Edit: Editing to this post is finished(for now).
They should add a game mode(Maybe in SSB4) where the player that does the most damage wins.
The game mode would be meant for FFA(Casual FFAs, where players pick characters for fun, not based on top or bottom tiers).
Here's how it can work:
1. Player gain 1 point for every 1% damage they do to an enemy.
2. Players will lose points if they die. They'll lose a number of points. The actual points players lose when they die can be set under "Rules". The default number of points lost is 30 when a player dies.
3. There is also an optional setting for giving players who get kills, more points. Default 0+ points gained, can be set up to anything. Although this is not recommend as the point of the mode in the first place is to remove Kill Stealing part of Score mode, and the "I'm going to stay away from everyone while they kill each other" in Stock mode.
4. Final Option Whether a single attack done to multiple players grants points or not. Turn on/off(Default, a single attack does NOT give points for multiple players attacked for that single attack)
For example, if Meta Knight uses Mach Tornado against 3 other players, you can turn on points on or off whether Meta Knight gets points for attacking 3 players at once or just get points for damaging 1 player(even though he is damaging 2 other players).
If you don't understand what I mean, I can reexplain.
Edit: THIS IS NOT the same as Stamina mode. Like someone else said, this is kind of like Coin mode except the coins automatically go to the person who did the damage. AND JUST LIKE COIN MODE, you lose points for dying.
Personally, I'm surprised they haven't added a game mode like this yet where the player that does the most damage wins.
Anyway, here's the main reason for inclusion of a mode where the person who does the most damage wins:
(Note: Remember, this mode is mainly for "CASUAL" FFA, not 1v1s)
(Note2: I am comparing this to Score/Time mode and Stock mode mainly.)
1. It'd remove the kill stealing aspect of FFA(in Score mode) .
2. It'd remove the "stay away from everyone until they're at high percentages, then I'll kill them" aspect of FFA(In both Score and Stock mode).
3. It'd make characters that can easily KO at lower percentages a little more balanced in FFA.

Just play small stages like battlefield and Final Destination to avoid projectile spammers. Zelda, Fox, Falco, Pit, etc(Projectile spammers) cannot camp safely in stages like Battlefield or Final Destination. Don't play New Pork City or Hyrule Temple, other stages are fine.
Also, lets put a character like Ike into play in this game mode vs projectile spammers(Remember, this is for CASUAL FFA play, where you pick a character to play them for fun, not based on tiers).
Ike, is good at FFA score mode because he can KO easily at low percents.
At first, Ike may seem to be bad at a game mode where the player that does the most damage wins, but he is just as good in score mode.
Why Ike can be as good(or better) as projectile spammers(Remember, don't play New Pork City):
1. His attacks deal good damage. In stages like Final Destination, Battlefield, etc(medium-small sized stages), projectile spammers have little to no advantage against any other character. So Ike can't be camped or shot from afar.
2. He can KO well. When you die, you lose points for dying.
Well, the point is, Score Mode vs This Mode - Ike is basically the same and basically still isn't a bad character for 4 player FFAs. This applies to most characters.
Again this game mode removes the "Kill steal" and the "Stay away from everyone then get the kill" part of Stock/Score mode of 4 player FFAs.
Projectile Spammers have little to no advantage in small stages like Battlefield and Final Destination. Remember, just play all stages EXCEPT New Pork City, Hyrule Temple, maybe a few other stages in this mode as those stages will give the advantage to projectile spammers.
Now, I know some characters might have a certain advantage in a game mode where players that does the most damage wins.
Like a Meta Knight who spams Mach Tornado against 3 other characters can rack up damage quickly.
This could be considered unbalanced for Meta Knight, you can turn off the option for points to be given when a single attack attacks multiple enemies to counter this though.
So the game mode does have flaws but so does Stock and Score mode in FFA. IMO, I think Stock and Score mode has more flaws than a game mode where the player who does the most damage and dies the least wins.

This game mode is filled with fail, projectile based characters like fox or pit would **** if someone with half of a brain were using them.
Not really. UNLESS you're playing a stage like New Pork City, this should not be a problem. New Pork City, you can camp and projectile spam but not in smaller stages.most damage wins
dying=lose points
i would just continually bounce someone in the air until time ran out. eventually they would get annoyed and just kill themselves so they could be at lower percents.
this mode would not be balanced for the characters, they would have to rebalance the game for a normal mode and this mode.
i would be fox. and just run around spamming my blaster until the end of the game. however that was desided.
haha sweet i thought up an example.
they could call it projectile spamming mode.
