The demand for a Santa Monica/Culver City/Burbank/West LA regular tournament scene needs satisfaction!

We here at the wonderful University of California Los Angeles are willing to hold regular, monthly tournaments that do not conflict with other major (or in close proximity) tournaments for the needs of our fellow (310) Smashers.

AVALANCHE
LOCATION:
University of California Los Angeles
UCLA Tennis Center Clubhouse
308 Westwood Plaza
Los Angeles, CA 90024-5000

8:00 - 9:00 Registration/Warm-Ups
9:30 - 10:00 Set up Bracket and Start Doubles. Singles starts when Doubles winds down.
Both tournaments will run at the SAME TIME.

NEXT UCLA Tourney: NOV 9th

Previous results:
Monthlies I
Monthlies II
Monthlies III
Monthlies IV
Notes

4/21 - added UCLA VI info
2/14 - added Monthlies IV results, changed title
1/31 - added venue information for UCLA V

GET DIRECTIONS FROM GOOGLE MAPS

It's not hard this time
Here are the steps:

  1. Park at Parking Lot 6, you must pay
  2. If you have a TV, give me a ring and I'll have someone get it, or take it yourself to help things go faster
  3. Go to LA Tennis Center Clubhouse
You only get in once you register, no exceptions.
That means you can't register for doubles unless your partner is there, too.
If I want to close registration at a certain time, and you haven't entered then I'm sorry.
We can't afford to waste any more time for people who show up late.

That's all!

Hope to see yallllll there

The Melee tournament will use my previous UCLA Rules:
- You may ban neutrals (FD, PS, DL64, BF, YS, FoD)
- No Wobbling
- Mages' DQ Rule

TOURNAMENT RULES:
General rules:
3 Stock

8 minute timer

Items are set to "off" and "none"

All sets with the possible exception of winner's finals, loser's finals, and the championship are best of 3 matches (best of 5 and above is recommended for any "finals" matches)

In the event of a dispute, controller ports will be selected by Rock-Paper-Scissors

No player may choose a stage they have already won on in that set unless agreed upon by both players.

In team matches, the ports will be determined in a 1221 fashion; whoever wins the RPS will choose first, then the opposing team will get their ports, and then the teammate of the RPS winner will get the last port.

If the timer runs out, the victor is determined first by stock and then by percentage.

Metaknight's Infinite Cape glitch is banned.

You are responsible for your own controller and name tag. Any malfunctions or errors that occur are your responsibility, so bring an extra controller if possible and always check to make sure you're using the correct settings BEFORE a match is played. If a match is to be restarted due to controller functions, it must be agreed upon by both parties.

Any action that can prevent the game from continuing (i.e., freezing, disappearing characters, game reset, etc.) will result in a forfeit of that match for the player that initiated the action. You are responsible for knowing your own character, and must be wary about accidentally triggering one of these effects.
Stalling is banned.

Set format (In Order of Procedure):
1. Opponents choose their characters for the first match *
2. Opponents start the stage striking procedure
3. Each player may announce one stage to be banned for counterpicks of the set
4. The first game is played, using the stage chosen during step 2
5. The loser of the previous match announces the next match's stage from either the Starter Stage List or the Counter Stage List
6. The winner of the previous match chooses their character
7. The loser of the previous match chooses their character
8. Repeat steps 5-7 for all proceeding matches
*Double blind character selection may be called for the first match

UCLA SPECIFIC RULES:
1. All attendees must pay respect to the facility and the residents in the building. Lounges are considered free game and our occupation is not completely restricted to only us. Therefore, please be mindful of your actions; WE DON'T WANT TO BAN ANYONE.
2. Friendlies can no longer be played during bracket matches.
3. MONEY MATCHES - Please do your money matches when there is FREE TIME. I expect you to know when there is an appropriate time to do money matches. Otherwise, PLEASE REFRAIN from doing money matches when the tournament is still going on!!!
4. Make sure to wear deodorant and TAKE A SHOWER the day of or night before the tournament. A room full of 100 Smashers (typically male) is not cool if we do not make it a point to be So Fresh and So Clean Clean.

There will be public bathrooms.
This event is sponsored by UCLA !!! BEHAVE or you will be kicked out!!!

Lastly:

WE NEED TV'S and WII's (w/ SSBB) TO MAKE THE TOURNAMENT GO AS FAST AS POSSIBLE.
Without TV's, tourneys go SUPPPPER SLOW. No one enjoys them. That also means barely any friendlies. SO BRING TV's. If you are hesitant to bring a TV, BRING IT anyway!!!

Any questions, feel free to post or call me.

WE NEED TV's and WII's with SSBB. BRING THEMMM

efff this. Why would anyone want to play with AESIS? ahaha.
Also Berkeley ***** in the ridiculous-ness of the finding free/cheap parking/ They like ban cars out here :D.

This is an awesome idea, and one that local players should support, especially since some people cant make it to Ken's biweeklies. So show if you live in 310...go...noobs.

On a side note: Aesis, get your fellow UCLA smashers and form a "smash club" you guy will be able to get larger rooms and such to host smash tourney's/fest.

BTW: Getting bit bye aesis hurts. trust me i have experienced it. i sat next to him in high school WOW.

OK guys, looks like people want the 24th for our first event, any disagreements?

Otherwise, later today I'll set it for the 24th officially :psycho:

Also! If I win first place I will try to reimburse a part of everyone's parking fees, just show me your receipts or whatever. I will continue to do so for future tournaments, once I calculate appropriate reimbursement per entry ^_^ :psycho: :psycho: :psycho: :psycho: :psycho: :psycho:
We're trying to make people better! Not profit off others (too much haha)

only problem is the parking cost :( i gotta figure out somewhere to park outside of the school....and just ride my skateboard to the room. only problem is finding a safe place to do that. id rather pay 8 dollars than get a parking ticket :(

Aesis-san with the repeating of "if I win". Much confidence, have you. Revenge on me is needed, is it not? Truly say you've won if I do not go, you cannot. Same goes for ROFL, 'cept in reverse, heh. Hope I can make these, since they're so **** close....

Wow, another tourney, that's awesome. The only problem i see with it is the parking but it would still be less going here than to Ken's tourneys. :)

I might come down if i can.

Parking meters along Charles Young Dr. are 8 minutes/quarter. So if you paid $8 worth of quarters into the meter, you'd only be safe for 4 hours, as opposed to an entire day and the next morning for a $8 dollar visitor's pass...

There ARE meters and parking spaces in the surrounding streets (Gayley and Strathmore), but I'm not familiar with the parking policies/parking meter prices around that area.

Anyway, tourney starts at 11, warm-ups at 10. Anyone prefer warm-ups at 11, start at noon? Hmm Hmm?

I'm gonna try to make it to this and also visit some other friends at UCLA :) But we'll see if I can make it! If I can't make it early, I might just come say hi, not enter and then go visit some other friends at UCLA still :D

My suggestion to parking is PAY. I go to Berkeley and I face the same problem with meters. Meter Maids (Parking Cops) are ridiculous when it comes to that. They vulture the street every hour on the hour and mark your **** tires so they know how long you have been there. They have a meter monitor so they know when your meter is about to expire and already write up your ticket if they think you are going to be late and the second the meter expires even if they see you walking towards the car BAM...$60 parking ticket. So PAY the parking..noobs.
