you know what's weird, I just noticed that only people who joined in 2006 (like myself) and 2008(obviously) are the one's posting the most (espicially this thread for example) and I wonder, where are most of the 2007 posters?

Well, a few years ago, I remember reading an article in Nintendo Power about cool stuff in Melee. Pretty basic stuff in there...except...wavedashing. I saw that, and was thinking...whoa, what?

Some time passed, and I still didn't know what the heck it was. I finally just googled it, and it came up with some videos on youtube. I watched them, and was amazed at how fast the people were moving! I made it my mission to learn all these things. (I did, and my brothers and friends refused to play me. I mained Falco)

So, about a week after Brawl, I naturally wanted to bring my Brawl playstyle to an advanced level. I googled "Brawl advanced strategies" and came up with this site. I just printed about ten pages and read it all, but I soon realized that by simply joining the site I was printing stuff of, it'd be much better. So...here I am.

Besides posting "Who uses Yoshi anyways" in the Yoshi forum, its been great here.
(Don't worry, I apoligized/said I don't want to argue, and gave them reasons to as why I said that)

I hope you veteran smashers don't mind all us people joining. The way I see it, just more people to play and get better from. And I make intellegent, well thought out posts. (For the most part)

As I look around the boards nowadays it seems now as if the VAST majority of posters are those who joined in 2008.

I know this is most likely because of Brawl's release, but I'm still curious:

-
What brought all you 2008 posters to Smashboards?

How did all you guys find out about SWF?
-

Tell your story
I've lurked since 2007 when I started to try and get serious about Melee.

Finally made an account in March.

i had read the boards since 2005 but only now i decided to make an account.
I have a second myself account from 2005 (2003? 2004?)... but I had forgotten the password and username, or that I even had one until I had already established this as my current identity. Oh well.
Ive read the boards since 2006 but only recently decided to join.
I used to lurk around here through 2006, but didn't really do much past early 2007 as far as reading here went. In January I got annoyed without being able to talk because I stated seeing topics I felt like actually posting in so I finally registered. I then let my account fall into disuse for a while again and right now am posting quite a bit since it's summer and I have the free time to do so.
It's actually because I forgot my password and made a new account...
I knew about this website since 11/07 and I made a account here during that time but I forgot the name and password so I made a new account so it can help me with tournament then when I went to that tourney I was beaten badly
I've been using Smashboards as a resource since '06, but didn't join til this year.
I used to have an old account, but since then I've forgotten my password, and gotten a new e-mail address, so I just created a new account.
For myself, March of 06', 2 days after my Birthday (St. Patricks Day). Favorite thread: Funny Melee Pics (they had these, and can still remember when it started the huge fad of Brawl pics)
I've lurked since 2007 when I started to try and get serious about Melee.

I became interested in competitive smash in december last year and lurked around here until around when brawl came out. I would have started attending tournaments but I had no chance due to the years in skill difference between me and current competitive smashers and I viewed brawl as a chance for everyone to start over. It was an ideal launching point for me to start in the competitive scene. So I registered and started attending tournaments and here I am.
I felt it should be known that Scala is a scrub :D

Also, 2008 members are very welcome at SWF. Although a few members may annoyingly point at other people's join dates in order to invalidate their arguments, I'm pretty sure the rest of the community is pretty welcoming. Don't forget, SWF is a big place, and there are plenty of different boards and resources at your disposal ^_^

Read the forums. Liked the forums. Signed on to the forums in hopes of intelligent Smash discussion and since I found a topic I felt like posting in.

No "Oh it says 2008 but I'm actually here since the dawn of time stuff". The join date is Feb 2008, ergo I am a member of the community since February 2008.

As mentioned, all the new posters have probably resulted from brawls release. I always like more people. As long as you think before you post, im fine with you.

Well on that note I hate you all.

What?

You know, something bothers me about this place though, something I didn't notice until like a couple of months ago.

Why. WHY are there so many people who don't get jokes? even blatantly obvious jokes like a fake tier list?

During the time I was into Melee, I got all my information elsewhere. There were a few places, but when Brawl came out I figured I'd be best "upgrading" to get my info from a bigger place with a good history of providing reliable information, and thus, here I am.

