It is the stadium from stadium mode, it sort of has to if you look at how it is done in the game, noting the various mode(s) that have the stadium background, i.e. Home Run Contest. I always pictured the outside of FD being open like the Lylat cruise

A few people (or maybe just one) said this is supposed to be FINAL, however, no one knows (well no one who doesn't work for Nintendo) how SSE will end.

I am guessing that it will infact end at this stage, and everyone will battle the Ancient Minister, or a more powerful driving force.

This stadium taken into Subspace would be awesome!

But if this isn't Final Destination, maybe FD could be a flight around the different areas of the versus mode battles, e.g. Delfino Plaza, Norfair, Shadow Moses Island...

If this stage is Final Destination, which i hope it is, it would be cool to see it flying around all the scenery that we've seen in the map for the subspace emissary, but just be high up in the air looking down on it all, sometimes swooping in low for a few seconds.
