ZOMG. I found out HOW!

You do a forward tilt, then WAIT. when mario puts his foot back then spot dodge. Dont buffer anything, becuase you will spotdodge too early.

EDIT. Yout DONT even have to spot dodge, just duck!!

Explain please? What exactly happens when he ducks? Just a slide, or is there more?

If this happens because a move has cancelable frames, does that mean that stuff like Falco/Snake/Shiek's dash attacks could be canceled into a dodge??

That would be enormous.

I think you may be right about the move-cancelling thing. But why does it only happen with certain moves/actions? What is so great about snake/falco/wario's usmashes that gives them the ability to cancel dash attacks?
Yeah, that's the million dollar question. I've been able to cancel Mario's dash attack with a usmash, although it is much less obvious. My hypothesis is that it doesn't vary by character, but the momentum of Snake's dash attack makes it much more obvious for him (and the timing is probably more difficult for Mario. I still can't do it consistently).

I don't know why we can cancel with a usmash, but not (say) a jump or shield, or even grab.

Anyway, it looks like this isn't any sort of animation canceling, but just an interesting property of the forward tilt. Shame, I was hoping that we could do it on command, sort of like a wavedash.

Yea, seem to be right. Ive done it about three times but not consistently. I dont know if u could do it with every character but it looks like its not going to be as groundbreaking as a new wavedash :(

Hah, JK, I wanted to see how high the kirby mains jumped out of their pants.
lol Immediately went to training mode with kirby. Coincidently tho, kirby does slide a little bit if u up B and and push over while he's still on the ground. Has no purpose what so ever tho.

It looks like he used forward smash, which makes mario move forward, and then sidestep dodged before the forward smash animation was over, and forward smash moves you back a little bit when its over...

It really isn't that deep. It's identical to Peach's D-Tilt Glide. I just did some testing and Mario's F-Tilt does in fact have IASA frames on it just like Peach's D-Tilt. Thus you can cancel it into any action while carrying the momentum from F-Tilt.

Soo... Debunked as our Messiah?
It doesn't travel as far as peach's either, so I don't see myself using it in play.
Fox can do it, but he moves about the length of a foot so its useless to him.
I still have some testing to do though, so we can't lose hope yet.

If it's only possible from a tilt and only works backwards, I see little offensive use for it, and since it only works AFTER an attack, also very little mixup use.

It's an interesting physical phenomenon, though.

Well two good things came out of this discovery, one is that mario got a new tech i guess... and that there's still bugs in the game mechanics that we have yet to uncover. So to all the tech hopefuls hand in there :p
