As an outsider to VTubers the whole culture is very bizarre to me. Imagine if 90% of regular YouTubers were owned by one corporation and one day there was a corporate message saying "yeah, Scott The Woz is Graduating " and that's the last you see of him

EDIT: also apparently some V-Tubers just come back with new models after "graduation"? Imagine if DougDoug retired and then a few weeks later some guy named "BlugBlug" appeared and was just DougDoug pretending to be a pirate or some ****.

It’s important to note that this industry has its roots in idol culture and there’s a lot of regulations and expectations that come with corporate idol life, albeit slightly less so since they go by a persona and don’t have to show their true appearances.

And sometimes it gets to a point where it’s too much for the talent and they think it’d be best for their own sake to basically retire or go independent/join a more easygoing corpo if they love streaming.

This whole discussion reminds me of how Lextorias said that an RPG is any game with stats you can level up, weapons/armor you can loot, choices you make in the story, multiple playable characters, side quests and maybe an open world, but then goes on to point out that counts Grand Theft Auto V as an RPG.

Do you actually know anyone who plays Sea of Thieves? I ask out of genuine curiosity because it’s apparently a very popular game that has a lot of players and has had many seasons of content and lasted two console generations but I only know one person personally who plays it and it rarely comes up on gaming youtube. Heck it never even got brought up in Smash speculation. Where’s the disconnect here?

Ok but those series come up often in common gamer talk parlance, even if only to mock them. It just feels so strange to have a game that’s so popular and yet nobody talks about it and it’s not a sports game.

Real talk, a lot of gaming talk usually happens in closed groups, and unless they produce a lot of drama/fan art, you're not gonna see much of it.

There are a lot of successful games out there that you barely hear a thing about because they just don't make headlines.

I mean I can’t think of many that don’t come up even in small amounts unless they’re either really old or really obscure.

Yeah, I'd argue that the battle system (probably) sets it apart from an action RPG, but with how much high-budget games lean to customization, it's getting harder to say what is an RPG and what's not.

That's why I'm annoyingly pedantic about genres myself.

Colosseum was my first pokemon game so I'm genuinely super excited to play it, I borrowed the game from a friend so I never had the chance to beat it as a kid, I want payback, I remember giving up after not being able to catch either Suicune or Entei lmao

I had to Google if that looked like regular Starmie and TIL that Google has a Pokemon game where you collect the Kanto dex by just searching “guessing” the name of the Pokemon

I think it not being on Switch could be a reason why it's not mentioned here as much. Its stated that 40 million people have played it although not sure if its sales.

Its developed by Rare although lot of employees from the 90s left by then.

Zelda for the most part is probably closer to RPG Adjacent (not sure if that’s the right term) where it has elements from the genre but it’s from a different genre entirely.
