sorry if this is an over used topic but my friend and i are entering a doubles tourney in a month. 3 stock, no items, all on battle field, FF off.

He mains Diddy, and is very good with him. He uses the bananas like crazy and with FF off they dont bother me. i can also use them quite well myself. he's working on combos and spikes and such but for now he's mainly for annoyance and damage. None the less, he's sticking with Diddy

I main Lucas, which sucks with Diddy. We played a few matches against another entrant's team, my friends' Lucario/ Snake team. We couldnt win a single match D: Obviously Lucas/Diddy doesnt mix well at all.

However, i like to play with almost every character and am decent with everyone (except Olimar D: ) so if need be i can pick up something better for the sake of being a good teammate. Here's a list of my main secondaries:

ZSS
ROB
Kirby
Luigi
Falco

I'm really liking ZSS or ROB because both seem to be excellent teammates. Also last tourney i entered at the same gamestore (1v1) had 64 entrants, no ZSSs and no ROBs. this leads me to think "hey, no one good around here plays ZSS or ROB very well... so one one would know how to handle them." this theory was proven partially true when i fought the lucario who beat me in the tourney (5th place winner) with ROB, just for fun. he had a really hard time keeping up and i found myself almost comming out on top. (come on, if i beat his best character witha joke character... that'd be sad)

Anyways i'd like some feedback on this. Right now im tossing between ZSS and ROB (mostly ROB) but i'd like some other opinions. thanks :)

Team tournaments are with friendly fire ON, so you know.

Lucas and Diddy can mix well, you probably weren't playing it well.

And what do you have against Olimar? :(

If you like Lucas so much, I suggest picking up Ness instead. You may find that bananas and a trapping PK Fire are much more useful than Lucas' one hit PK Fire. Falco works well for pretty much the same reason, keeping the foes at a distance and trapping them in place with lasers temporarily.

If it were me, I'd be using Pikachu though.

all you need to do is training like a team a lot... its best to train whith ff on... adn try to train against two level 4 cpu's and try double comboing them... that should improve your team play.

FF IS OFF! i know, i posted this same problem on another board and ppl got confused. but yes, i asked the store owner, the guy who's organizing this thing, and it's off.

Also the other board heavily suggested ROB, because of the lasers and gyrotops. So like i said im leaning towards him or ZSS D:

i guess my main question who complements Diddy best really :/

Well, if it's off, just find some broken combination like Pit and Falco, and mash B the whole time.

Lucas is great in my opinion. I've played very well with my friend's Diddy. We like it when I set up his spike, it works great :D

But it all boils down to this. How is your friend playing Diddy and how are you playing Lucas? Or any character for that matter. Maybe you wanna change up your strategy for your teammate or opponent. For instance, I love being the aerial guy, but with my friend's Jigg, I'm usually his backup, since he's the aerial guy, and I just take over when he misses or gets knocked away, and stay on the ground for support. Try making custom strategies and themes for how you guys work. Play to your strengths, and try to find what works best for the both of you. :D

With FF off, it's not so much about strategy as it is about just trying to find spammable attacks. Just try to find two character who have good projectiles and/or big hitboxes and try to overlap them so there isn't a gap. Since you can't hit each other, you can create some traps and hitbox walls that are difficult to impossible to break.

For example, hold out Pit's >B and stand behind/inside him and do >B's and PKFreezes with Lucas. If they try to go over, just start using PKT or Usmash. Unless they have a longe range disjointed attack that's not a projectile, they can't get past Pit's >B, and if they try to go over you can control that as well with the abovementioned Lucas Usmash or something like Snake mortar spam.

If you like Diddy/Lucas you can just try camping one side of the stage and shooting peanuts/tossing bananas with Diddy while Lucas just spams PK fire and thunder at them.

Just try and find a combination of attacks and time it so the opponent can't get around it without getting hit. Snake mortar, Falco Laser, Pit arrows and SideB, Lucas's up, side, and neutral B, Zelda's Din's fire all fit the bill pretty well.

Just beware that your opponents will probably be trying to do the same thing, so the match will generally turn into a big camping projectile fest that last 10 minutes.

generally most people play with friendly fire ON and so do i,so i dont know any strategies with FF off so i would just say spam with falco and pit since they are good spammers and both have ways to reflect.

btw you spelled "strategy" wrong.
