Well, think about it. The question was: "What would it be, if not Pokemon?"

And nothing else besides Metroid could really stand up there well enough like Metroid could. Even though Metroid is not as big as Zelda or Mario, it still is a valid contestant that could take the place of Pokemon if Pokemon had to be excluded from the triad of top Nintendo series.

More like Kirby. Pretty sure Kirby trails behind next after LoZ, Pokemon, and Mario in terms of sales and as such- overall success.

Hm, now I am sitting and thinking of which Nintendo franchises I find most entertaining in terms of characters and gameplay. I would favor DK over Metroid or Kirby.

Sort of forgot about DK series- I always just place it under the big, all-consuming Mario Umbrella for some reason.

It, in fact, does have more sales than Kirby as a series.

I know that Mario or Kirby aren't meant to be serious, but DK is just straight up silly. The ending to DKR was just flat out too good.

Donkey Kong was one of the highest selling titles back in the day.

Donkey Kong country was really popular and propelled Donkey Kong games to the highest selling franchise even years after they stopped making the games

yeah, but I disagree with Fuelbi's assertion that Pokemon isn't the big number three in the first place. Pokemon is HUGE. It's been absolutely behemoth franchise since the very first games. That's why I brought up Metroid's relative niche fanbase and less mainstream appeal.

Well yeah, Pokemon has been huge ever since the first games came out. There is no mistake there.

However, I would say Metroid's fanbase is much more stronger than it once was. Especially ever since the release of the Metroid Prime series. I mean, c'mon, there has to be a reason Nintendo advertises Metroid more than other series such as DK or Kirby.

Maybe there is a larger concentration of Metroid fans in my area, who knows. All I know is that I saw way more advertisements for Other M than for Kirby or DK on the TV, internet, and Nintendo Channel.

Or they can be advertising to gain more hype and a bigger audience. Metroid is the most "mature" of the Nintendo franchises after all.

Yup, it's safe to say that Nintendo's "Mii's" have indeed impacted Nintendo as one of it's iconic IP's for this generation, I am sure it will probably also carry on to the Wii-U.

I wonder when the Wii-U will be released? Maybe by the holiday season?

Hm, I will see if the Miis will be able to last in their next reiteration. Wiisports and gang did extremely well, but I do wonder if the Wii U will garner as much of an audience that the Wii did from the "casuals"?

They ought to keep the Miis this next generation. After all, the 3DS is still using Miis, and the game demos found at e3 also featured Miis.

I hate almost anything video game related that attempts to specifically cater to the casual market, and Miis are near the top of my list.

I'm sure there are a few in here that enjoy their Miis, but it's just my opinion so don't take it personally.

I never understood the huge attraction to Miis. It's a terrible character creator with limited options and terrible looking parts to boot. The only way you actually get to do something useful with them is if you play Wii Sports, which is dead inaccurate as well concerning the sensors or if you decide to blow like 40-50$ on games that get boring within he first hour of use like that Wii Resort crap

If anything I like the way the 3DS does Miis though. Sure they're all terrible looking still, but at least now they're useful with the advent of Street Pass and all the mini games on the Mii Plaza

I dunno, even when Nintendo gives you the option of playing as a Mii in their other non casual only related games, like Mario Kart 7, I feel like there's many other more useful characters that I would want to use over my Mii

Yeah I dunno I hate anything having to do with casual play. It's why my friend who owns the Wii as a casual absolutely loves Just Dance 3 on it while I take a look at it and think "What's this terrible piece of crap I'm playing?"

Huh, it looks like they changed date again.
No, the Wii U is coming out at the end of the year which has been announced for some time now.

They want to release it at the end of the year in time for Christmas to help boost sales.

That will be the only benefit to release it during the holidays. I'm fine with that, so long as the hardware is not rushed and has a bunch of bugs in it. Not that it matters for me, since I'm not gonna buy it on release.

At first it was fall, then 2013, and now Christmas.

Actually, releasing it in Christmas is a great idea and it always has been.
If it was released on black Friday, that would work too.

I would never try to buy a console on Black Friday, I don't feel like getting trampled.

Yeah, that'd make you black and blue. :awesome:

I actually want to wait longer than Christmas. Why? I want to make sure the system is fully complete. All good specs. Not a weak one like the Wii was.

It does my heart good seeing all of these developers who had almost nothing to do with Nintendo get excited for the Wii U.

Feels good. I found a new copy of Metroid: Other M for 9 bucks at GameStop.
I'll be playing it later.

It kind of amazes me to see a Nintendo franchise as popular as Metroid sell for such a cheap price when its been out only a couple years. I never thought a metroid game would be that unsuccessful.

Have you played Metroid Other M?
No, I havent but I am a huge Metroid fan and I'm sure its a great game even though it received a lot of bad reviews. It went down in price a lot faster compared to other Nintendo games that's part of the reason I say it was unsuccessful. Although, I guess "unsuccessful" isn't the right word.

A lot of people just didn't like she wasn't as badass as she is normally. And other reasons, I'm sure.

Also, you can find either GCN Metroid Prime for sometimes 5 dollars. And that series was quite successful.

Uh, how can you say you're sure it's a good game if you haven't played it, and all you've heard is bad opinions from others? I don't think this is a bad game personally, but what they did to Samus' character was a travesty.

I'm in the minority in that I thought she was fine in that game. She wasn't far from my interpretation.

That's what happens when you allow the players to define the personality of a character on their own for over 20 years.
