I've been wondering. Out of everyone's mains, who do you fin yourself spiking with most? Who do you find has the best/most useless spike in the game. Rate any character you like in term of their spike. I myself tend to use Ganon's, but end up missing because of the lag between moves. I'm also looking for helpful advice here, because spiking is just fun to do:)

Heh, this is my first post here. I've been lurking without an account for quite awhile.
This might be better suited for the tactical discussion, but I find myself using Charizard's and Marth's spikes the most.

A list of all of them is here.

Snakes Fair is probably the deadliest if it hits, but it does have a fair amount of startup lag. Same with Ivysaur's, but it seems like suicide to try to pull it off, as if it misses, Ivysaur can get easily gimped.

I just set up my account today, Rhykune. I hated not having an accout lol
I can never seem to achieve falco's spike. Does anyone here agree that ganon's is the best in the game? in m experience, that's how it's been. Donkey Kong's it just fun thoug. It's quick, powerful, and with no unwanted side affects. Oh, and I consider shiek's, sonic's, or zss's spike to be the worst.

Falco's is very easy to hit, you just have to sweetspot it. Ganondorf's is one of the strongest spikes but not easy to hit with. But I don't use Ganon much so if I can't really tell. Yeah Sonic, Sheik, and ZSS's are pretty bad.

Ganon's feels like the strongest spike, and I play him sometimes so I spike with Ganon usually. On occasion I can spike with Charizard's dair, especially if they aren't expecting it. The other two characters I use (Wario and Metaknight) don't have spikes anyways.

most useless: King Dedede's up B
Best: Lucas's Bair (it can hook people under the stage!)

Ganon's is my favorite one to use, but it is slow so it is kind of hard to hit. but good thing is if you spike them with Dair it is a guar. kill.

but, i use falco's spike a lot more. CG > Dair spike is easy to pull off and i do it often.

The person I spike with most often is Kirby.

A very weak spike, but when you Inhale, jump off the stage, shoot them out, than Dair them to death, the fact it's a weak spike never comes into play.

Oh, and Charizard and Lucas spike pretty well too.

I forgot to mention samus. Although she got nerfed from melee to brawl, a terrific spike followed by a highly offensive up B can cover most situations, especially if the spike doesn't work.

Character I spike with the most is Ness. His dair is STILL amazing.

And I absolutely LOATHE trying to dair sweetspot someone with Marth only to have them air dodge or something and make me fall to my death XD I'll usually only try and go for an offstage spike if I have more than one life and they're on their last...but it's still a pain to see yourself slowly fall off stage XD

Thats why you should jump right before using it.

Edit: Characters I spike best with are Marth and Samus (2 of my favorite characters).

Also Ice climbers can spike if you grab your opponent at the edge of the stage. A very easy victory most of the time.

best spike : Ike!
almost-die-spike: marth,wolf
love-hate spike: TL <-- i have lost way too many games by this
I agree with the Almost die section. As a Marth/Wolf main, I find myself hesitant to go for the spike and instead will probably go Fair off the Edge with Marth or Bair with Wolf simply because the spikes are so dangerous to both players.

Marth's Spike is conditional. There are times to use it and times not to. Using it when you have no more jumps left is ridiculous, so an opponent high up in the air would be silly to attempt to spike, but anybody below the level is spike-able.

Are you guys frickin' kiddin me?

Ness has the best spike by far.

He can kill nearly every body at below 10% with his spike.

I know, but nobody plays ness apparently.
:(

they're afraid marth is going show up and infinite them! =O

To all those who said Shiek's meteor is one of the worst.. you'd be right, she doesn't have one -.-'

Ness.. yeah. It has to be Ness. PK fire- DJ- Spike.. priceless.

The raw power of the spike combined with Ness' extended DJ is a force to be reckoned with.

Honourable mentions go to IC's. Grab.. Grab.. GRABGRABGRAB Spike.
Argh. It happened again ;_;

The person I spike most often with is Ness. The d-air is beast.

However, recently I've started spiking more with Captain Falcon. Not with his d-air, but with his forward+b (Falcon-spiking, that is). I cannot count the times I've spiked with that in the past couple days when I decided to main him as my third character.

In fact, in one of my first matches with him we were playing a three person free for all. I was fighting my friend Ron and all of a sudden I falcon-spiked him. I flipped as I've only done that in Melee once (then again I didn't use Falcon in Melee which is probably why). I turned to our other friend, Francis, and asked "Did you see that? I just Falcon-spiked him!!" He responds, "No, I didn't. What is that?" "Here, I'll show you." And then I went and Falcon-spiked Francis on command.

It was pretty hardcore. I almost never call my spikes, and if I do, I hardly ever make them. Two spikes in a row from above the stage. Pretty sweet if you ask me.

Wolf's d-air is the spike I use the most. Lucas' b-air spike is awesome though, probably my favorite when I pull it off.

I like Lucas spikes. For some reason, it's more satisfying than anyone else's... Well maybe not Ness's d-air... I've heard a lot of complaining about how hard it is to spike with Lucas, and I have not encountered many problems... what's the deal with that?
Anyone know?
you know, I love Using Lucas, but can never seem to achieve his spike. PK freeazing someone to death is my cheap kill move.

i am the lurker i live in your fourms
i dunno, i guess im crazy but i love getting it with D3's ^b

its just too awesome when you ^b, they jump just barely past the lip of the stage to try and edgeguard you, and you start coming down and spike them to their shameful death.
it makes me feel warm and fuzzy on the inside

I main Lucas, but his bair is hard to sweetspot and dair is rather pathetic as far as spikes go. I have a better success rate with Olimar. Dedede is LOL for spiking. Well, you could suicide with his super jump, but...

let's examine my mains:

sheik: um... does she even HAVE a spike >_>?

jigglypuff: i think s/he lost his only spike...

zelda: cool, but really hard to pull off, and really hard to recover after using it.

zamus: REALLY fulfilling to spike w/ upb. cool to do it with flip kick and lame to do dair... and really hard to pull off. REALLY HARD.

falco: not hard to pull off, but i never use em. i'm so terrified of having to recover with fire bird that i avoid this... i shouldn't though.

lucas: i only pulled off one spike (dair) but it didn't really matter if it was a spike or not, because dk wasn't going to be able to recover anyway. i'm guessing it's awesome to pull off though. his bair just feels GREAT (the attack. haven't spiked offstage with yet)

toon link: uh... it's useful at water stages... but elsewhere it's a pretty easily predicted move and pretty worthless in a spike sense (seeing how if you miss -- which there's a big chance of -- you die)

The one thing that is fun beyond all else in the world of spikes would be spiking with luigi's taunt. If yiu've never done it LIVE THE MAGIC!:luigi:

i love the way ness spikes with his dair, then turns his head while facing the other way and gives the camera a smile.

I main GW and I spiked with his dair once. I never really try to spike with him. I also use Ike and Kirby a lot too. Ike's dtilt spike is by far my favorite, it doesn't put you in danger, it always kills them, and it's not that hard to pull off. Kirby's spike isn't good, but his multiple jumps make it good, I usually kick them to the bottom then footstool to guarantee victory.
