Alright folks, welcome back, sorry for the 2 week delay but I just wanted to get a reset going for some slight changes to the formula.

From now on, votes will also last a week, and coexist alongside the next challenge. challenges will open and close every Monday, no more weird Tuesday stuff.

With that out of the way, let's look at the submissions for this zelda challenge!
THE LEGEND OF ZELDA
Resurgence of the Zora

Twenty years after the events of Ocarina of Time, a tragedy occurs. Ganon has reappeared to wreak havoc on Hyrule, but the Hero of Time has not returned to vanquish him. In desperation, the gods decide to flood the kingdom in hopes that the beast king would be vanquished.

You may think this story sounds familiar. However, this shall lead to a different story.

Instead of Hyrule's descendants becoming nomadic islanders living atop the mountains of the old terrain, their descendants are entirely different beings. In truth, they have become a race known as Azors, a new deviation of fishfolk, with their biology split clear down the middle: Their top halves resemble the Hylians of old, while their bottom halves are piscine in nature. But the Hylians are not the only race to evolve into aquatic lifeforms. As you explore the ruins of this land, you'll discover that certain subspecies of Azors were once Gerudo, Gorons, Sheikah, or even Bokoblins.

The story truly begins in earnest 250 years later, with Link being the knight apprentice to Zelda, the Queen of the Azors. Upon traveling on his noble hippocampus Epota, he receives word of an uprising taking place in Azor Canyon. Fearing the worst, he swims back to Zelda reporting this uprising. Feeling a sense of noble pride in her apprentice, Zelda appoints Link as the Hero of the Seas, and gives him the daunting task to reunite the Azor species against this upcoming civil war between aquatic humanoids.

Throughout his journey, Link finds out some effective worldbuilding, as does the player. The Gerudo subspecies has taken to feeding their newborn males to Jabu Jabu when they are born each century, the Goron subspecies is now as lightweight as the rest of the Azor races, the Sheikah subspecies has become even deadlier with their new watery advantages, and the Kokiri subspecies is able to spread out beyond what was once Kokiri Forest, made clear when we see the Azor Knights including a handful of that subspecies in their royal army in the opening cutscenes of the game.

Will Link unite the races of Azors against the advancing Zora Republic? Will Ganon try to reclaim Hyrule for his own? Will the water levels recede as far back as before the flood? You'll just have to play on to find out.
THE LEGEND OF ZELDA: REFLECTIONS OF THE SWORD
This game is supposed to come from a very distant timeline, similar to BOTW/TOTK. We start the game in a battle between Link with Zelda and Ganondorf, allegedly, the battle to end all battles and where the cycle of reincarnation of these three will come to an end. But when Link is near to get the final blow, the sorcerer Malghrim who was aiding his dark lord Ganondorf casted a curse to the Master Sword, a curse that infected the shine of the blade with his malice, since such attack happened in the exact moment Link was at the point to slay Ganondorf, the four of them where trapped inside the Master Sword.

Inside this place, Link didn't found Zelda in any place, but instead it found a certain fairy who responded at the name of F, F guides Link inside this unknown realm made by the disrtorted records of the Master Sword. Link will now face against the mirages of old evils, as well to against the Phantoms of Ganon who are the physical manifestation of the curse casted by Malghrim.

In gameplay terms, probably one of the most interesing elements is that the whole game is a giant maze, instead of the usual system or botw's open game approach. This turns this Zelda into some sort of 3D Metroidvania a-la Lament of Innocence. The fighting system mantains some elements of what BOTW and TOTK constructed with Link being able to use an array of different weapons and shields, thought it lacks the despised durability system, instead reducing the amount of weapons while also making them more unique to each other asides of stats.

Multiple copies of characters that the reincarnations of Link has met in the past, both those we already known as well to those from adventures unknown for all plays, some of them will help Link directly or indirectly, while others might just hang around, some of them might even turn as obstacles during your path. Thought between them the most important character is Zelda, who was guided in her path by the mirages of her past reincarnations and joining Link around half of the game.

At that point now the adventure changes, Zelda joins you and you can even play with her! She works different to Link since she fights with magic, learning different spells around all the story. The player needs to use both Zelda and Link for the rest of the adventure to get a chance against Malghrim and Ganon.

Like Zelda, Link will also met the mirages of the previous Heroes who wielded the Master Sword, with them he will learn new fighting skills, similar to the Hero's Spirit in Twilight Princess (who he also met). Both Link and Zelda can aslo get their robes, mostly just for nostalgia.

At the end of the game, we met Ganondorf, reverted to his purest state as an entity of pure evil Ganon, the reason of this, is that the Sword also recorded the previous incarnations of Ganon and Malghrim used the Phantoms of Ganon as a way to gather their memories and power to turn his Ganondorf into his strongests self. After a fight with Malghrim, he sacrifices his life to give a final power up to his lord, thus starting the final battle, with this time Link being sucessful and deleting Ganon from the very existence, while Link and Zelda returns to reality. The Master Sword and the Triforce fades away, with the goddess of Hyrule deciding that with the absolute defeat of the evil, there is no need for the hero and the princess, instead gifting them finally a time to rest.

This is just me trying to be overly stupid but I imagine the after credits ending being the descendants of Link and Zelda in a modern world, just as a way to reaffirm this game is supposed to be the end of all (thought ofc the existence of those "records of unknown stories" allowing them to make more games set in the past.

