This is to vent out all your complaints and to avoid making other topics about Toon Link's bad match ups or whatever.

For me personally, I cant play this guy anymore. He just is'nt fun. Everything I liked about Young Link are completely gone.

Things I liked about YL that TL does not have:
-Good Projectiles and bombs. His projectiles although have better range, were nerfed hardcore. His arrows are better, but thats about it. You can no longer easily combo with projectiles since bombs are **** and his boomerang is also ****(No sweet spot up close? T__T).

-Heavy damage. Young Link was one of the best characters in the game when it came to racking up damage extremly fast(Next to Ganondorf and Marth. And maybe even Falcon). His projectile combos always gaurenteed at least 20-30% for each combo and they were so easy to use. His bombs were so fast and good which made things like the Lai-Fire possible. Appearently all his projectile combo ability went towards his killing ability. :[

-Fast. Fun.
TL is neither fast nor fun. He is floaty and slow(as well as the rest of brawl). His projectiles are frustrating to use(Bomb dropping is almost pointless in this game. It works sometimes, but he drops it so slow...)..
overall, the only good thing about TL is his killing ability. Beyond that , he is boring.

It sounds like you are more pissed at brawl in general than you are with Toon Link. Hope you can learn to enjoy the game anyway even if it is more floaty than melee.

Umm, Toon Link is really good. But it sounds like you don't like brawl, and while I understand that, I disagree.

Actually, I mained YL in melee for a long time, and I like TL better. His attacks are just as fast, he's kept a lot of his strengths, he has ( i think, maybe its just me and the characters I've played against as him) better priority than before (particularly aerials) and I actually like his boomerang. I do wish his bombs had better range though...

I hate how there ar epeople who main Toon Link based on how good he is rather than the actual character or games he's from.

Shallow, yeah, but I just do.

Bombs were generally just made less fun, since you could do too many epic things with them in Melee.

I also hate how force grabbing also makes his bomb game bland.

Are we playing the same game man?
His aerials do have more knockback, but nothing can replace YL's n-air. Too much priority. Too much combo potential. Too good.

His boomerang is a piece of **** in brawl. It moves so slow also does **** damage.
his bombs are worthless almost.
his arrows are about the only thing thats good, but they do **** damage too..

The only thing thats good about TL is his aerials(Minus his n-air).
And thats all.

YL and TL aren't the same character, YL is from OoT and TL is from the Windwaker

changing him so much from YL may have been a way to help give him more of an identity so people wouldn't just think its YL all over again just with a different name

I personally love Toon Link. I think he's the best character in the game. Even if his projectiles are't the greatest things, when added together you can literally be shooting a non-stop barrage of **** into your opponents face AS YOU FIGHT HIM. It's too fun, and the way a returning boomerang will knock your opponent right into your charging smash sometimes is just too sweet.

I never played Young Link in Melee though. In fact, I've always thought sword characters were lame because they look all "cool" and so everyone loved to use them, but Toon Link is so good that I've fallen into the sword character category with him.

By the way, Toon Link's boomerang DOES do more damage up close.
Its not a "sweetspot" like Young Link's. YL's boomerang up close will knock your opponent in the air stunned for a short amount of time, allowing you to combo out of this(Plus it dealt like 20% damage). TL's boomerang has the same amount of stun and knockback no matter where you throw it and im sure it only does around 6% at the max.

I understand that his bombs may not do the most damage anymore and his range with them is mediocre at best but from what I understand of the character that's not really the point of toon link. I've always assumed he was mainly an ariel fighter and the priority in the match was to get your opponent in the air so you could unleash some of his better air moves, the majority of which have good knock back. I also am hearing people go on about how he's not that fast and to this I must ask WHAT GAME ARE YOU PLAYING?! Toon link is crazy fast on the ground (not sonic fast but still) and though his air descent may be slow he's got a great dair to help cope with it

I agree with all of these. I like his arrows better and his smashes for the most part are better also, but I find him really boring to play. He is WAY too floaty. This wouldn't be a major problem except that his horizontal aerial movement is as slow as molasses in January.

Honestly, I think he is overrated by many preliminary tier lists - he is good, but he has a lot going against him as well.

I nvr like YL in Melee. In Melee Link didn't stink horribly so I nvr got used to YL. TL plays almost like Link in Melee IMO.

