I almost never use it, it might mainly be there because its the hookshot from the Zelda series, sometimes I will to avoid an attack, I'll tether early and stay low till the attack is over than I'll get back up.

I use the tether recovery as a first resort. it is a faster recovery than his up+B. If you dont make on your try with the tether then us your Up+B

i should use it more, i sometimes forget i have it. tl is not really a prime target for edge guarding anyway, since the upB is such a potent deterrent of active edgeguarding.

It's helpful if someone is spamming a downtilt or something like that on the edge as an edgeguarding technique. If someone (like that ******* G&W for example) is just downtilting on the edge, your upB will get overridden by his downtilt as you come up. So I just use the tether and then spring yourself up with your invincibility.

On a side note, does anyone actually use the tether as an attack? I cannot find any use for this at all.

The tether can be useful as an attack. If you use the tether right before you land, it has ZERO landing lag. So basically, while you are landing, press Z , then immediately use a move.

The tether's main use should be letting go of the edge and immediately re-grabbing it with the tether, giving you even more invincibility frames and letting you ledgehop instantly. Anything else is secondary, since its ledge-grabbing range is a joke. It's not bad for attacking, either, but it doesn't have the range to be spammed like Samus's.

Once I was at a pretty high percent and I got downsmashed and i flew like sideways and i accidently pressed the tether recovery button and hung on to the edge and if i hadn't i would have been blasted off the screen. I was like "Sweet!" so I guess it could kinda be helpful like that.

free cookie if you can guess where i am
Three uses

1) is an edgehog...and an extremely good one at that (see http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=167650)

2) as mystic pointed out... if you get hit by say fox d-smash at high % if you DI down and tether as you are flying past the edge you will be saved (in the above link)

3) if you are just out of range from the ledge and you have used 2 jumps... tl's tether is better than his up -b as it is faster and you are is risk of getting hit on your way down with up -b (again, see video)