Btw of course F is just Fi.
LEGO The Legend of Zelda
Zelda got a lego set recently, so why not a video game? The game is like any other Lego game like Star Wars, Harry Potter, Batman, etc. Instead of studs in this Lego game, you have rupees as studs to collect like in the Legend of Zelda games used to buy special powers, characters, gold blocks, etc.

Studs = Rupees
Gold Blocks = Golden Triangle Forces
Minikits = Link's Sword

The four stories are Ocarina of Time, Wind Waker, Twilight Princess and Breath of the Wild. There are six levels for each game, like Star Wars.
The Legend of Zelda: Shades of Memory

This game retains the open world gameplay of previous more recent Zelda titles. It is set in a new version of Hyrule. This games focus is on multiplayer, which is done much like invasions from Dark Souls. Players can join your game at special points to help with dungeons and bosses, and can leave clues on how to do puzzles throughout the world. These 'Shades' appear as Shadow Links, taking a similar appearance to the classic foe. You can also set up a memory shade to appear in others games. You can see shades all over the world, making it interactive.

In this game Link can find special Memory Stones, these, these are what the player uses to enter other games. They can also be used in special eras to access past versions of the area, kind of like the Time Travel from OOT but using next gen hardware to activate on the fly, though only in certain moments. This allows the player to piece together the story and use information found in the past to solve puzzles in the present.

A shopkeeper based on the Happy Mask Salesman also appears throughout the world, and Link can trade 'Memory Shards' in order to unlock special items, nincluding unique outfits based on previous Zelda games. These Shards are collected from working with others both with and as Shades.

The plot features a new Link, who sets off on an adventure to stop a mysterious new villain, a masked knight, who is using the Memory Stones to play havoc with time. He will encounter all the usual Zelda races, like Gorons, Zora, etc, and use a Memory Stone to discover their history and solve their issues. Along the way he will also encounter Princess Zelda, who has been charged with protection of one of the Memory Stones, coming under threat from the mysterious knight. They'll also encounter familiar faces, such as Impa, who seem to have knowledge of the stones power.n

In the end, Link gains the Master Sword, and alongside Zelda, faces off with the knight, who is revealed to be a version of Link from a previous cycle, having gone mad. He's been gathering the stones to try and end the cycle, but it is revealed that Ganon has been secretly pulling the strings in order to gain the stones power, and uses them to bring himself back. This leads to a battle where Link has to face off against multiple versions of Ganon from previous Zelda games. Link defeats Ganon with the help of Zelda and the Knight, who sacrifices himself, and the timeline is resorted.
Challenge 5: The Legend of Zelda: Generations of Triforce

in a battle where Link and Ganondorf are fighting while Zelda is captured by Ganondorf, Ganondorf starts to use a power that he never used it, he uses a power where make a mess on the timeline gaining more darkness power, it makes an explosion that both Link and Zelda survives but Ganondorf is corrupted by the darkness and he can comes soon, the whole hyrule got a mix and mess of alternate realities, appearing various characters from the games of the timeline, the gameplay is Zelda 2 based mixed with Metroidvania elements, the game can find various characters from the series and the different incarnations of Link and Zelda
Vote for your top three, don't vote for yourself, voting closes next monday. You are encouraged to discuss your thoughts on the challenge submissions.

Now let's move onto

GAME PITCH CHALLENGE 6:

Pitch a (Non-Mario or Smash) Kart Racer!

The only guideline here is that it can't be a part of the Mario Kart series or a Nintendo crossover, other than that, go wild! Submissions close on monday!

  1. Reflections of the Sword - If the Zelda series were to have any definitive ending, I'd like for it to be this one.
  2. Shades of Memory - While the whole "multiverse storyline" plot has been beaten to death, I think applying it to Zelda makes more sense at this point.
  3. Generations of Triforce - Repeat what I said above, and copy it into this section.
And now, my pitch for the non-Mario/Smash kart racer.

Shonen Jump's Wai Wai Wheels!

With the future of Shonen Jump at stake, I think the time is right to try another crossover game. Plus, Namco does have experience in racing games, going back to the 1980s, if not earlier.

PLOT

To make a long story short, Beerus got bored.

To make a short story long, the Tournament of Power was such a "success" that the God of Destruction decided to up the ante for his next act. He decided to turn the multiverse into one giant racing tournament. But this time, he didn't stop at Akira Toriyama's domain.

During a peaceful barbecue event, Goku and Vegeta get sucked through an orange and purple portal, with Bulma and Piccolo in hot pursuit shortly after.

While searching for Elbaf, Luffy, Sanji, and Zoro (AKA: The Monster Trio) get sucked through a black and white portal, causing the other Straw Hats to get confused.

Meanwhile, during a slow day of teaching students, Izuku Midoriya gets sucked through a wormhole that physically deages him to his teenage self.

During this commotion, Naruto and Boruto get into a petty squabble over ramen toppings, when the two of them and Sasuke get dragged into a portal as well, leaving the villagers to wonder where they are.

And while all this is going on, Taro Sakamoto is cleaning his convenience store when a golden portal appears and takes him to a place beyond his expectations.

