Anyone have any idea what the differences between the trial (is this a euphemism for beta?) and the final version of Opera?

really? Everywhere i've read says after June 2007 the DOWNLOAD is 500 points. Not a fee.
From my understanding, if you download it before June 2007, it is free to use forever, unless it is a trial version and you have purchase it for 500 Points after the trial period, which isn't too expensive. It should be coming out by Friday, but like someone said, no official announcement has been made...
I cant freakin update my wii!! Ie been triying all day an so far nothing, its updating now, but the speed is incredibly slow... Im incredibly pissed...
Be patient. Everyone is probably trying to update their Wiis, so the server is probably congested. I'm waiting until tomorrow when traffic dies down a little...

More likely than nothing is different. Trial just implies you can only use it free for a set period and then have to pay for continued use. I'm sure they might have updates to fix and bugs/glitches that will undoubtedly occur...

It's been confirmed for a US release around mid-January and will come with a Remote (with the improved strap, of course) for $49.99. However, I've read that most of the games on it aren't so great, and it plays more like tutorials on how to use the Remote rather than actual games. But for $10 more over the cost of a stand-alone Remote, it's up to you whether you want to buy it or not.

EDIT: Upon further research, the North America release of Wii Play has been pushed to around mid-February. Ah well.

Searching for my own way of the ninja.
So, who here is still annoyed because they still can't get a Wii, even after waiting in line TWICE?

*raises hand*

Now, should there REALLY be shortages as ridiculous as thisespecially when considering that Wiis are much less expensive and complicated to make than PS3s?

Why are there not moe units?
And why did my friend camp out at one only to find out that their newest shipment of Wiis was NOT being sold that day because they were going to hoard them for Christmas to lure customers in in the holiday rush?

If Wiis are readily available after Christmas, I will be both glad that I can finally get one and annoyed that it really WAS a scheme of restricting supply.

A month after launch and lines of 200 are waiting for a huge store that has 20 Wiis?
WTF is going on?

Sorry, I just think Nintendo should be a little more on the ball here, there's about 25% more Wiis right now than there were 360s a year ago, and with such low-tech, this thing should be coming out a bit quicker.

I'm wondering just how long it will take for the supply to catch up.

It was really strange--remember a while back when Reggie said they'd have enough Wiis out that you could just walk into stores and buy them before the year was up?

Well, he DID say that, and funny how just before launch, that changed as Nintendo was all, "Golly gosh, you better run out and get one pre-ordered right now!" not that you could really pre-order them from anywhere ANYWAY.

Yea, I'm a little bitter. After camping out twice so long after launch, you'd think a guy could find one, but one time there's 7 units for a store, and the other time the store was deliberatelty refusing to sell the units they had. A little bogus. I should have one now, but that retailer wouldn't sell their units until Christmas, which is total garbage.

Nintendo recently "announced" that the didn't make the numbers they were expecting. While I understand how you feel I just can't get mad at companies for this kind of thing. It's not like Sony or Nintendo are doing this on purpose.

I have no idea what could be causing this but they should give an explanation.

Should have gotten in line earlier. :)

Sorry. That must piss you off when people say that. I just feel special since I got mine on launch day, and only had to wait in line from 1am to 8. Plus, I had electricity. SSBM for everyone! And come to think of it, it wasn't really that cold.

Don't worry about it too much though, Destiny Smasher. Other than Zelda, there isn't really anything else about the Wii that's an absolute MUST HAVE. And if you're crying yourself to sleep due to the lack of Zelda, just get the GCN version. It got better scores anyway. Trust me, shooting arrows by pointing isn't really that novel.

Plus, it's pretty annoying waiting for all these updates to just get here. And the VC is pretty much barren. By the time you get it, it'll be fully equipped with everything you need.

But maybe I'm just saying this because I already have a Wii. That I love. A lot. *sticks tongue into the SD card slot*

Wow, Destiny Smasher, that's pretty awful. How long did you wait in line for both the times you camped out? That has to be the worst luck ever--standing outside in the cold for a long time, only to find out you're not getting a Wii. :dizzy: Thank God that after camping out for 13 hours, I managed to snag one.

You live in NY, right? If you want to, I could help you try and find one since I live in the city and everything. . .I'm not sure how available Wiis are in general, but if you want me to look, I could (attempt to) buy one for you. Of course, you would have to pay me back. >_>

Destiny Smasher, you can make fun of me if you want because I have to wait til X-mas until I can play with my Wii (wait that didn't come out right). I just got lucky considering there was only 18 Wiis at the Best Buy that I got mine at, and I was like 12th. in line. Then my parents got 2 more Wiis (One for my brother for xmas and one to sell on Ebay. We made $360 out of the one we sold on ebay.)

