Walking with Fox

What are the advantages and disadvantages for walking with fox as opposed to other characters?

I think that walking can give Fox more options and more precise spacing, but is it generally worth doing enough considering Fox's moveset and mediocre range?

Is walking a viable approach? What about as a retreat?
Is walking more applicable in some matchups versus others?

How often do you make use of walking in your matches?

To reduce tripping chances, sure. I will also do a walking retreat when I need to space a bit like when I need to edgeguard.

I guess another advantage could be a sliding D-smash but what's stopping you from doing a shield dash and doing it right out of the shield? I guess the tripping chance.

Walking is great in Brawl, but I really don't see how it matters with Fox. The only good tilt he has is utilt and you can easily set that up with multiple other moves............walking reallly doesn't benefit him at all. He really doesn't have much range on any of his ground atttacks either(besides fsmash), so why walk?

Walking is actually a pretty good pressure applier... since you can do anything from it... you can run either direction or jump.. or tilt..

Especially when you have a FAST character that has good combos and kill moves... walking can be used as a huge intimidation factor...so yeah, it has its uses...

buuuuut it's really not necessary. heaven knows Fox can apply pressure without it. lol

^^^This. Keep in mind that Fox is usually played aggresivly so if you start walking during a match your opponent will read you more easily or simply have more time to think. But since his walk speed to dash speed ratio is pretty even, I don't think it really matters.

Fox's walking speed is the second fastest after Marth, however his acceleration is greater than Marth's.

Fox's walking isn't something to laugh at, however he doesn't have much of an ability to take advantage of it like Marth can take advantage of it. But it shouldn't be overlooked.

Walking=brawl wavedash.

The best spacing tool in brawl.
False. the empty SH is for fox.

walking is pretty pointless imo, esp. for fox. You can do all your spacing faster with dashes and jumps. The only thing you might want to approach with, but can't would be the ftilt.

^^^They say that the dash attack is a bad attack. Not really, unless you're hell-bent on comboing. I dash sometimes just to make some room between me and my opponent so that I can blaster spam or simply take a second to think.

Yeah, it's pretty horrid for fox, but walking is a great spacing tool no matter how you look at it.

No advantages whatsoever.

No, walking is too slow. In competitive play you won't have time to walk slowly up to your opponent to space yourself

Lol...

No, don't use it

Rarely. I prefer to foxtrot (screw tripping) and sheild dash.

It depends on your character, walking with falco is amazing.

Walking could be used as a spacer when you trying to egdeguard or any other times when you dont have to react quickly, but then again I edgeguard by Sh Fair as I start falling over egde.

You realize that walking gets used even in competitive melee (something that's far far faster than brawl), right?

I thought of another use: walking > shielding against projectiles

Walk is boring. Just Short Hop forever. And Shine Stall of no reason. Makes Fox look sexy.

In all seriousness. Walking is cool and all but I prefer to just SH around and SHDL and Laser Cancel towards my opponent.

^^^ Then what does it look like?

When I have time, I prefer to short hop laser across stage surfaces. It looks so funny too becuase they try so hard to hit you but Fox just moves so **** fast.

Shield against projectiles? Doesn't fox have a reflector that can be easily accessed by hitting down b?

Walking isn't used in huge gaps. It's the little steps and slides that make walking useful.