When they emerge on the other side, they meet other Shonen Jump characters that faced similar fates like Jotaro Kujo, Anya Forger, and Ichigo Kurosaki. Naturally, Goku believes Beerus when the God of Destruction appears to turn a new leaf, prompting everyone else to face fault.

Will the cast of the Shonen Jump multiverse reign supreme? Will Beerus claim the other worlds for his own? Will their friends arrive to rescue them? All this and more shall be revealed in bite-sized cutscenes.

Pokémon Triathlon: World Tour
A Pokémon racing game where Trainers from across the Pokémon World compete for the title of Pokémon Triathlon Master! Races are divided into three legs, one on land, one on the water, and one in the air. These are all essentially treated as laps, meaning there's no repeated sections.

Each trainer has a team of 3 Pokémon that act as “Karts”, one for each section, that they switch between when they end one leg and start another. Each Pokémon will be able to use one of their moves by charging an attack meter, charged by collecting Rare Candies on the track.

Each of the cups is themed on a different Pokémon region, hence the “World Tour” aspect.

  1. Resurgence of the Zora - A straight sequel to a past game isn't exactly a new concept in this franchise but I think focusing in on a specific plotline in a sort of potential future type idea like this is really neat. The idea of an Atlantis style Hyrule is really cool and I like the changes made
  2. Reflections of the Sword - We've kind of ended up with a few pitches that touch on similar ideas but I do think this is probably the best pitch I've heard for a Zelda game that actually deals with the reincarnation theory ideas.
  3. LEGO The Legend of Zelda - More of a spin off but I do genuinely like this idea and think it would be very fun.

Kingdom Karts: Drifting Dreamworld
Drive through Sora's memories as he tried to reclaim them. Each cup takes you through an abridged retelling of the events a different Kingdom Hearts game, with the bigger games split into two cups. There's also a story mode which features bosses similar to Mario Kart DS. All the usual online multiplayer stuff is there too. Disney content is restricted to tracks, with a few notable exceptions. Also they make it canon somehow.

My votes goes for Shades of Memories, Resurgance of the Zora and the LEGO Zelda game. All very interesing ideas not gonna lie.

Something unrelated but while I was out of comission I did a small drawing of a design for Link, I didn't made it with the idea of my concept but it could work so here it is.
LinkPortrait.png

For the moment I don't have an idea for a racing game but I'll come back later, I still have some things I need to answer first.

The Simpsons Bump & Run

Have been kind of surprised a kart racer hasnt had a focus on colliding with opponents like Burnout. Game will take place primarily on Hovercraft were bumping into anyone or thing will send you flying in an direction.

Despite using the ip & similar name to the cult classic Hit & Run, the game will have a more traditional kart racing structure. However there will be an adventure mode with an open hub world that will require you to get out of your vehicle & do lite platorming to access events & collectibles like Hit & Run or Crash Tag Team Racing.

There will be no boost drifts as the focus will be on hitting the wall at the right angle for you skill / speed boost at turns. Items will be features & a battle mode which will be like an amplified version of Mario Party Bumper Balls.

There will be small story Mr. Teeny being accidently shrunk by Prof. Frink's new shrinking ray & the residence of Springfield racing to impressive & find him for a big reward in locations both as normal & shrunken sized.

Crossover X-ing
(pronounced Crossover Crossing)

Put simply, it’s a roster made entirely of famous fictional cars & racers, with the main gimmick being each of them having special ways to get ahead in the race, special weapons, or both. Has racing elements but also car combat, and you have to balance between both to truly be effective. Crashing into foes is generally good for dealing damage, but you’ll want your weapons + other methods in order to fight while still being able to get ahead.

Racer Roster [at least for now]
  1. Speed Racer
  • Vehicle: the Mach Five
  • Gimmicks: Has all the five extra functions/gadgets from the show. Most useful for this game: buzz saws that do damage at short range, a deflector shield that protects from other weapons, “Auto-Jacks” that allow it to jump extra high above other players, a bird drone that can bother other racers, and a “Frogger Mode” that allows it to race more easily underwater.

  1. Batman & Robin
  • Vehicle: The Batmobile
  • Gimmicks: This will sort of composite various Batmobiles, maybe have alternate “costumes”. More importantly, it has a grappling hook that can latch onto foes and bring the Batmobile to them in short range, Batarangs it can send out for damage, Bat Bombs it can leave behind as traps, and Bat Turbines that boost the Batmobile and send out jets of flames behind it.

  1. Mr. Fantastic & the Fantastic Four
  • Vehicle: The Fantasticar
  • Gimmicks: An always floating vehicle with rocket boosters. The Four also have ways of getting ahead in the race themselves, such as Mr. Fantastic’s stretchy arm grabbing and tossing the driver ahead of him, the Invisible Woman creating force fields that either protect the Four or can be placed on the track to bounce rival drivers back, the Thing simply punching away nearby foes, and the Human Torch shooting fireballs out to damage foes.

  1. Michael Knight (Knight Rider)
  • Vehicle: K.I.T.T.
  • Gimmicks: Another gadget-filled car, KITT has several features like Micro-Jam, which can “hack” and temporarily slow other cars, Turbo-Boost, which allows it to jet forward, a laser protection shield which can also deal damage in short range, laser beams, grappling hooks, and flame throwers, oil slicks left behind to slow drivers, and even systems that allow it to drive on water.