So far as I can tell, even Nintendo's surprised by the feedback.

Xsyven said:

The reason for this is because that's in comparison to the GC's games. Meaning, compared to all the other GC games, it's a ____whatever it got____. On the Wii, however, if they just gave it a perfect 10, that's like saying that there is NO game that could ever be better then it.

[Edit:]

And I got a HDTV. It's a DLP, 56 inches. It's nice. Now I just gotta find me some component cables, 'cause Zelda looks like ****.

Rawr. Mine's only a 26", and it's a CRT HDTV. But I bought it with the money I earned through sweat and blood, and I like mine, so it's all good. Curiously enough, do you play Smash on your DLP? I've heard that DLP tends to lag pretty severely, making most time-sensitive games unplayable.

And ZOMG, COMPONENT CABLES DON EXITS. They're literally nowhere to be found, anywhere. The only place they have them (as of right now) is Circuit City, but it's 60$, which is way too overpriced. Your best bet is to just buy them online, if you can. Play-Asia (an import store) has cheap 3rd party ones for around $14.99, and first-party Nintendo ones are around $24.99. . .Best Buy/Circuit City/Gamestop are either equally priced or more expensive.

i waited 48 hours ahead of time with my friend for when the wii first launched on 11/19, everyone thought we just missed the camp out for the ps3 but i was 1st online and my friend was second and no one came for over 24 hours after that, sometimes its worth the extra time to have the wii for certain.

I don't think that Nintendo was expecting this much of an uproar about the wii, i'm sure that they were expecting it to be popular but so many people have xbox 360's and the ps3 came out at the same time they deff got it out as soon as they could which is most likely why all they're games and channels that were suppose to be on launch got pushed but i think the whole not saying anything unless its required that you know it motto is working out well for them too, i just hope that they space out the time between Galaxy and Brawl and w/e good games are suppose to come out in 07.

Yeah, I honesty think Nintendo was right about their launch numbers being on target, but there was more demand than expected. So they pumped out lots of Wiis, but now stores are keeping them till Christmas, plus the demand grew again from fanboyism. It's insane, but really not Nin's fault- at least they met their launch goal.

You know it's great you have one when it's over a month after the system comes out and the people at the stores STILL smile in delight and ask you if you really have one.

I got a pre-order...*flees from Destiny Smasher*.

Most of the time a trial version of software means there are limitations, like a limited number of uses, or functions that aren't included.

Since this is before the actual release, I'm sure if they had the actual product finalized they would just start the downloads since there's no point in waiting. On the other hand, it won't be like a beta version, which generally is complete but subject to change due to errors and user feedback. Most likely the 'trial' version won't have any problems, but will include certain key features that haven't yet been implemented. I'm also fairly sure that the trial version will have unlimited usage. Limited usage is an incentive to buy the full version, but if there is no full version, it won't have anything else to download. The only type of limited use there might be is if the trial version support is cancled when the full version is complete.

Also, does anyone have any idea what type of channels Nintendo might release for download through Wii Shop (besides the obvious movie/music channel)? There must be more, since I doubt nintendo would reserve a section of the Wii Shop channel for the download of the internet channel only.

edit: huh, sensai and zink both have exactly 1,298 posts. Your fact of the day has been brought to you by....me! :p

I'm bored.

Knowing Opera, I think "trial" means they disallow downloading all the neat extras, like themes and skins and widgets 'n stuff.

Widgets are little... things. Like really basic games, or puzzles, or a deviantart thing. Little files that function on the desktop.

Woah. That's the Best Buy I waited at.

Sounds like it's the stores that are at fault, not Nintendo.

Everyone wants one for some reason. Even the non-gamers at my school.

I need advice, fast. I'm supposed to bring my Wii to the school Christmas party, but I'm worried that some idiot, there are a few in my school, will do something stupid. The party is tomorrow. If I do bring it, I'm going to either have to carry it around with me or put it somewhere all day. Should I do it or "forget"? I just recieved the request today so they wont blame me for not remembering.

How many people are coming, and do you think you can trust them? If it were me, I'd "Forget", unless I were having the party only with a few people that I knew pretty well (like, say, my School's band). If it's a bunch of random people, I'd not bring it, since the kind of ******* thugs at my school are more likely to steel something valuable than appreciate you bringing it.

No one's going to intentionally do anything bad, but... like I said, some are doofuses.

I expect 30-50 people to be there. It's a small school so I know their characters. They wont damage it on purpose, nor would they steal it.

