In a money match generally both people have to agree on a stage list. This stage list doesn't have to be the same as that of the tournament they're attending.
Yeah, I know, and that's fine. tbh I very much dislike the idea of custom stages, even though they look really fun and hurray for adding diversity to the game.. but I don't like the idea that newcomers can't just go to a tournament and be at all on an equal footing to the ppl who happen to frequent Smashboards and the like. I see the brawl community as a shrinking bubble enough as it is :( we need to be more welcoming to ppl who want to get into the competitive scene but don't know all our silly little extra rules and limitations (ex. when TOs go overboard with rules like "no double MK in teams" and attempts at limiting chaingrabs etc.)

hmm that had nothing to do with anything

I guess just I can't fault you for declining the custom stages for MMs.
At least until/unless they become reeeeally widely accepted/understood by the community (at least in your area).

It's the preemptive bawwwing about regular brawl stages which ppl haven't bothered to understand, which bugs me.

Anyone who has a problem with custom stages clearly needs to watch more Starcraft videos...

I don't have a problem with custom stages in concept. I just don't have a Wii in college so I have no time or opportunity to practice on them. So why would I want to use them in MM's where I have the choice not to?

And frankly Abyss is broken for ROB and probably a few others and I don't understand the reasoning for creating more CP stages when so many are already so in favor of certain characters over others. Tako, OS and others are going to have a great time getting free games there off people.

Equity and Libra are both really good for my character so I don't care much about them.

Edit: I don't know much about starcraft but aren't their custom stages designed to be more balanced rather than less? Abyss is not balanced. End of discussion.

theyre just trying to prove that the concept of custom stages has been successful in another game and at least deserves a chance in brawl

I've played Abyss against a lot of matchups, and it's not always in Robs favor compared to neutrals. For example, Diddy would seem bad on this stage but he has a lot of control over the middle. I'm not going to go in much detail because AZ would be mad :D, but I'd definitely take him to other stages.

Tyr, you only know that Abyss is a good ROB stage because you practiced the stages with an entire room of smashers at a smashfest and Tako and I played on it a bunch with ROB =P

If you experimented a little more, you'd find other characters do quite well on it too.

How many people have video recording equipment?

If you've got it, bring it and let me know and we'll have designated recording stations. I'll try to get all the matches you want on those stations since its your recording station, but I'd like to have multiple matches from singles bracket recorded if possible. It'd be cool to have a MW Circuit video thread, no?

^Yeah, I've got my camera as always, and while it's nice to hear the **** talk and whatnot, AV cable recorded matches are superb.

I know that Hilt, Lou, AZ and Fonz have these capabilities, but it's completely up to you guys whether or not to do it. Maybe you can even talk OS into discounting your venue or something...

Yeah if I experimented a little bit more on the Wii that's broken at my house I might find that other characters can use it as a CP against me as well. Hooray.

I still have to ask: why on earth are we creating more counterpick stages? Do some characters just not have enough good CP's? Can I make a stage for my character and have it added to the CP list? What purpose does creating counterpick stages serve?

Making custom stages that are balanced to be used as neutrals makes sense following the theory that the premade stages in the game are not in fact neutral. I can buy this. Arbitrarily creating counterpick stages does not make sense. You are adding imbalance to an already imbalanced game and you admit it simply by putting the stage on the counterpick list rather than the neutral.

It isn't logical. There is no reason for it to be there. It should be removed.

Creating stages that are merely designed to be starters limits possibilities. Abyss is fairly close to being a starter itself; only its unconventional style really changes it to a CP, not its matchups. Custom stages can potentially be CPs, and as the stage list lowers it may be prudent to add CPs to the game. Abyss isn't a very radical stage, and I get to see if players will discover how the stage works and if they will CP it as well as how they do.

Think of it as an experiment, and Abyss is in a closed environmnet. Everyone can get the stage, everyone can practice it, and if one person decides they want to use the stage they can do so in tournament. As time goes on, more people will have played the stage and a greater amount of stage knowledge will be available. If the stage can then be considered the same way we consider CPing Delfino or Frigate, we've got a great CP that was made by smashers. If the stage turns out to be an instant-win for certain characters or turns out to be a complete drag overall, we've got a bad CP.

Also, you can't really complain about being unable to practice the stages if you don't have a Wii. You can't practice any stage if you don't have a Wii.

Go to Eds tomorrow and you can practice 'em :p

Some custom stage triva:
Ports 3 and 4 start in the middle for all the customs IF THERE ARE 3-4 PLAYERS IN THE GAME (AKA DOUBLES). Port 3 starts on the middle platform, player 4 starts below the platform.

It had to be this way in order for 1st and 2nd to be on opposite ends to have 1v1 be fair. (The starting points don't look at ports exactly... it searches left to right for a player that's in the game and puts that player at "starting point 1" then continues left till it finds another player and puts that player at "starting point 2" etc.)

SO when determining port, make sure you are aware of where the starting places will be.

Good luck to everyone at this tournament.

Aye, but those stages aren't starter ;)

I'm gonna wait and watch doubles matches at the tournament.

Arnold Palmer? Are we talking about lemonade and iced tea mixed together? If we are, they're at just about ANY decent sized gas station among other places.