  1. Marty McFly & Doc Brown (Back to the Future)
  • Vehicle: The DeLorean time machine
  • Gimmicks: This car can boost forward and basically teleport, leaving behind trails of fire that deal damage to other foes racing through them. As well, it can also enter a flying mode, which is advantageous for certain terrain, as well.

  1. Winston Zeddmore & the Ghostbusters
  • Vehicle: The Ecto-1
  • Gimmicks: The Ecto-1 can shoot out proton pack beams that stun foes, lay out “ghost traps” that temporarily capture opposing racers driving into them, or let out Slimer to haunt and slime other racers, slowing them down, or even leave trails of slime that do similarly.

  1. BA Baracus & the A*Team
  • Vehicle: 1983 GMC Vandura van
  • Gimmicks: The A*Team’s van has been upgraded in some ways to fit these intense races. The members can simply shoot their guns off from the back, but also, it can now turn into a helicopter, or even an ultimate battle tank, akin to improvised vehicles they made in the show, which is heavily armored and can let out bullets, missiles, and jets of flame.

  1. Maggie Peyton (Herbie: Fully Loaded)
  • Vehicle: Herbie the Love Bug
  • Gimmicks: Herbie can drive around on walls and ceilings, shoot oil slicks and oil sprays, and has a special gimmick of being able to take a lot of damage, but be able to still race under such conditions, being able to function while split in half or become a “lighter vehicle” over time.

  1. Lightning McQueen (Cars)
  • Vehicle: Himself
  • Gimmicks: Lightning has gathered some of the typical weapons, such as oil slicks, missiles, road mines and spike strips that can be left as traps, as well as a defensive option with tires that can activate to be immune to most hazards, as well as boosts that even allow him to jump through the air.

  1. Mad Max
  • Vehicle: The Pursuit Special
  • Gimmicks: Superchargers that can be turned on and off to boost as needed, flames that come out from the car, “Thundersticks” as anti-vehicle projectile spears, and a shotgun blast from Max himself that can really send a racer flying up.

  1. Donatello & the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
  • Vehicle: the Turtle Van
  • Gimmicks: Pizza shooter spinning projectiles, mechanical nunchuck wielding arms that deal further damage up close, a robot transformation that can fly, and a “shell mode” for added defense.

  1. Dominic Torretto (Fast & Furious)
  • Vehicle: 1970 Dodge Charger R/T
  • Gimmicks: Through sheer force of will, Dominic seems able to drive on, around, or over any terrain. He also has a shotgun, much like Mad Max.

  1. Christine
  • Vehicle: Herself
  • Gimmicks: Christine can easily reconstruct itself from damage in-canon. To reflect this, it’ll have some temporary shielding modes that completely reflect all damage back to other racers. As well, it’s a Hellish car, so it can leave behind portals to Hell that temporarily trap and spit out foes.

  1. TRON
  • Vehicle: Light Cycle
  • Gimmicks: The Light Cycle can leave behind trails that deal damage/work as temporary barriers. As well, TRON has a frisbee it can toss at opposing racers. This vehicle also is more light and potentially speedy due to being a motorcycle. Certain in-canon limits are ignored so that it can be more functional in a racing game.

  1. Fred Jones & Mystery Incorporated (Scooby-Doo)
  • Vehicle: The Mystery Machine
  • Gimmicks: The van was never particularly gadget-filled, but is adapted a bit here to be more combat-ready. It has lanterns that can be let out to create fires, ropes that fire out to pull the Mystery Machine further or even latch onto and bring it to other racers, a kitchen which creates sandwiches that can heal the car from damage somehow, and a transformation into the Monstrous Machine, a flying, beastly van that can bite and toss other vehicles.

  1. **** Dastardly & Muttley (Wacky Races)
  • Vehicle: The Mean Machine
  • Gimmicks: Multiple jet boosters, spike traps, a magnet that bring foes ahead to the Mean Machine, oil slicks, a drill/buzzsaw that can be activated on the front of the car, wheels that extend out on the front to block drivers approaching it, a machine gun manned by Muttley that pops out in front, as well as a cannon that can shoot him at other drivers, propellers for flight, and it also can just drive on water.

  1. Fred Flintstone & the Flintstones & Rubbles
  • Vehicle: The Flintmobile
  • Gimmicks: Fred can club foes up close, get airlifted and boosted by a pterodactyl, swim on top of a large prehistoric fish, or send either animal out to mess with rival drivers, throw out a bowling ball that sends foes flying in the air, place a giant dinosaur rib on the track or their car that causes them to topple over,

  1. George Jetson & the Jetsons
  • Vehicle: Capsule Car
  • Gimmicks: Constantly flying vehicle, thrusters for boosts, capsules that send the other family members out flying that can also track and damage foes, laser guns for added quick projectiles, and a treadmill trap it places on the track that sends foes backward. “Jane, stop this crazy thing!”

  1. Bumblebee (Transformers)
  • Vehicle: Himself
  • Gimmicks: He can turn into his robot form and kick or pick up other drivers and toss them away. He also has a sonic blaster for stunning, a laser blaster as a fast projectile, and a heli-pack for flight.

