Spike or Meteor?

I've heard people use the term meteor and use the term spike, I always thought they were the same thing but from what I've heard they aren't, what's the difference?

Strange, the level 1s in Melee can do the Meteor Cancel, but I never saw a Brawl level 1 do one.

Ontopic, like everyone else said, a meteor is cancelable, but i think the only reason a spiek isnt cancelable is because it wasn't meant to shoot the opponent down..

I believe Snake's Fair if hit correctly Meteors the opponent