I'm more concerned with people throwing the controllers and hitting each other with it like a weapon. These people would throw badmitton rackets to hit the birdie. (If someone hit it high in the air, they would toss their racket in the air to intercept it. Idiots. They cost our school a lot of money for this behavior and didn't get punished.) I was talking about a group of 5 people, not the majority.

I personally wouldn't care. If they end up breaking one of your controllers, you get a cool story, and a new Wiimote.

Just make sure that you leave a sign on the Wii that says "Break it, buy it. Be careful, or else. - Love, commonyoshi." ...or whatever the hell your name is.

Yeah, if someone breaks it because they intentionally threw it...get the money. Then find their cell phone or whatever valuable and fragile object they have on them and throw it at them. No one that idiotic should be allowed to handle anything made out of ..hell, they just shouldn't touch anything.

Badminton rackets I can understand, as long as they aren'y bending them out of shape. If you have a good racket(like me) nothing breaks it.

Although, if someone threw it, chances are it won't get damaged. One of my friends was playing Wii Sports, during tennis he got a little too intense, gripped the Wiimote with two hands, and took a huge forward-hand swing, losing the grip of the Wiimote at the same time. It span like a ******** boomerang into the wall, *BOOM*, giving it a nice dent, but the remote was totally unharmed. It worked and looked like nothing ever happened...like always, Nintendo makes hardware that lasts.

If the Wiimote gets "damaged", like slammed into something like my friends, run to it first, don't let anyone touch it, and pretend it's broken. They should all believe you, assuming the impact was convincing enough to break something. You will either a) Get a new Wiimote from the loser that broke it, or b) Get a new Wiimote from the loser that broke it AND still have yours that still works. If you're the only person that has a Wii out of the whole group, they'll assume you have a better understanding of how "fragile" it is, and believe you. I'm gonna try this one day to see if I can get a free Wiimote out of it.

But that's just me...

I almost broke a window with the controller. I was playing baseball and of course had used the reasoning that "I don't need no stinkin' wrist strap", so I swung the controller with one hand. It slipped out of my right hand but I caught it in my left before it hit the window.

That's ninja status.

I've decided not to bring it. Isn't it a shame when the many are punished because of the few? If anyone asks, I'll say that my dad advised against it and they'll respect his decision.

Edit: That's the truth, not an excuse. ^

Ah, ok then. Guess that works too.

Here's a quickie: If I take my Wii to my friend's house who has Wi-fi (cause I don't) and download a couple VC games, would they still be there when I bring it back to my house?

Yep, it's stored to your Wii and can only be played on your Wii. The Wii saves your purchase data so that if you ever decided to delete the VC game, you can re-download it over and over. You can never lose it, unless you format the memory.

I've checked my BestBuy and Circuit City. BB is out of stock (go figure!) and CC just isn't getting them.

I didn't know GameStop locations had them...I guess I'll go check.

As far as I know GameStop won't take the console unless you give them a controller with it. And even then they only give you $20 for it. Trading in games towards new games relies entirely upon if the games you trade in are worth very much or not. Only occasionally do they have a "Trade in 2 get 1 free" deal or something like that.

The only game trades at EB/Gamestop that I know of is the "Trade in two PS3 or Wii games and get one free" deal, but they may have already stopped doing that. As for trading in your Gamecube, they require the system, the power adapter, video cables, and one any-brand controller. They used to have a $25 extra credit coupon too, but I believe they've already expired (but ask anyways) The trade-in credit is based on how much demand there is for the system, so you might only get around $20 or so as Cashed said.

Some Wii-related news:
VC games release list for Christmas Day and New Year's Day. No free VC game, as expected. :(
Cats are Wii-fanboys

For those still looking for a Wii, Toys R Us is confirmed to have more Wiis on sale today, Friday 22nd. This will most likely be your last chance to get one this year. Get there early and bundle up for the weather.

I traded in my Gamecube already-- with a controller, it was twenty bucks. I traded in Zelda:TP too, and that was 30 bucks.

So basically, I traded in my GC for twenty bucks, and they'll sell it for sixty some odd dollars... and I traded in Zelda for 30 bucks... and they'll sell it for 40 some odd dollars. They make me sad.

This is being typed with the Internet Channel. I hope they release a keyboard attachment soon but the built in word finder helps a little. Be sure to zoom in or everything will be blurry. Alright, it's time for sleep. *yawn*

Heh, don't be too diappointed. It can be a chore to type out long responses until a keyboard attachment is made. It takes some time to get used to, but it's pretty nifty to have when you need to check something real quick while gaming but your computer is off. :)

Keep in mind, this is a trial version, so some functions won't be available to use yet.