  1. Anakin Skywalker (Star Wars)
  • Vehicle: Podracer
  • Gimmicks: Constantly flying vehicle that is extremely maneuverable, as well as being able to electrocute foes up close. Anakin also has some tricks such as being able to spin to deal multiple hits of damage up close + also working as a specialized boost and dodge, and the ability to use a few latent Force moves, such as pulling itself to foes or flinging them away from a short distance, all with the power of young Anakin’s mind.

  1. Thomas the Tank Engine
  • Vehicle: Himself
  • Gimmicks: I dunno how he does it off the tracks, but he does. Thomas can lay down bits of train tracks as ramps or on the tracks themselves to slow down rival drivers. He also tosses out coal that explodes like a mine, smoke clouds that slow down drivers, and can collect other traps and weapons and carry them as cargo before tossing them out for his own benefit.

  1. James Bond
  • Vehicle: Aston Martin DB5
  • Gimmicks: A lot of typical gadgets and weaponry, such as machine guns, smoke screens, oil slicks, spike traps, missiles, explosives laid out on the track, and the ability to turn invisible!

  1. Rob Zombie [can switch between him and Grandpa Munster (The Munsters) as the drivers]
  • Vehicle: DRAG-U-LA
  • Gimmicks: The spider on the front can now shoot grappling web lines, as well as sticky web traps that can temporarily slow foes. It also has a digging implement that pops out and can toss enemy drivers away, as well as a flamethrower, and a boost that tracks drivers ahead and slams into the back of them.

  1. Vanellope Von Schweetz & Wreck-It Ralph
  • Vehicle: Candy Kart
  • Gimmicks: Vanellope can glitch teleport forward, as well as use numerous items such as a Sugar Rush speed boost, Sweet Seeker twin projectile orbs, Tiramissiles, Cherry Bombs, freezing Ice Cream Cannons, and Sprinkle Spikes. Ralph can also punch or toss rival drivers.

  1. Sonic & Tails (Sonic/Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing)
  • Vehicle: The Tornado
  • Gimmicks: The vehicle can transform from a car to a plane to a boat as suits the terrain, not to mention that Sonic or Tails can jump out and do Homing Attacks/Spin Dashes against foes, depending on who you want to keep as the lead driver.

  1. Hornet (Daytona USA)
  • Vehicle: Itself
  • Gimmick: It seems mostly like an ordinary racecar, however, sometimes, it can get up and fight, running upright on its back wheels while sending its front wheels flying to deal damage to foes at far ranges.

  1. Pac-Man
  • Vehicle: World Rally Kart
  • Gimmick: Pac-Bombs that he can toss at foes to deal damage, Green the most basic, Red homing in on the foe ahead of Pac-Man, Blue targeting first place, and Black being like Green but creating a bigger explosion. As well, has an Atomic Pellet he can eat for speed boosts and a Power Pellet for temporary invincibility + added damage to foes he crashed into. Lastly, a Galaga Ship that shoots at the nearest foes.

  1. Reiko Nagase (Ridge Racer)
  • Vehicle: Kamata Angelus
  • Gimmicks: A car that handles extremely well in drifting, and has nitrous boosters for extra speed. As well, it can grow mechanical “angel wings” for added flight. The only issue is its lack of ranged weaponry, but it makes up for it in being one of the most maneuverable cars in the game.

  1. Crash Bandicoot
  • Vehicle: The Trikee/Yellow Horde/Crikey (Crash Team Racing)
  • Gimmicks: Crash can upgrade over time to larger, stronger vehicles, as well as use items that also upgrade further in effectiveness, such as Tracking Missiles, sometimes even Triple Missiles, explosive crates used as traps, Power Shields that deflect damage, Potions that can be placed to stun and spin foes, Turbo for added boosts, and an occasional Aku Aku mask for temporary invincibility.

  1. Octane (Rocket League)
  • Vehicle: Itself
  • Gimmicks: Octane has a ball it summons that either rolls out immediately to hit foes, or can be hit by Octane to go even further and hit harder. Octane can also jump, boost, and even has some effects it can inflict upon other players, such as temporarily freezing them, making their vehicles difficult to control, tornados that catch and send rival drivers flying away, and temporarily electrifying the track behind it to deal damage to drivers trying to approach.

  1. Spy Hunter
  • Vehicle: G-6155 Interceptor
  • Gimmicks: Machine guns, oil slicks, smoke screens that stun foes, missiles, a boat mode that turns the oil slick into a flamethrower, and a truck that comes along and brings the car inside and repairs it for a bit, trading all the weapons and speed briefly for a vehicle that can take and deal more damage via collisions.

Console Exclusives
  1. Mario & Luigi (Mario/Mario Kart) [Nintendo Exclusive]
  • Vehicle: Red Fire/Green Fire
  • Gimmicks: Mario and Luigi can switch who’s driving on the fly, as well as having the brother in the back toss out projectiles such as Fireballs, Bob-Ombs, Green/Red/Blue Shells, which act like Pac-Man’s Bombs of the same color (go figure), Lightning which can shrink other foes, and Banana Peels, which causes other drivers to spin in place. They also have the Mushrooms, which boost the Kart further.
  • If this counts as making it Mario/Nintendo, sorry, then exclude them, sorry.