No offense to those whom it might concern, but who the heck lurks a forums for years without even makin an account, anyway? Who lurks for 1+, 2+ or, as some have claimed, even 3+ or 4+ years? What could you possibly have been doing for that long reading the forum and not replying to anything, ever?

I mean, I can understand making an account, writing a few posts and then leaving and then coming back and starting a new account and/or resuming your 4 yearold account with only 6 posts. But lurking for several years?

I think most joined during the pre release hype, character speculation and all that jazz. Then when Brawl was released they dissapeared.

Or they just avoid General Brawl Discussion.

Didn't join just because of Brawl... been playing since the N64 version, was too young and stupid back then to know about forums, knew about this forum ages ago, didn't feel like the posting type sort but ye I came to this forum for extra information on characters etc. But do you like hate all the 2008 forum users or something? Because normally people would rather welcome them than complaining.

Was gonna use allisbrawl at first but then my friend monrone told me about smashboards so I joined. It had alot of info about brawl and people were showing their combo vids in the section and it helped me understand alot of how the characters do their moves before I got brawl *I decided to wait for the uk release >_>*. There was alot of information on the section and it seemed like an okay community and funny at the same time so I joined up =p.

I've known about this place for a while but just didn't care enough to join. I used to think it was just a stuck up community of people who had nothing better to do than sit around and talk about a videogame that they probably weren't even that great at. Then I started to go to a lot of tournaments and it got discussed more and more as melee tourneys became more prominent. That was around... IDK 2006 or so. Anyway, I decided to join with the onset of Brawl since I figured that the community would be well prepared in the competitive sense for the release.

Are you asking me? If so, absolutely not.

I'm genuinely curious about all your stories.

Let's just say I didn't know there was such a huge smash community on the net. I browsed the forum for 252345324667 months before registering.
edit : okay, not that long, maybe 3 months. The reason I didn't register was because:
a) I usually don't register if all the sections are available
b) So much to read! I mostly read melee strategy guides, then I switched to brawl guides and videos.

I've known about Smash boards for about two years or so but I only used it for guides to a few characters like Falco and Roy(probably longer but I did not use it for anything till about then). Never felt like getting an account till recently because I had nothing to add nor do I post a lot. With Brawl's release and me wanting to improve and become more competitive, it felt like a good time.

I found out about this awesome site around the summer of 2007. I made a account then (Chris7x) but then I made this one instead for identity reasons. I stumbled on it by accident when I saw someone post a Eggz video on a different forum, which led to a Phanna video that had the link to swf in the description. Pretty weird, huh?

I've known about this website for such a long time, about 2003. Back when Melee was THE game. Never bothered to come on, because meh... I figured I don't need tips to beat level 9 CPU's. I have no friends. :( Lolz, JK JK. Anyways, when Brawl came out, I got tired of playing with anyone and putting up with the constant problems. I went here, made an account, and it's been working for me ever since. No more laggy-ness. No more being KOed with someone who just uses Ike for his power. No more insecurities! Epic FAIL. Yeah, that's my story.

I read these forums since last year. It wasn't until a few months ago that I made an account because I wanted to reply to someone that had a question.

I came here because I actually decided to take smash bros seriously. I watched those advanced how to play videos by wak shortly before joining here. Those videos got me all excited for Brawl and encouraged me to play competitively.

Thank God for that! ^_^

It's true, we do have a lot of new members for 2008!

But I have nothing really to add as I joined in 2003. =P

Actually I've heard of this place when all the AT's in melee were still in their infancy
I read an article in NP about these smash websites

I wasn't really interested back then, but I have some difficulties trying to pass time so I guess I come here to see whats going on.

I was reading up on one of the Smash Bros. guides, and I read about this site. That's when I decided to check it out, and I was impressed with the knowledge that was being spread around after creating an account. It passes the time, I'll tell you that.

I lurked here for a while getting information on Brawl and Melee. I saw a lot of the debates and just couldn't help myself so I joined.

I think I found this place from a wikipedia article.
