whats wroung with smash balls?

Why do people hate smash balls?
i can understand why u shouldent use them in tornys , but they are good for fun.
i whant to know if you agree.

Lucas.

Lucas is what's wrong with Smash Balls.

Lucas and Snake.

I play both of these characters, and it's no fun when a smash ball appears, because it takes fun away from the game as I'm not actually playing when I get the balls.

It's not fair because they have such an easy time getting it (let others weaken it, then get it with a guided projectile), and their final smashes are normally free kills.

I also find it takes away from the game, because I HAVE to get it, as if my opponent gets it I will most likely die. There is NO WAY to avoid someone losing a life that they didn't actually beat the enemy up to earn.

Maybe it's just me, but that's no fun in my opinion.

Some people like randomness and chaos. Others do not, not even for fun. I'll play with them (and other items) on if I'm at a gaming- or anime convention and people want them on. I wouldn't voluntarily put them on, though because I just don't like them.

And why do we need yet another thread about this? It's all pretty obvious. Some people like them, others do not. And who really cares unless someone's trying to dictate how others should play?

I love smash balls, I think they are one of the most unique and involved items in the game; however, they hold no place at tournaments.

I actually like smash balls, adds some fun to non-serious games

but... I never play with other items, so even with them on low... it's like 3-4 smash ball per match, and it ends like "do damage, wait for FS, kill"

Smash balls are fun, however, tournaments are about pure skill. Thats why they have some stages banned, it adds randomness and slants the game unfairly which could allow a less skillful player to win.

2 examples of why I don't like smashballs in my matches:

1. me and my friends used to enjoy good ol' 4-player FFA, 3 stock matches with smashballs ON...'twas just the beginning of brawl's release and we were still toying around with all the new characters-my friend loves Sonic and decided to main him...
and then the scrub whining came...almost every time-all 3 of us would chase around the smashball to no avail, only to lose it to a floaty hedge hog
and then BAM!!!-it was like 3 free instant kills for Sonic

2. after I was experimenting with some of the characters for a lil' bit I soon got comfortable using Lucario
the same problems arose with Sonic...but worse cuz of stupid comments like "Lucario's so overpowered! He's got a friggin' ka-mayyuh-mayyuh wave!" (and also the occasional "Wow...all you do is counter spam you cheap *****!")
well-all that's in the past and now I'm MUCH happier maining Ike and D3 <3
...and the others still whine and complain

so...in the end-we found out no one was really happy...
not the people getting *****
nor even the people doing the ******

There's nothing wrong with Smash Balls.

I like to play with smash balls during free for all. I wouldn't mind playing with them in 1v1 if they didn't show up like every 30 seconds. Maybe it would be okay if people played with 4 or 5 stock and put in other items like the punching bag so that smash balls don't show up as much.

My group would play with them more often (we currently seldom do) if there was an item frequency setting between 'Low' and 'None'. As it is now, we turn off all the stupid items (curry, deku nut, warp star, food, etc.) and play with frequency on low. If we try to turn on Smash Balls, we usually end up getting far too many in each match because there aren't many other items for the game to spawn instead, and it seems to favour Smash Balls.

Basically, there is a choice between 1) Reasonable Smash Ball spawn rate + lots of other dumb items, or 2) No Smash Balls + reasonable amount of the other non-lame items. We usually choose number two for games with any items on.

I really dont like Smashballs as much as i used to when i first got Brawl. They appear WAY WAY WAY too often even when they're set to low. If they appeared less then i'd use them, but for now, no, they shorten a match too much imo.

I have more fun playing 'competitively' than with smash balls and that stuff on. Because I enjoy skill/strategy based games.

I don't 'hate' them though, I'll be more than willing to play with them in a friendly just for kicks, but they get old real fast.

Personally, I dislike even getting the Smash Ball. I dislike using it, I feel guilty. Do you feel like you've earned the easy kills you get via a Smash Ball? 'Cause I sure don't. Depending on character, situation, level, opponents, and luck, I can get exorbitant amounts of KOs from a single Smash Ball in certain instances. And for what? Because I happened to beat someone to a floating, shiny ball? 'Cause I happened to be jigglypuff on a small stage and was able to chase it off the level incredibly easily? 'Cause I was Lucas or Snake and hit it with a guided projectile from a safe distance? Because it spawned right in front of me while my opponent was off the stage?

Even if I fought tooth and nail for that Smash Ball, how could any 10 second scramble for a shiny orb possibly merit 4 kills for me, given a small stage and a landmaster? How could that short struggle, no matter how bitter, possibly merit the potential level of destruction I can now reap?

I feel much better, much more assured about myself as a player, much more reasserted of my own abilities, to kill my friends without Smash Balls.

Edit: Just to be clear on my own situation, I frequently play with Smash Balls, and many other items, on. Most of my Casual friends who I play regularly with prefer things that way, and I don't mind enough to argue the point. I have a more Competitive mindset, though, and I have some limited Competitive experience, as well--enough to know which I prefer.

Didn't you know? I'll say it for you. This is a forum, and having different opinion and reading them and DISCUSSING is one of the various point of a forum. This thread is much more needed than that post of yours ever was. Of course we had many discussion already about that, but it doesn't hurt anyone to continue the talk.

I also HATE smash balls. Only liked the concept when I saw Mario's FS the first time. If they all had a powerful but balanced attacked that could be dodged, that doesn't mean the end of everything, but that is scary anyway, that would be fun. Instead, they have some completely sucky idea, some completely stupid FS, and some completely overpowered and boring (the 3 Landmaster mostly).

I don't like them simply because of what they made them, not because of the basic idea.

Agreed. The Smash Ball does limit your skills. I use them for party free for alls, but thats about it.

Maybe it they were balanced.

Some suck, some are amazing. It just isn't balanced out.

When I play DK and ppl put smash balls on I'm not getting it to unleash my FS on them (unless they are bad enough to get trapped), I'm getting it to prevent them from killing me with a superior move.

I love Smashballs, maybe it's because I have such an easy time getting them, even if I don't get them, I love having them on. But if someone wans to play with no smashballs, I'm ok with that.
