Ok so I do feel strange about like… the entire gameplay structure of DKB. Because yes, it does look at least a little fun. But I feel like this pigeon holes the series in a way. In both 3D and 2D. Now if you want to make a game that isnt about smashing everything with a fully destructible environment people will feel weird about it. And I imagine this will affect how people look at the older games too. Now DK games have to be about smashing stuff. It’s not like Mario where you can take away the fludd or cappy and it’s fine. This is baked into the dna of the character. And I don’t know how I feel about that because smashing things is not why I like donkey Kong or his games.
Not really. It's not like Samus is gonna have her Prime 4 gimmick forever, if they don't want to. Sonic Frontiers finally dropped the Wisps, if I'm not mistaken. They still made Shattered Dimensions after making Spider-Man 2 and Ultimate Spider-Man. The stage structure to Mega Man 7 and 8 changed after Mega Man and Bass, and changed to the original style after that with Powered Up, 9, 10 and 11. Style Changes in MMBN got swapped for the Soul System.

Like, I don't think people are gonna be mad if the next Kirby game doesn't have Mouthful transformations. And people got over the lack of power mixing in 64 not returning in most titles since depth was given to each form on its own. And those two Kirby examples are still tied to the primary gimmick of him sucking in objects to gain their attributes.

It makes sense when you consider who owns 96% of SNK, who owns the league that Rapenaldo plays in and who's family keeps hiring this dude for various music events.

And that's not a good thing.
Boy I sure love celebrity cameos in my fighting games for bad performances, and also an alleged sexual predator gets to be fully playable instead of Bob Wilson cause a major company bought out both a Soccer league and the majority of the funny Terry Bogard company. Haha Funny DJ instead of Duck King or anything. Truly great times we're living in.

He’s precious. The rock is precious. They’re both precious.
Gotta admit, after seeing the trailers a few more times (mostly from watching reactions of the Direct trailers) DK's new design is starting to grow on me a bit.

It's mostly because this design seems a bit more expressive, though. The overall head shape still just looks off to me somehow.

It’s just… all these examples feel different. I’m not sure quite what. But they do.
The only thing I don't like about DKs new design is the awkward gap between his eyes and his forehead.
idk why they had to give him shaggy fur.

I have two wolves inside me:
  • "Project X Zone 3 must happen! Sonic confirmed!"
  • "Project X Zone should stay as a dormant IP. It should be remembered as one of the greatest crossovers and there's no need of a new installment."

Kirby's copy ability is his most iconic feature, and they've added and taken away various aspects to that power over the years. Unlocking new moves, mixing them, using them with MMX style Mechs, Super-Powered versions of them. Copying objects rather than powers. They've come and they've gone.

Some of the theming with DK Bananza is that he's mining. So destructive features are expanding both on his power and the contextual themes of the game itself. Like, Hypothetically, another DK game focuses on power but in a different way, with Boxing like in Punch-Out. So he now has a more combat focused moveset like a DMC title or something. The focus would on in-depth combat, and not destructible environments, while still selling DK on being strong. Since the DKC games did the same on a smaller scale compared to Diddy not being able to smack around certain enemies.

Like, I can't see the future, I don't know what DK game is after this one. I don't know how it will play. But given the track record of most game series adding in, and taking out features. It's not too crazy to assume there's a chance this is a one and done.

Hell, Mortal Kombat was 3D for a while, Street Fighter added parries, took them out, gave them to specific character, then made it universal again. They took Mega Man's slide away for 2 games, then added it back in.

I don't know. I guess I would have just liked DK's first game in 10 years and his first 3D game in 26 years (gosh I'm as old as DK 64) to feel a little more familiar.

I'd like to see more of the second wolf if that means you'll stop bringing it up every hour of every day.

Yeah I had some interest in CotW because I heard it was more defensive than other FGs on the market and that's usually how I like to play, but all the **** I've learned about this rabbithole in the past week has tanked any desire I had.

I mean... all that's ended up doing is putting a soccer player and a DJ on the roster. Like... that's two characters.

I called it a rabbithole for a reason.

If it was just that, I'd still be very disappointed from just an artistic POV, but there's a lot of morally ****ed up things that coincided to make this happen.

That's understandable, but acting like it's the end of the world, when there's much ****tier things going on isn't terribly healthy. There's Windswept and Nikoderiko if you want something closer to traditional DKC to hold you over. Obviously that's not exactly the same. But I got a kick outta Shovel Knight and other Mega Man adjacent games before MM11 dropped, there's whole market for it. There's an entire market related to Metroid and Castlevania games. And some Sonic fans became Freedom Planet fans too. Not to mention how big Pizza Tower got, and while it's not literally Wario, plenty of Wario fans gave it a try and enjoyed it.

We also don't know a ton of DKB's whole deal, so it might have some **** you like down the line.

Y’know, that’s understandable. Before yesterday that’s kinda what I wanted too.

But now that I’m thinking about it I’m kinda happy they went in this wild new direction. I mean, 15 years ago we already had a new DK game that played it super safe to reestablish the franchise (that was just remade a few months ago) so I dunno how many times we need to go back to basics. I’m not sure if I would’ve been as excited about yet another game set on DK Island, even if it’s in 3D.

Don’t get me wrong, I still wanna see more returning characters (which we’re already starting to see) but I’m happy to let them go crazy with the locations and the gameplay.

I mean honestly even the treehouse stuff we saw today made me more ok with it. At the very least I’m not actively angry about it and I don’t want to punch Miyamoto anymore.

