Hey guys, there was a post a while ago recommending the lan connecter to get a better latency, now that the game has been out, is there a noticeable difference between wireless router + the lan connecter? Enough difference to warrant buying a lan connecter?

I might be able to help you fellas out a bit with that, since I currently have an offical(Japanese packaging) USB Lan adaptor.I seen connection differences with the wireless and Lan tho.Even tho its not dramatically different between the two,the Lan has proven to be faster by my standards.Iam not a big techical expert as others on these forums are,but Iam pertty sure theyll tell you that ethernet cords are the best way to go if its an option for you.

From what Ive been told, there are things that can interrupt you connections if you are using wireless.Other electronic devices for example. For more details, just wait around a few hours and Iam sure youll be given a math lesson or two.XD

Ok guys, I am here to settle all the BS that has been posted in these forums concerning this topic. Please don't listen to the other people who have tried to tell you otherwise.

I have an A+ computer technician certification, a Network+ certification, and I am graduating soon with a degree in Computer Science.

There is no noticeable difference between ethernet and Wifi latency.

As long as you are running an 802.11b or 802.11g network and you are within decent range of your router you do not need an ethernet adapter. If you have a first generation 802.11n or pre-N router you may need to get one.

Right now, at this very moment, I am sitting around 500 feet away from my router with 5 walls in-between. I have one 7dbi antenna on the router. If I ping my router 500 times, around 99.5% of the responses are 1ms. The highest one I have in the list was 7ms. These numbers are not even close to being high enough to justify purchasing a $30 device. If you are too far from your router and you get a very poor signal you may want to add an external antenna onto your router (if your router supports it). If not, you can build a small parabolic reflector for your current Wifi antenna out of cardboard and tinfoil that will boost it's directional gain by around 12dB. I am going to put up a guide on Wifiwars.com soon for people who want to get the best performance without getting ripped off.

Apparently there was an update with US Servers and a Wii update to go with it, so unless there's a wii update soon, "with anyone" is out of the picture.

Can still do it with FC's though.

Okay, I need a question answered. I'm using a Wireless-G Broadband router. It's a Linksys. My router is downstairs and my wii is upstairs, so I get a lot of lag when playing ionline. Would one of those wifi adapters be better? If anyone knows what would best suit this type of situation, please tell me.

Ive got a question, how does the Wifi USB Connector compare to a Router and Lan Cable?

(reason I use Wifi USB Connector is coz I have a modem, btw my internet speed is 4mb when I do the online checker)

Ill not refute your opinion because its very clear tht you know what you are saying and i have no idea of this kind of internet issues, but ill comment what i have seen thru my own xperience.

A friend of mine and myself....both use the same internet service and the same speed. He uses wi-fi connection and i use ethernet wired connection.

One day he told me to bring y usb thingy to his house and when we started playing medal of honor, he noticed the diference in the conectivity. There was a slight (but very slight, almost unnoticeable) delay in the lock and the bullet trayectory. Also, in the lobby, where the games are.... i noticed that in his house... most of the games had low ping (well the bars which shows the status of the game were very low) in comparison when i play in my house.

Im very sure that you know you things, but this is what i saw :p

So far i have been very happy with my connectivity. But i also need to say that my friend´s wi-fi connection has been working very well too. The difference in almost unnoticeable.

i would use wireless, thats my connection, but i do see considerable lag when playing strikers online with some people..its almost to the point where i can't play but some people the connection is perfect. just depends on how close you are to people and their connection status

What about the Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Connector? I have no choice but to use it becasue the LAN adapter doesn't work with my DSL modem. I am in the same room as the connector. Would the lag still be bad? I never played a game online so I don't really know.

I am using a Wifi USB connector, And to now, i find a quite satisfying connection. But it's not due to that, the thing is that the USB connector creates an access point so that the wireless signal from my Wii/DS goes through the access point. I have a Broadband connector, highspeed internet. I couldn't tell you the exact speed but I guess if you plan on getting any sort of wi-fi USB connector or wireless based connection that relies on a wired connection then it all depends on the wired connection.

With someone with a similar background I completely agree with Lee's sentiments.Simply put, if you think you notice a difference of less than 1ms, it's all in your head, because there is no ****ing possible way you could.

But what about interference and packet loss? I have played enough online games on my laptop to notice more disconnects and lag spikes while using a wireless connection as opposed to a wired connection. I've also disconnected 2 times playing brawl on wireless so far in the few games I have played online. I'm not 100% sure its due to the wireless, but a wired adapter seems like it would be more reliable.

Yeah...I'm pretty sure my room is ****ty for Wifi interference, except in the back. Getting a lan adapter will help in my case right?

Yo,do you have a wireless router/hub? Cuz if you dont, thats your problem right there. You have to get a router thats connects to your internet in order to get it working(DSL wise) because the Wii LAN adaptor doesnt support PPPoE for most DSL connections(PPPoE a direct connection from your DSL box to your Wii).I had the same problem weeks ago too until I read the Japanese instructions.

http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/systems/wii/en_na/connectingOnline.jsp?entryId=wdRouter More on why your LAN adaptor is not working. So save that extra cash bro.

And are you worrying about electrical noise or proper wire shielding? You're just as likely to have these issues if you have a lot of electrical equipment around your home, but the chance of interference within one's home affecting your connection to the Internet is so unlikely, unless you've got a freakin' cell tower in your home.

As far as packet loss, that's the ISP itself. Packet loss is not the result of a bad wireless connection (not to say it can't be), but usually packet loss is a result of data transmission becoming untranslatable to a network device within the ISP's massive wired network or poor signal strength.

I'd imagine a direct connection with an ethernet cord would work better, if only slightly, because if you're using wireless, there will obviously be other devices in the area using it. For instance, in my house we have a Wii, Xbox 360, two DSes and 4 different laptops that could all be using that one connection at once and interfere. I'm no technical expert, but plugging it in seems like it would help.

I have the LAN adapter, but I have yet to use it since Wifi works. If I have bad connection when I get the game, I'll definitely try the adapter.

Confirmed. Sending missile.
i use wireless and ive never experienced any lag at all when i've played online games such as strikers and medal of honor heroes 2.

The only time ive ever gotten lag is when me and my friend were playing mario strikers charged and it started lagging like crazy and then we quit. but then he called me and told me that his internet was super slow that day even on the computer. so it was his fault and not mine.

So i dont know about lan...but wireless isn't bad at all. Like i said before, ive never experienced lag with my wireless.

Please could someone ask my question whether a Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Connector is just as good as a Wireless Router?

I'm suprised that Wireless Router could just be as fast as the Lan Cable!

Do a speed test on ur wired pc, then one on the wii thru wifi. http://chi.speakeasy.net/
If your wifi is way slower, like 1000 less...then you probably have interference and would benefit from a lan adapter, like in my case.
I don't care how much the dude on the first page thinks he knows, he doesn't live in your house.
Btw my adapter is a datel

Wow thanks for that, I'm using my Wii to browse/type right now (I keep it in my room and am typing w/ a spare usb keyboard attached to it ^^ Its like having 2 computers, except this one can't do tabs)

Anyways.... test says for me
download: 1366kbs
upload: 291kps

I think the Wii's wireless got a bit faster w/ the updates? Am I right or wrong? Well the Wii's Wifi seems very fast for me now, was slow before.

There were no changes after the patch for me. But man tennis, your connection seems very slow. I used to get 2616/472 on my wifi with interference. Now with my adapter its boosted to 3600/650
Do you get the same speed test results on your lan connected pc?
