That's what I'm going for though.

The weird thing about Gundam Wing that I've found now that I'm abridging it:

a) there are actually SO FEW satisfying Gundam fights
b) most of the soundtrack is somber, dramatic and slow
c) they reuse cels for fight scenes so often that a scene with 100% unique footage is basically impossible to find, and this is one such scene

So in planning out all of the show's first half, I coordinated it so that there is one "big fight" for every remaining episode. The biggest one comes at the tail end, between Quatre going crazy and Heero defending the colony from him while Trowa is dramatically trying to get them to stop. For a comedy, it's rather heavy-- which is good, I want there to be legitimate drama and stakes. But the actual soundtrack paired with it reinforces that melodrama. I'd rather reinforce the awesome one-time visuals of two Gundam pilots fighting in brand new mobile suits in space.

Since Two-Mix is closely associated with the show-- they're responsible for both opening themes and the theme for the "Frozen Teardrop" followup-- I've been combing through their discography for a high energy "robot fight" song I like. The more somber moments-- Quatre showing he's crazy, Trowa sacrificing himself-- I'll go with the silence of space to puncuate the moment, and use the Two-Mix song for comedic hard cuts when Heero stubbornly keeps fighting. It's also important to keep it somewhat resembling Two-Mix's "Just Communication Part II" as the fight will abruptly transition into the season credits and that song.


My current problem is that I actually like "Break" better than "Dokuhaku", but "Break" is a theme from a totally different anime, Case Closed. I'm worried using it would be jarring to people who know where it's from. Like if you were watching Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and suddenly the Transformers theme song played in a fight scene.

This is a thing because Tomino hates characters looking cool.

He wants characters to struggle and war to never look like a cool thing to viewers in his shows.
He actually killed off a character in King Gainer cause the audience found his character cooler than everyone else and had to apologize to the voice actor.

No no, not spoilers. The page still has to load them beneath the spoiler tag.

Rule of thumb. If there are already two other embedded videos on a page, link it or don't post it.

I mean it wasn’t a bad movie by any means. I think it’s a great one, and it’s Spider-Man after all. I also appreciate the differences between Peter Parker, Gwen, and Miles, and it’s made me want to read their comics.

I just think it could have been a bit longer to develop the Spider-People. Like I was told that Noir and Ham were hilarious, and they are but I was expecting more of them.

I’m just happy I have a movie that I enjoy that I can now use to teach more about identity and/or the hero’s journey.

And can we just ban Ascii art from this thread all together mods? They are so huge they make my phone lag like a person playing figjting games on potato internet

In Xabungle final battle both sides were struggling until the evil dudes got unlucky and the atomic bombs they had exploded on themselves

In Dunbine the main characters fail to save a majority of places on earth including france and their was no super duper anime scream move they could do to fix that

That's certainly a big part of it.

It also comes from the setup of the show: They asked for five killer Gundam designs, then said, "Okay now make us a story". So most every battle scene in the show involves an overpowered Gundam killing off a bunch of Leos/Aries/Tauruses, rather than a satisfying fight between two equal opponents. It's like the polar opposite of Dragonball Z.

Basically the only really cool giant robot fights in Wing are, off the top of my head:
  • Heero vs. Zechs in Antarctica
  • Heero vs. Quatre in Space
  • Heero vs. Zechs in the Zero system for the first time
  • Heero/Trowa vs. Zechs in space
  • Heero vs. Zechs in the final episode
  • Wufei vs. Treize
  • The final space battle in general
  • Wufei vs. Heero in Endless Waltz
Everything else is too short, too inconsequential or too one-sided.