  1. Needles Kane (Twisted Metal) [PlayStation Exclusive]
  • Vehicle: Sweet Tooth
  • Gimmicks: Flaming ice cream cone projectiles, remote-detonated flaming clown ball bombs, three clown heads of different colors that magnetize other drivers, shoots nonstop missiles, and shoots flames respectively, and even a flying mecha form that shoots missiles.

  1. Master Chief (Halo) [XBox/PC Exclusive]
  • Vehicle: The Warthog
  • Gimmicks: Mounted turret guns, drift boosts, missile launchers, and an electrifying gauss cannon. Master Chief can also toss out sticky grenades that either latch onto drivers and eventually detonate, or be placed as mines that eventually explode on the track.

Really happy with the Zelda Pitches we got overall, very cool stuff!

And now, let's look at the submissions for the Kart Racer challenge!

KART RACER PITCHES

There's also a story mode which features bosses similar to Mario Kart DS. All the usual online multiplayer stuff is there too. Disney content is restricted to tracks, with a few notable exceptions.

Quite a lot of submissions here! As is standard, both for your top three favorite Pitches, not including your own game.

Discussion is highly encouraged, talk about what you like best about the pitches!

GAME PITCH CHALLENGE 7

Pitch an Atari Platform Fighter!
We've ping ponged from more specific and vague challenges, but now I wanna try out getting really specific, I want you to pitch a platform fighter based on the works of Atari! Why Atari? Well, because it's a weird but not too obscure company. I've seen creates threads for a ton of companies, but I don't think I've seen Atari ever get one, so let's see you make one.

Two notes for this challenge.

1. Guest fighters are 100% okay.
2. You can feel free to pitch this game as if it came out for older or nonexistent hardware. Wanna pitch Atari Smash for the 2600? Go ahead! Wanna imagine Atari got into the wii era's low budget platfighter trend? Sure! Wanna pretend Atari never left the console game, be my guest!

Do whatever floats your boat, as long as it's an Atari Platfighter!

Next update from me should be next Monday, sorry for being so late today.

If anything, I'm shocked my Zelda suggestion got second place. Not that I'm complaining, though.

Kart Racer Votes:
  1. Pokemon Triathlon: World Tour - Quite frankly, applying a mix between Sonic and Sega All-Stars Racing Transformed and the pitch for Donkey Kong Racing to a Pokemon kart racer is an inspired choice. It doesn't hurt the title alone will sell five million units minimum.
  2. Kingdom Karts: Drifting Dreamworld - A Kingdom Hearts racing game, with a thematically-fitting plot to go along with it. Count me in!
  3. The Simpsons Bump & Run - This sounds so unequivocally Simpsons that I gotta give it to them here.
Without further delay, here's my Atari Platfighter pitch.

Atari Fighting League

At the 2025 Summer Game Fest, Atari made the most surprising announcement of the season: They will be throwing their own hat into the ring of platform fighters...albeit a while after Nick and WB had their chances in the sun.

They announced that this game will have 20 characters and 15 stages in the base game, spanning their entire history from 1972 and beyond.

The look and feel of the game would basically amount to "8-bit Smash Bros.", where you fight on top of strewn-about platforms while knocking the stuffing out of each other in a 4-player free-4-all.

Fighters:
1: Bentley Bear (Crystal Castles)
2: Paperboy (...)
3: Oliver the Elf (Centipede)
4: Commander Champion (Atari Force)
5: Emi Kimura (Yars Rising)
6: Tarra (SwordQuest)
7: Torr (SwordQuest; clone fighter of Tarra)
8: Charley Chuck (Food Fight)
9: Pitfall Harry (Pitfall!)
10: Pac-Man (...)
11: Adventure Square (...)
12: Peter Pack Rat (...)
13: Ostrich Knight (Joust)
14: Thyra (Gauntlet)
15: Sauron (Primal Rage)
16: Katy Kangaroo (Kangaroo)
17: Glover (...)
18: Mr. Run and Jump (...)
19: E.T. (...)
20: Bubsy the Bobcat (...)

Stages:
1: Atari Medley (Pong/Breakout/Canyon Bomber/Asteroids)
2: Paperboy Street
3: Centipede
4: Yar's Revenge
5: The Jungle (Pitfall!)
6: Tempest
7: Joust
8: Rampage
9: Pac-Maze 2600
10: Crystal Castles
11: Toobin'
12: Frogger
13: Q*Boxes (Q*Bert)
14: Roller Coaster Tycoon
15: Chuck E.'s Concert (Chuck E. Cheese)

Voting;
  1. Crossover X-ing - I think while it's an obvious mishmash of all kinds of things, the actual idea here is incredibly solid, with different character abilities and whatnot. Am I slightly biased because TRON's included? Maybe.
  2. Pokemon Triathalon - A really unique way of handling Pokemon in a racer like that.
  3. The Simpsons: Bump & Run - Really cool idea with a very "Simpsons" feel to it. A focus on collisions feels really fresh!
Submission; Never let it be said that Atari is anything but an absolute mess to try and figure out. At any time, it seems as though the name is shared by about four different companies - and that's not entirely inaccurate, either. However, I think there's a unique opportunity in a particular period of history to mess around with something fun, taking inspiration from what would later go on over at Nickelodeon.

