That statistic, while interesting, does need some clarification.

It's possible that both Toad and Captain Toad were voted for at the same time. So, combining their votes isn't necessarily the most truthful.

But hey, Toad is doing great and I'm happy for him.

Reading this made me remember something that I've been thinking of.

Would a composite Toad moveset (that is, a moveset taking traits from both regular Toad and Captain Toad) really be so divisive? I hear people say that if you're going to include Captain Toad aspects in the moveset, then just make it Captain Toad, but I also hear people still going after the "he can't jump" thing.

(Of course, the ideal is to simply have both Toad and Captain Toad playable, but I wanna hear what you think.)

oh I’m sure a few exciting roles. there’s bound to be a new Mario kart on the next console and he’ll still be my racer of choice

Captain Toad is nearly guaranteed if the next game has costumes like in Tour.

If not, I don't see it as particularly likely.

This is likely the answer even though officially Captain Toad =/= Toad.

When 'Toad' has red spots we don't tend to see the Captain. When he has Blue though we do.

That said, can we at least get the different coloured Toads like we did with Yoshi, Shy Guy and Birdo this time?

They also have Dr. Mario as a variant, but treated as a standalone character. So it's not entirely as simple as being a costume. The games are kind of odd in how they handle variants and clones, not being consistent either way.

Dr. Mario could be a costume, but Captain Toad is more likely as standalone, since he has different stats(being a heavyweight), where it's not necessary for Dr. Mario to be a heavyweight, as he fits middleweight fine as well. Not that he can't be too, but he has less reason for it. He's no Metal Mario(who is at least separate in Mario Kart, and given unique personality changes to reflect it).

I kinda want to redo that old Toad moveset I made; does anyone have any suggestions for a down special?

Perhaps... perhaps. It fits into my idea for Toad's playstyle (themed around powerups, small and quick, and excels at close range)

I was going to fall back on him plucking SMB2's non-turnip vegetables (things like the beets and bell peppers), but I feel like if any Toad is going to pluck things, it ought to be the Captain

funny thing is I made my own toad moveset years ago but for the life of me I can’t remember what the down special was

But one thing I've noticed both here and in 8 (Deluxe)? Yoshi has alts in many different colors, but Toad is still only the red-spots-blue-vest Toad. Almost like... Toad was always his own character
