Alright, I apologize ahead of time for me being too lazy to read through 70+ pages....but even after reading the first post guide, I still don't understand what to do in order to make a jacket for Ness.

I've already done dropping the hitbox and using the deadline pretty easily, but I'm just not sure when the hitbox is supposed to attach to Ness. Is it right after I do an attack that recalls the deadline? And how do I actually make the jacket (i.e. put upsmash, dsmash, thunder into it) once it's attached?

once you drop the hitbox, any A-move [in air or standing], grab, and when PKT hits Ness [meaning not the projectile, but when it hits Ness and launches him], that will activate the deadline, sending the hitbox of whatever move you just did across the screen from the place you dropped it to your body [note: if you have multiple opponents, only the opponent closest to you will get grabbed, all the other moves will hit everyone in the deadline though]

as far as jackets go, SHFFL [short hop fast fall lcancel] a d(own)air...make sure you l-cancel the dair though! you don't have to necessarily SHFFL it, you can full jump and then fast fall as you're doing the dair and lcancel it, but yeah, that's how you get the spike jacket
uair jacket ->just do the uair RIGHT when you're about to land, and l-cancel it, the whole move should NOT come out, otherwise it didn't work.
thunderjacket -> you can either upB yourself straight into the ground [from the air though, if you're standing and hit yourself on the head with the upB, that doesn't work], you'll know you did it right if Ness just goes straight into the ground and he doesn't slide anywhere. The other way to do it, run off or wavedash off the edge and IMMEDIATELY upB [so that as you're falling, there is practically zero distance between Ness's back and the edge] and hit yourself directly onto the ledge so that you sweet spot and regrab the edge immediately. again, if Ness didn't grab the edge, it didn't work.

Yeah man, makes you feel like we really accomplished a little something.

Reading that also made me remember how the Ness board used to be. It was pretty slow in those days. One or two posts a week...and then a few of us Ness players just started posting like crazy and for months it was like a private club. Little to no moderation, lots of topics going completely off topic for days at a time, that's where my post count went from normal to embaressing.

The YYG has really increased board activity a noticeable amount. Which is not necessarily a bad thing...

I think my our huge guide probably got some attention. What with the huge length....

Is is just me, or are there a lot of people who frequent the Ness boards now? Before, there was almost no one, now... many more.

the ness boards are fun and laid-back.
that's usually a good thing, but i do see spammers and double-posters... ademisk, ahem.

well, you get those forums problems anywhere else too, so... fun and laid-back is better ^_^

It's still kind of like that. All these topics are going way off topic a lot. Like the Ness v. high-tier discussion (I sort of got that one back on topic). But it's still very laid back. Mainly cause of Simna who has to be sarcastic in almost every single thing he posts :) jk.

Yeah right, like that time you closed my thread about Animorph porn cause you claimed it was "inappropriate" and "obscene."

IT WAS NEITHER! ANIMORPH SEX IS A BEAUTIFUL AND NATURAL THING.

Ahem.

So if you drop a thunder jacket on the ground, does it stay there if you use an attack? And does it disappear if you are hit?

It will be a trapbox just like the trapbox of the starting yo yo glitch, with a deathline and everything. But just like the starter trapbox, if someone gets hit by it, your next hit will be a ghost hit.

No fuzzy pickles on ghost hits.

Isn't the best way to deal with the ghost hit just to use F-air, because it hits multiple times?

Yeah. Like when I'm using a thunder jacket, I don't try to follow it up. A regular jab works to get rid of the phantom hit. Even with a spike jacket, I jab then follow it up because I will have enough time anyways. Or just do a PK Toasty :).

My only problem with the YYG was that I didn't know you couldn't do it with the C-stick. I was completely unaware of that half second charge that's needed right after the yoyo hits. I still can't pull it off against humans well enough to make it useful, but before, even if they stood still, I wouldn't land it.

My only problem with the YYG was that I didn't know you couldn't do it with the C-stick.
I've been informed [think somewhere in some compendium or whatever] that you can't use the charged upsmash out of shield with the Cstick and have it work, but I'm pretty sure you can just do a regular one [meaning: not out of shield] with the Cstick and charge [by simultaneously or at least immediately pressing Z and hold Z for as long as you want to charge]...maybe that'll work better for you if you're more accustomed to using the Cstick for the upsmash? Either way: keep practicing!!!

I've actually found that since a lot of the stronger characters, or more accurately: stronger attacks, when shielded, will push Ness out of block-grab range...guess what you can do! [and this is actually a much more practical way of landing the YYG in a real match as opposed to just catching them with it, or hoping you play a grab/upB-happy Link/YLink]: UPSMASH OUT OF SHIELD! yeah dude, it's excellent, works great on CF players, well, ones who know how to fight a good Ness [which is to say: they'll spam nair and THEN link it into a combo, since that outranges...everything you have, AND it will push Ness out of block-grab range]...but save it for when they're a bit higher in damage, or to teach them a lesson if they get too spammy and you get desperate haha.

if you can't upsmash out of sheild, here's a simple way to think about it. You can jump-cancel upsmash, right? And you can jump out of shield, right? alright...combine the timing. If you let go of shield and you see Ness's hands go to his sides for the "put away" animation that all characters have when they release their shields, then you missed the timing...it's right before that...I dunno, weird to really explain, just experiment til you get it.

...you can jump cancel an upsmash?
yeah, just try running and mid run, slam up on the analog and a [er...I mean it's just a running upsmash really]...so yeah, if you know how to time jumping out of shield, then you can time doing the upsmash out of shield the same way. May sound sliiiightly complex to some but it's really one of those things where once you learn it, that's...kinda it.

lol, I find that I do much worse on green greens and corneria because I spend so much time spamming the stage. I'll get the yyg frequently, but I leave myself open if my opponent is agressive. oh well.