I also like Toon Link for the games he represents.

TL is soooo much better than YL guys. His projectile game is ****ing nasty, short-hop bomb throw to canceled arrow is too good. The boomerang is there to be an annoyance, and does a **** fine job. He actually has some throw combos(OMG COMBOS IN BRAWL!!!1) and he can actually kill his opponents, something YL lacked. Overall a better character by far and certainly one of the most fun to play.

Someone already stated it earlier in this thread....but the main thing people aren't realizing is that Young Link and Toon Link are two completely different characters story/timeline wise, so why would they be exactly the same. Yes, they have an unbeleivable amount of similarities, doesn't mean they are comparible :/

The main thing is that YL mains from Melee lost a character they liked, which was seemingly replaced by what would generally be a similar character, only to find out this replacement doesn't play anything like their older character at all.

i didnt play young link in melee, but everyones complaining about how much better young link was, but then, why is toon link so much more feared and higher in tier position? i love playing toon link, i thought id just give him a try, seeing as how amazing windwaker and phantom hourglass are, and just love his fighting style

Well for one thing, Ocarina of Time > Wind Waker.

Second of all, a different game engine + a moveset that is supplemented by it is why Toon Link excels in Brawl, unlike Young Link in Melee. However, trying to compare the two based off movesets is a simple expression of how, were these two in the same game, Young Link would be prefered/better character in general.

And Phantom Hourglass was just ok. The only amazing thing is having to close the DS to stamp a symbol onto your map.

Wow, who complains about their character getting better? lol
I'm sorry.
But when you substitute being fun over being good, its not such a good trade off.

And honestly, TL is garbage compared to YL. He does'nt rack up nearly as much damage as fast as YL does. His projectiles suck in comparrison. Pretty much, literally everything is worst except his killing ability. Even YL was better in the air compared to TL IMO.

YL's n-air alone was too good and awesome.
I do wish YL had TL's b-air and f-air. :|But his d-air is alright I too I guess.

TL is not garbage. I've played as YL in melee and I prefer TL more. YL in melee was a spinoff of link. For all of the TL haters out there, why don't you just play as Link? instead of complaining about TL.

The only thing I can complain about TL is when our Final Smash is activated, you hit a guy, TL goes over to beat on him, and then the triforce disappears. TL stops, and the enemy just recieved damage.

I kinda miss Yink's bair and nair.
Tink has good substitutes though.

I also like Tink's arrow and boomerang more. The old bombs were better imo

BAH! I "picked up" TLink like a week ago. I use apostrophes because I played him like twice and just considered him a back-up.

It's obvious I don't really know what I'm doing. I just spam Bair and projectiles. Which I read is his playstyle but I want to do it better.

Enter SHDA (Short Hop Double Arrows)
I tried in 1/2 speed perfect right off.
I tried in 2/3 speed perfect after, like, 20 seconds.
I tried in 1x speed.
What.
The.
Crap.
I can get it like 40 percent of the time. How long does it take to learn this anyway?

it's not how fast you press it. It's your timing you need to work on. It takes about 1 week to completely master it and regularly use it in battle. After that, you'll soon be able to reverse bow cancel and BC cancel (or both!). ^_^

I kinda figured it wasn't. I try to do one on the way up and one on the way down. I try to do the first one when my short hop is RIGHT above where Tlinks head is when he's standing and then on the way down.

So yeah. I know HOW but I was just wondering how long it took to be.....fluent? One week? All right. I expected it to take about an hour since it didn't look too hard.

Okay. So I figured out after playing Link that I am actually confusing TL being "bad" with him just being extremely boring to play. And that was why I liked playing YL so much, because he was the most fun to play with in Melee.

So yea. TL is'nt bad. He is just really boring to play as.
Link is complete garbage, but he is a lot of fun to play as and just as frustrating(Yep...reminds me of YL :O).
What really just adds to Link's fun level is how much closer he is to YL than TL is. A lot of the same projectile **** that worked with YL works with Link too.

If you like the old young link's fall speed, you should like Brawl Link. He is basically Young Link from Melee that grows up into Brawl Link. Toon Link is a whole new generation of Link. And Melee Link/Oot Link retired. I miss Melee Link. :(
