I wanted to do to Baby Mario for 25 Years"

Does that mean that, when people connect with Dr. Mario's Down Air, we can officially call it taking them to the "Bone Zone"?

Does anybody have a opinion if the Mario event exclusive spirits will become rare if they don't come back because I have the Dice block and the River raft

Where did you find this beautiful piece of information?
The individual character tips in the Tips section give several of the characters' standard attacks names.

For Example:
:ultdoc: Up Smash = Ear, Nose, and Throat
:ulttoonlink:Up Tilt = Half-Moon Slash
:ultsnake: Down Throw = Silent Takedown
:ultgnw: Up Air = Spitball Sparky
:ultcorrin:Down Air = Dragon's Piercing Drop
:ultpikachu:Down Smash = Electric Flower

Not all of the characters have extra attack names though. Young Link for example doesn't have any.

One of my favorites is Mewtwo's Up-Throw, "Psychic Whirlwind".

Apparently Yoshi's Forward Air is called "Noggin Dunk"

Pretty accurate I'd say.

Rumours have been going up and Directs are typically in early January, plus it's been 4 months since the last one and people are anxious about the new one. I think it's been delayed because similar to the last one which got delayed due to the earthquake, we're seeing all these announcements for the Switch like Yoshi's Flipping Island's release date, NES games and Dragon Dogma getting a por which is similar to how back in September all these companies announcing they have Switch games which appeared in the delayed direct
Usually if there is a General Direct in January though, they're ****ing big. Like, usually they're one of the best Directs of the year. That is if it actually is a full Direct and not a Mini. I feel it's more likely they're showing this stuff early because of how packed the January Direct may be. But that's just my personal speculation.

Considering the events they've done, there's a non-zero chance that they'll show up normally outside of the event.

They just might be a rare occurrence.

Honestly I don't check the tip section, so I'm curious now...
Unfortunately, that's one of the only ones Yoshi has.

There's only one other. Down Air is called "Flutter Kick".
I'm pretty sure it was already called that, so Noggin Dunk is the only new one.

Some of those move names were listed in the official Super Smash Bros. Melee guide many years ago. Don't know if there was ever something like that for Brawl and 4.

In that guide, Mewtwo's Usmash is Galaxy Force, his Fsmash is Shadow Blast and his fair is Shadow Scratch, which are listed in Ultimate as well.

Some of the Alt Trophies in Smash 4 gave moves official names as well.

R.O.B.'s F-Smash for example was named "S3".

And Marth's Up-Smash is called "Justice Sword".

Unfortunately, they haven't named all the moves in a character's moveset.

That said though, I've taken to calling :ultike:'s forward smash "Black Night" on account of the fact that it's directly ripped from BK.
He was his final teacher after all.

Unless Bill Rizer from Contra gets in, I want all of :ultsnake: or :ultfalcon: moves named after the various nicknames MST3K gave to David Ryder in their riff of Space Mutiny:
  • Slab Bulkhead
  • Bridge Largemeat
  • Punt Speedchunk
  • Butch Deadlift
  • Hold Bigflank
  • Splint Chesthair
  • Flint Ironstag
  • Bolt Vanderhuge
  • Thick McRunfast
  • Blast Hardcheese
  • Buff Drinklots
  • Crunch Slamchest
  • Fist Rockbone
  • Stump Beefknob
  • Smash Lampjaw
  • Punch Rockgroin
  • Buck Plankchest
  • Stump Junkman
  • Dirk Hardpec
  • Rip Steakface
  • Slate Slabrock
  • Crud Bonemeal
  • Brick Hardmeat
  • Rip Slagcheek
  • Punch Sideiron
  • Gristle McThornbody
  • Slate Fistcrunch
  • Buff Hardback
  • Bob Johnson (...wait)
  • Blast Thickneck
  • Crunch Buttsteak
  • Slab Squatthrust
  • Lump Beefbroth
  • Touch Rustrod
  • Beef Blastbody
  • Big McLargehuge
  • Smoke Manmuscle
  • Beat Punchmeat
  • Hack Blowfist
  • Roll Fizzlebeef

Punch Sideiron works pretty well for :ultfalcon: side smash...

Besides Erdrick who seems to be looking increasingly real I don’t believe any of the other rumored DLC characters.
There’s no way they’d reveal all of them as early as that 5ch leak said.
This isn’t my personal bias against Steve and everyone who supports him talking, I’ve been a massive Doomguy supporter since Ultimate was announced.
Also I’d say to discount any and all leaks with western characters in them. There has never been a western-owned character in Smash. No, K. Rool and Diddy do not count, they might’ve been made by Rare but Nintendo owns them.

I'm starting to have doubts about Erdrick. It might have been his redesign version at first, but new data suggests he's the chibi version, and now the sliding stuff is starting to open up to the possibility of it being a Slime instead. I was getting excited for his inclusion, but I guess we'll have to stick with Slime.
