What I find fascinating about Dudunsparce is how much it divides the Poke-playerbase. Some people found it hilarious while others were genuinely upset that it didn't become something greater, like a dragon or something.
I personally think there's room for BOTH kinds of Dunsparce evolution, and an ideal situation would allow for both possibilities to exist. So to that end, I dusted off my knuckles and built a regional Dunsparce form for Purore.
I wanted to avoid making Dunsparce look TOO fearsome, cuz I do think THAT takes away from the charm of the line being a silly snake which wouldn't harm a fly outside of battle. So instead of going straight up epic awesome dragon route, I went a, well, 'dreamier', cuter route. Everyone and their grandma wants a ground-fairy type and I thought it fit my idea the best. But to keep with its pretty draconic appearance and all the desire for a dragon-y Dunsparce, I gave it an ability that boosts dragon moves to STAB status, without having to worry about the additional weaknesses the Dragon type would give it (nobody wants to be quad-weak to Ice!).
I'm especially excited about the basis, though. I based it upon the European legend of the Sandman, a being that brings good dreams. And keeping with Dunsparce's friendly silly appearance, it evolves into a lovable serpent who brings good dreams to the people of Purore. It even evolves when it learns the special new move Slumber Sands, essentially a Ground-type version of Sleep Powder with slightly better accuracy.
I think I did a good job of giving this Pokemon some appeal to those disappointed by Dudunsparce while still keeping Dunsparce's classic doofy charm without making it a fierce dragon deity. But for those who prefer the classic Dudunsparce, there will be a fellow in Purore who offers a Johtonian Dunsparce for a Purorian Dunsparce, so everyone gets a happy ending.
Mr Sandsparce, bring me a dream...