Here's the setup. The year is 2004, and Atari is - as usual - in a bit of a mess. However, Atari SA - who, at the time, held a lot of Atari licenses on top of stuff from Accolade and remnants of Infogrames - are in November of that year, planning to release their first Atari Flashback... continuing a focus on nostalgia on top of new developments with the brand they'd recently bought back from Hasbro. So... a little cross-promotion can't hurt, can it?

Thus; a Flash browser-game platfighter is developed, named Atari Flashback Wars. It's a fairly simplistic deal, intended to (somewhat) ape the success of Super Smash Bros. in concept, but also as a fairly tightly-developed cross-promotion for the upcoming Flashback - which wasn't an uncommon practice at the time, given the number of driving games released on Flash that were just straight up cross-promotion for a new car brand. Note that, despite being marketed with the "Atari" brand, a lot of iconic Atari stuff just... won't be here - companies like Atari Games still being owned by Warner Bros. would prevent that. Oh well.
Pared down significantly compared to Melee, Flashback Wars features simplistic mechanics more similar to Smash 64 in nature; no side specials, no ledge-grabs, no grabs or shields, but three buttons - normal, special, and assist. Unlike the Smash series, it relies on typical healthbars that are drained, but they are entirely drained if you "ring out" by falling off the platform you're on.
The visuals of the game would be... to put it politely, ugly, and something of a mishmash. Fighters would be represented with 2D sprites captured from 3D renders, not dissimilar to Nickelodeon Super Brawl that'd release five years later; while a lot of stages would use original assets such as sprites from their source material, in keeping with the Flashback theme.
There's not going to be too many fighters this time around, mostly because I don't think the file size would work too well with it. Note that the interest in keeping 3D renders as the art style will limit this even further. However, while the game launches with seven whole fighters (wow!), an eighth is added in a later update.
  1. Centipede (Centipede) - Based on the 1998 remake. Centipede's made up of three segments, but as you deal damage to it, the lower segments are lost. Given its whole gimmick is attacking as many times as it has segments each time, it makes it difficult to recover from losses.
  2. Demon (Tempest 2000) - Based on the box art for Tempest 2000 for the Jaguar, rather than actual gameplay elements from within the game. He's somewhat of a heavyweight summoner, and can fire different attacks and enemies featured in Tempest 2000 out as attacks.
  3. Glover (Glover) - Included as a "more recent" pick from Hasbro Interactive's library, Glover's based mostly on being atop his ball, though he can flick it away to act as a projectile while losing a lot of his attacks until he can go and recover it.
  4. Biker (Big Air Freestyle) - Another more "recent" pick intended to crosspromote some of Atari's newer sports titles, selected mostly because it was easier for the developers to think of a moveset for a motocross biker than a snowboarder. Very mobile, but can get knocked over by hard attacks.
  5. Pajama Sam (Pajama Sam) - A simpler character included to appeal somewhat to a younger audience, utilising the recently-acquired Humongous catalogue. He's by far the most powerful character in the game.
  6. Duellist (Magic: The Gathering - Battlegrounds) - A licensed character intended as crosspromotion for Atari's current holding of a number of Hasbro-owned licenses. However, the lack of licensing for a named character resulted in a generic "Duellist" being the selected representative. They attack exclusively with magical attacks, with no physical ones whatsoever. Notably, Duellist's inclusion meant the game would be removed in 2006.
  7. Paddle (Pong: The Next Level) - A secret fighter pulled directly from The Next Level's designs and the like. Has the unique ability to reflect any projectiles that hit it, but can still be damaged by physical attacks. Can only be unlocked by completing Arcade Mode.
  8. Goku (Dragon Ball Z: Supersonic Warriors) - A second licensed character included as cross-promotion for Atari's release of various Dragon Ball games, primarily on the GBA hardware. Goku's appearance is pulled directly from the sprites used in this game, lending to him very obviously clashing with the other characters in terms of visual style. Goku was only present in the game for a few months, at which point he was removed for licensing reasons.
Assists in Flashback Wars are featured as their original sprites, pulled right from the "classics" they originate from. Obviously, the vast majority of these Assists are pulled from the 20 games released on the first Atari Flashback, and they're activated with the Assist button. You can call upon an Assist up to three times in a game, not just a round. Oh, and while there's ostensibly 20 assists total, six of them are just clones of six others.
  1. Yorgle (Adventure) - Opens its jaw and eats a nearby opponent, instantly draining their entire healthbar. I never said this game would be balanced.
  2. Bomber Plane (Air-Sea Battle) - Flies from overhead and drops a bomb downward, which explodes on contact with an opponent or the ground.
  3. Battle Tank (Battlezone) - Slowly moves forward to run an opponent over. It then fires forward a pellet that explodes on contact.
  4. Wall (Breakout) - A multi-coloured wall is built in front of you, which blocks attacks and opponents from running through it. Attacking it breaks a few of the blocks in the wall, however.
  5. Biplane (Canyon Bomber) - Works exactly like the Bomber Plane, just with a different sprite. It also moves slightly faster.
  6. Bentley Bear (Crystal Castles) - Tosses forward a crystal that bounds along the ground, like one of Mario's fireballs. It's almost pathetically weak.
  7. Spaceship (Gravitar) - Launches upward above you, spins around, and fires a few pellets downward toward your opponent.
  8. Ghost (Haunted House) - Appears behind you when activated. If doing so while being attacked, it OHKO's your opponent as a sort of counter.
  9. Millipede (Millipede) - Charges forward and multi-hits an opponent in the process by running right through them.
  10. Hotot (Saboteur) - Steps in front of you and fires a pellet forward. It stuns an opponent on hit.
  11. Sky Diver (Sky Diver) - Plummets from the sky above you to land in front of you with its chute opened. There's a 1-in-4 chance that he won't open his chute, dealing more damage and landing much faster.
  12. Blockader (Solaris) - Essentially a minefield that's placed in front of you. If your opponent enters it, it explodes. It won't explode if you enter it, though.
  13. Sprint Master (Sprintmaster) - A small car that charges forward along the ground, knocking over enemies it hits.
  14. Fort (Warlords) - Works exactly like the Wall, but as an L-shape rather than just a straight up wall.
  15. Neutral Zone (Yars Revenge) - A field formed in front of you that heals you when stood within it, but you can't attack while inside it. It doesn't heal enemies, but the same inability to attack applies to your enemies.
  16. Cosmic Craft (Asteroids) - Works exactly like the Spaceship. Based on its 7800 appearance.
  17. Centipede (Centipede) - Works exactly like Millipede, albeit with more body-segments. Based on its 7800 appearance.
  18. Mini Sphinx (Desert Falcon) - Works exactly like Hotot, but fires a larger pellet. Based on its 7800 appearance.
  19. Charley Chuck (Food Fight) - Works exactly like Yorgle, but with more range. Based on his 7800 appearance.
  20. Cloaking Capsule (Planet Smashers) - Turns your character invisible for around 20 seconds, with opponents not being able to see you. You also can't see yourself, so it kind of evens out. Based on its 7800 appearance.
Note that each and every Assist is represented with sprites from their 2600 release, excluding the last five, which are represented with sprites from their 7800 release. Games with original arcade variants are not excluded from this, mainly to crosspromote the Flashback.
As with other elements, the stages included are a slightly messy hodgepodge of different elements. There's only three stages, which are selected at random at the start of a match.
  1. Anniversary Arcade (Atari Anniversary Edition) - A stage taking place in front of the various arcade cabinets shown in Anniversary Edition, implied to be within the physical arcade that the compilation takes place within. Advertising for the Flashback is plastered everywhere within.
  2. Castle Never (Neverwinter Nights) - A licensed stage pulling from Neverwinter Nights, a Dungeons & Dragons adaptation. It's a very simplistic stage taking place on an ornate bridge, with a still image of Castle Never in the background pulled directly from a Forgotten Realms work.
  3. Breakout (Breakout) - A secret stage taking place atop a game of Breakout. As the game progresses, the paddle at the bottom of play will continue to remove segments of the stage you're stood atop. Notably, there's an overlay on this stage to make it appear more like it's being played on an era-appropriate television, though the graphics within are pulled from the 2600 game rather than the arcade original. Can only be unlocked by completing Arcade Mode.
Might seem a bit... strange, at a glance, but I think this is at least an interesting take on something that could semi-plausibly have occurred. Or not. Who knows.

