Let's make a thread where we speculate historical events or changes you see incoming for Melee - the meta, the characters, the players, the tournaments, etc

I'll start off with a big one -

I think M2K might put Melee on the back burner for a while and focus on Smash 4 because of hand complications. M2K is obviously still a threat in Melee even with the circumstances, but it would be cool to see him dethrone Zero in Smash 4. I think it would be 100% possible if he put more time into that game, I don't like seeing him not at 100% in Melee. I'm not really a fan of Smash 4 either but Zero is due for an upset perhaps it has to be M2K (maybe even at PAX?).

Falco is going to rise to the top in the coming years, Armada, Leffen, and PPMD will be the top 3, and Plup will be the one to make it top 4, along with Axe.

1. PPMD
2. Plup

Paragon will become the largest tournament series.

Marth or sheik will never surpass fox but will see advancement in both their metas for spacies matchups (mostly neutral but punish game also) and see more representation (at all levels), as a byproduct of spacies popularity. Other characters will see advancement but not as many top placings.

Life for mid tiers will get even harder. It will be harder on everyone. But the diversity (character-wise) in results will hold somewhat steady. As the line between making it out of round 1 pools and making it to top 8 gets thinner, it'll be very demanding of players to place consistently, and at this point a great deal of players have a firm grasp on the important matchups.

It will finally be accepted that the God Era has ended as the top 10-12 start to look more like their own tier.

Captain Falcon will win a national respectable in size.

Chillin will get a rematch against Leffen, he will get 5-1'd, then we'll all rejoyce that Chillin finally took a game off of Leffen.

Chillin is going to retire within a couple years and pursue a life of SMS any% runs.
Pika (and maybe Samus) will rival Falcon on tier lists.
People are going to be influenced by Amsa, so Yoshis may become a bit more common.

I predict that players will start shield stopping, pivoting out of dash dance, and just generally walking/standing still in neutral more. (So basically a more careful neutral)

Also people will get noticeably better at power shielding projectiles.

Also, for some reason I have the gut feeling that there will be some new tech discovered that will allow you to break out of wobbling, perhaps you have to input a counter rhythm or some input of buttons no one figured out yet.

It might even be only certain characters that can break free....

I think Mew2King could be 3nd behind Armada and Mang0 if a) he gets his hand fixed and b) he starts playing consistently. As we saw yesterday with the 6-0, he's better than Leffen when his hand isn't hurting and the crowd is cheering for him. Before he started having hand problems, the only time he'd ever lost to Leffen was Apex. I think plup has a lot of potential, but I don't know if I could ever see him becoming a god. The only gods he's beaten have been Mang0 and Leffen, and he's only beaten Leffen with his Samus. Hbox looked awesome at Evo, but I still think he's behind Mang0, Armada, and Mew2king. PPMD is still great, but I suspect he'sgoing to deteriorate unless he becomes more active. For now, the top 6 look much more dominant than anyone else. Armada and Leffen look like they'll be around the longest. Mang0 said he's only got about 2 years left in him. Hbox is getting a job that'll require lots of time. Jason needs to take a break and get his hand figured out or else he'sgoing to be forced into retirement. PPMD may become less and less active until he vanishes. Anyway, just my predictions, no idea how accurate they may be.

Good Lord ppl judge so much from one tournament, lmao.
Right? What's funny is I know people who said Leffen wasn't good after he won Beast V, or his victory over Mango at Apex didn't count because Mango played poorly and more, but now they see m2k destroy Leffen so they say he is better than Leffen. Really? Does no one care that Leffen 6-1'd m2k at SmashCon, or anything else that has happened this year for that matter?

Sometimes the tournament sets are like 6 out of 100 serious matches the two players may have played that day. Forget what happened in those 94 other matches! Lol.

Considering M2K was in grueling pain after a whole day of playing melee doubles and singles, I'd say he wasn't playing his best at smashcon. When he didn't hurt at all, despite not practicing melee much at all in months, he 6-0'd Leffen. I think once his hand fully heals and he gets back to practicing, he'll be leaps and bounds ahead of Leffen.

Do you think Leffen was at his best shape last weekend even though he has gone to like 15 tournaments in a row with little to no resting time? Jesus people are ridiculous

-Armada will be the undisputed best player in 2016. No contest. He will lose virtually no games.
-Mew2King will retire from Melee in 2016.
-Wizzy will start his rise to being a god. He will start taking games off of some gods.
-Hungry box will still be prominent in 2016 but not as much. He will be fading away from Melee
-I predict the rise of a good jigglypuff player who is actually comparable with hungrybox. Also the rise of Yoshi players who are slightly comparable with amsa.
-Axe will upset and do very well in a tournament and switch to falco.
-The amount of Sheiks will drastically increase in 2016
- The way peach players play will start to change and sway away from armada's style.
-Young links will be more common in tournament.
- A Kirby player will do well in tournament and raise awareness of Kirby
-Counterpicking wars are going to get veerrrry common
-The way amsa plays is going to change significantly
-Pikachu is going to drop in the tier list
-The diversity of characters commonly doing well in tournament will drop significantly but the amount of low tier heroes will increase significantly. There will be more players pushing the lower tier meta

Why do you think Young Link will become more popular?

Has the most potential of the current low tiers.

Frame data is where I'm getting that from.

Where are you getting that from? I haven't heard anything about it

Well if you think so I guess, I like Young Link but I don't think anyone has given him any recent pushes so I was hoping something had just flown under my radar. Personally I kinda doubt he'll do any better

Relax. This isn't the Illuminati
That's where you are wrong. In future years Chillindude will reveal that everything that happens in Melee including the 5-0 was directed by him and top level members of his Chilluminati. You just wait.
