It only tells how to unlock 2 characters, 2 stages and the parts for Stage Builder.

Captain Falcon: Successfully complete Classic mode in under twenty minutes, then defeat Captain Falcon in the bonus match. Alternately, play 70 VS. mode matches.

Falco: Successfully complete the 100-man Brawl. Alternately, play 50 VS. mode matches.

Ganondorf: Successfully complete Classic mode on the Hard difficulty with Link or Zelda. Alternately, play 200 VS. mode matches.

Jigglypuff: Successfully complete Classic mode with any character except Ike. Alternately, successfully complete Event Match #20 or play 350 VS. mode matches.

Lucario: Defeat Lucario in the Subspace Emissary (Adventure mode) with Meta Knight. Alternately, successfully complete five Target Tests or play 100 VS. mode matches.

Luigi: Successfully complete Classic mode on the Easy difficulty. Alternately, play 22 VS. mode matches.

Marth: Successfully complete Classic mode. Alternately, play 10 Brawls or defeat Marth in the Subspace Emissary (Adventure mode).

Mr. Game & Watch: Successfully complete Classic mode with all characters. Alternately, play 250 VS. mode matches.

Ness: Play 5 VS. mode matches. Alternately, reflect ten projectiles or defeat Ness in the Subspace Emissary (Adventure mode).

R.O.B. the robot: Play 160 VS. mode matches.

Snake: Play fifteen matches on Shadow Moses Island. Alternately, play 130 VS. mode matches.

Sonic: Successfully complete the Subspace Emissary (Adventure mode). Alternately, play 300 VS. mode matches.

Toon Link: Successfully complete Cassic mode with Link. Alternately, play 400 VS. mode matches.

Wolf O'Donnell: Successfully complete the Subspace Emissary (Adventure mode), then complete Boss Battle mode with Fox. Defeat Wolf after he challenges you to unlock him. Alternately, play 450 VS. mode matches, then defeat Wolf after he challenges you. Another method is to complete the Subspace Emissary, then go to the ruins to encounter and defeat Wolf.

I think this is right.

The only discrepancy I've seen is with Toon Link. You get him by beating Classic Mode on any difficulty with Link, but most fail to mention that you CANNOT use a continue. I've gotten all the characters unlock finally!

1. Everyone can be unlocked in Subspace Emissary. Exceptions are, Toon Link/Jigglypuff/Wolf require you to complete it and go back.

2. Everyone can be unlocked in Vs. Mode:
Ness - 5 matches
Marth - 10 matches
Luigi - 22 matches
Falco - 50 matches
Captain Falcon - 70 matches
Lucario - 100 matches
Snake - 130 matches
R.O.B. - 160 matches
Ganondorf - 200 matches
Mr. Game & Watch - 250 matches
Sonic - 300 matches
Jigglypuff - 350
Toon Link - 400 matches
Wolf - 450 matches

3. Everyone can be unlocked a random way:
Ness - Reflect 10 projectiles.
Marth - Complete Classic Mode.
Luigi - Complete Classic Mode on Easy.
Falco - Complete 100-Man Brawl.
Captain Falcon - Complete Classic Mode in under 20 minutes.
Lucario - Complete all 5 levels of Target Smash!
Snake - Play 15 matches on Shadow Moses Island.
R.O.B. - ???
Ganondorf - Complete Classic Mode on Hard as Link or Zelda (no continues?)
Mr. Game & Watch - Complete Classic Mode as all characters.
Sonic - Complete Classic Mode as 10 characters.
Jigglypuff - ???
Toon Link - Complete Classic Mode as Link (No Continues; After Subspace?)
Wolf - Complete Boss Rush Mode as Fox (After Subspace)

Not in Classic.

only from SSE, and after finishing