1 Kingdom Karts - Normally just hear about Disney as a whole or Chocobo GP for kart racers. Think this is a clever idea with good potential.
2 Crossover X-ing - Alot of detail & great ideas. Only thing holding it back for me is it is the one that i cant imagine ever happening unfortunately due to all the licensing.
3 Pokemon Triathlon - Surprised Pokemon never tried a kart racer. Think this idea has a fun twist that would fit series well.

  1. Shonen Jump's Wai Wai Wheels - Pretty fun idea for another SJ crossover and the idea of framing it around the tournament of power is really clever. Wish we got a little more series variety but the roster we did get is really solid.
  2. Pokémon Triathlon: World Tour - Pokemon is long overdue for a proper racing game and this is an extremely interesting way to do it.
  3. Kirby Kart Ride - Always down for more air ride even if this isn't quite air ride.
Atari Attackers
Launched in 2022 as part of their 50th Anniversary. Is a smash-like but with a very simplified control scheme, being easy to pick up and learn. Would be released as a smaller mid-budget title. The games main gimmick would be the ability to swap between the games main animated artstyle and a retro sprite based style. Mainly focused on multiplayer but with a basic arcade mode. You can also unlock the orginal games. The idea is to reintroduce these characters to a new audience as to test interest for possible relaunches. Focuses on characters they actually own, but with two notable guests.

Roster
  1. Bounty Bob (Miner 2049)
  2. Centipede (Centipede)
  3. Charley Chuck (Food Fight)
  4. Jailbird (Breakout)
  5. Red Baron (Red Baron)
  6. Scraps (Scrapyard Dog)
  7. Major Havoc (Major Havoc)
  8. Ninja (Ninja Golf)
  9. Tarra \ Torr (Swordquest)
  10. Evil Otto (Berzerk)
  11. Yar (Yars' Revenge)

  18. Pitfall Harry (Pitfall) - Guest from Activision
  19. Bubsy (Bubsy) - Released as free DLC a year later when Atari gets the rights.
Stages
Stages are mostly pretty simple. There would be several based on the properties already in the game but also a few others, including Pong, Asteroids, Missile Command and general "Atari Sports Arena" and "Atari Raceway" stages that combine a few games together.
