How do you guys get around this? Every time a Mario or Squirtle hit me while I'm trying to recover, my PKT aim is way off, and I die.

You cant let them do that Starf-*is shot*
Seriously, there's not much to do other than avoid being in their aim completely. You should only use PKT2 when necessary. I dunno what else to tell you because water does suck, but I dont play many Marios and PTs.

Recover lower don't go from the side. Choose stages with water such as Pirate ship or Isle Defino.

Thats about all I can say.

Don't do it so late that you miss grabbing the ledge. Other than that, that's how I would've said it.

Yeah, except if you're doing WiFi it won't always go with the stage you choose.

I'm kind of wondering how you're getting hit by the water. If you're knocked high in the air and you're returning, easy recovery. If you're down in the middle I say continue going lower and use your PKT2 to return assuming you're on a stage with two gapping holes on each side. I've surprisingly returned before when I got hit by the water. <_< Seriously, why did they give Mario that stupid thing? It's like they want him to be defensive. "I got a cape that can turn things around! But now I got my F.L.U.D.D. to push people away!"

I geuss for stages like final D you could practice doing a vertical PKT2 from a lower angle to avoid any shenanigans like water(pretty much elaborating on what ref said).
