I was playing a friend for the first time today, and it was 1 v 1, and even when there were no items on screen, the lag was the worst I've ever experienced. It's impossible to fight to my full potential with the horrendous lag. does anyone know a good technique that i could use to lower the lag?

Same. I attempted to play online for the first time last night, and it was horrendous. I was trying to anticipate everything the whole time just to hit the other players, then I just left in frustration. Help!

I pretty sure they'll tone up the lag issues as the game progresses. It happens, guess you're just gonna have to deal with it now, which sucks.

Yeah I have called big N support, basicaly it boils down to the fact that the game sold so well and so many people are bombarding their servers to play that all the ports are taken up and its laging their servers down. We will just have to wait I am affraid.

Just wait until nintendo fixes this problem or fight somone in your state. This kind of lag hurts bad, I lost my first smash brawl rankings match yesterday because of how bad the lag was.

my lag is not 'too' bad, and after several matches you can get pretty accustomed to the lag that is there. Me and my smash crew have gotten through it and have had some pretty epic online battles

To lower the lag try not doing anything else with your internet, but I do understand some of my friends that are total noobs can beat me just because they have faster internet. Sometimes I will just see the screen freeze and the next thing I know, I'm dead.

ok, Slightly off topic here, but when you add someone, does it take a day or so for it to work?
Because i went to school, traded some friend codes, and both of us add them the same nite. however, it will always say "Awaiting Registration" for like a day before im able to fight those people. Is it just me?

It happened to me once, it might be the saturated servers stuff posted on the previous page. It should be within minutes.

Wait, doesn't the lag affect the players at the same time, regardless on whether or not one has a faster connection?

Doesn't bad connection for one = lag for both?

Anyways I REALLLY need a solution for lag, someone needs to make a completation of lag solutions!

It's the same situation for me. We'll completely freeze up and one of us would just end up quitting a match.
Does the delay in button response time have anything to do with the lag? I'd really like that to be fixed.

READ THIS POST

For starters, you AND your friend will BOTH need to be online AT THE SAME TIME for the "Awaiting Registration" message to go away. It IS NOT like the System Code.

As for the LAG issues. First and foremost, I would recommend getting a net adapter if your Wii is close enough to your Router.

Secondly, Nintendos servers are BOGGED DOWN worse than you can possibly imagine. Give them TIME (as in MORE THAN A FEW WEEKS) to upgrade and expand. Xbox Live was ENTIRELY DOWN for a time after Christmas because of new connections. WiFi hasn't gone down ONCE.

tl;dr

Get on at the same time as your friend.
Be patient.

I thought I remembered reading that the games were not hosted on big N's servers, that it was more like p2p with the host having a "host advantage"? Maybe that was not correct.

I really hope they get it fixed as well, for online play I'm actually going back to SSB64 on Emularena, hah where the gameplay is silky smooth.

I'm pretty sure there is no host advantage. I tested it a couple of minutes ago.

I started a game and then had one of my friends join. While we were playing I kept talking to him over the phone. I told him to tell me every time he got lag, it was at the exactly at the same time as me.