In addition to FNaF2 getting a teaser trailer, M3GAN 2.0 also just got a trailer.

The tone of the movie looks radically different from the first, which combined horror and modern day Terminator-esque elements with an emotional rollercoaster, but this one looks more like a straight-up sci-fi action horror with a lot of comedy.

I'm not sure how accurate that is just based off of the trailer, though, and I also wasn't convinced the original M3GAN was going to be any good based on it's bizarre trailer at first, either, so I'm keeping an open mind about the sequel regardless of the film's tone.

One is an alleged rapist/sexual predator. This is why people are primarily upset. It sucks because unlike the MK stuff, it isn't just voice acting, but full characters. I don't know if the DJ did anything really bad, so I won't speak on a person I know less of. But we know SNK got bought out by a company that also owns the league said predator soccer player belongs to, so it's not hard to see a line in why he was added in the first place. Of course that's still speculation on my part even now. I know it's not the first time a game added a controversial figure to it, hell, the most famous one was Punch-Out with Mike Tyson, but that game got a Non-Tyson release at some point anyway.

I do find it funny, that the one Street Fighter fan crashed out over Terry and Mai cause of the company that currently owns SNK, but not that SNK was likely put into a position, to again, add an alleged predator.

Well, that's progress at least. Even if you don't like the game or anything. It's more important about not being as upset as you were. And like a mentioned earlier, there's some DKC adjacent titles you could go to if DKB still isn't vibing with you. Or if 70 dollars in the current economy is too damn much for a console game, which is fair.

I'll check them out but Nikoderiko still looks AI Generated to me.

The sexual predator thing is no good. But i'm still buying City of the Wolves cause it looks cool and like... name me a famous person who isn't a predator.

And I still gotta force my way through DKB because it's Donkey Kong. I forced my way though Mario Odyssey even though it never really clicked with me and I barely care about Mario.

Normally I think Joe gets overhated, but not this time:

“I’m not defending them, I hate it too.”

-goes on to try and make an excuse for why the games need to be $80.

Yeah sure Joe whatever you say.

The multi billion dollar company whose had a near 50% profit increase and flourished during the pandemic expanding its workforce,

is somehow strapped for cash and needs to cover the costs of production.

That math just doesn’t add up.

I'll give that Nikoderiko is very much "Deviant Art Furry" artstyle. So visually it's not my jam. But mechanically seems fine. It's also half Crash/half DK. Which I guess makes sense, but in what platformers to mix together and for the furry artstyle.

Big contender for my worst aged post ever.
I'm sorry, but she doesn't clear Storm or Rogue dude. Faking the accent proves that. Scott Summers is the first white dude to suffer from CSBMCS (Cronic Snowbunny Mind Control Syndrome). Why does this man have a fetish for mind readers?

Yeah it sucks. Not gonna defend Nintendo on that. We shouldn't go back to SNES era pricing. 1. Regulated pricing for most titles since the PS1 is much easier on the consumer. 2. The current economy is pretty different from the 1990's, and not for the better.

Okay so I complained about price

but

if DKB has K. Rool in it, I’m day 1 on it
There’s apparently a crocodile statue in the game that has the textures of King K Rool’s cape.

I think it was somewhere in the trailer.
correct, there’s two of them actually:

Theory time:

-The Kongs of VoidCo abducted all the miners of Ingot Isle to force them to work
-They’re looking for Banandium, but also there’s rumors of an even greater treasure hidden in the center of the earth that could make them incredibly rich and all-powerful
-Being greedy ******** they’re obviously all in
-But it turns out that K Rool and the Kremlings are the ones hidden underground. They sent that rumor out to trick some bozos into digging them up, and now that they’re free they can return to the surface and destroy DK Isle
-Unless DK stops them, of course :dkmelee:

Alright that second one is just a zigzag. I see the resemblance in the first picture though.

It wasn't a critical darling, sure, but Air Ride is definitely beloved among the Kirby fandom. A new entry has been requested for years.

Also, calling it "lesser known" and "lesser cared about" is pretty damn ignorant and disingenuous when **** like Block Ball, Pinball Land, Mass Attack, and the Canvas games exist.
It can be lesser known and less cared about AND be in the same group as canvas, pinball and block ball. The Kirby IP has tons of bad and ignored games.

I’m feeling optimistic about his chances, but not taking anything for granted. Being a K. Rool fan means you’re used to this song and dance before lol

I've been noticing a lot of people try to come out and defend the prices on the console and games bringing out the whole inflation excuse. of course the prices don't matter to them because they probably can afford it plus more

On one hand, I get it. Game prices never raised with inflation so we've been due for games to become more expensive for a long time; gaming is technically one of the only hobbies that's gotten cheaper with inflation because prices never changed until recently.

On the other, much larger hand, if things don't change it is actually better value for your money to buy a Playstation 5, Series X, or Steamdeck for around the same price as a Switch 2 and take advantage of regularly occurring sales to get games at a fraction of the price.

Like, I got FF7 Rebirth and The Last of Us Part 1 on my PS5 for a combined $70 last Black Friday. Two AAA games, one of which released in 2024, for the same price as a slightly enhanced Switch 1 game.

I'm praying Nintendo goes HARD with those eShop sales this generation because otherwise they will have completely swapped from being the most cost-friendly console to the most expensive. Stuff like virtual card sharing and Download Play has me on a light dose of copium, but I'm keeping expectations low.
