Your top two mains and why

The topic is self-explanatory. Post your top two mains and why you are choosing them as your mains.

1. Sonic-I grew up with Sonic and he's been my favorite video game character since forever. He's blue, fast as ****, pretty much completely bad-***. If anyone doesn't like the newer Sonic games I'd suggest playing S&K3 and Sonic CD and you'll get a feel for a real Sonic game is. Character wise, his ground speed is unmatched and has good air speed it seems, he's fast and weak. His back throw is awesome visual wise and I think he'll be great once someone finds a way to abuse his speed.

2. Toon Link-I love Wind Waker, it was unbelievable and blew Twilight Princess out of the water. He's light, fast and has some decent projectiles. His down A is seems sickening also. A clone but it's nice to be able to play as Link without using the Abysmal TP model from the most mediocre Zelda since Zelda II.

Waiting for you to slip up.
Wolf: Simply overdue for a while. Should've replaced Falco in the first place!

DK: Has been my main from 64 through Melee.

Zero Suit Samus: The whip... it drives me. She just seems BETTER than Samus!

Diddy: Well, if Donkey's my main, then so will the Chimp Champ!

Seriously, though, he's awesome.

Ike- I played PoR and RD and loved them both, and he's my favorite FE Lord. I play him the best in Brawl so far.

Ness- I love the Mother/Earthbound series and Ness is my best characer on 64 and Melee, and on of my mains still in Brawl.

I don't know who I am maining.

Toon Link is a definite. For numerous reasons:
- Link's been my main since SSB, and Toon Link uses the Boomerang I grew to love (none of this Gale Boomerang crap), he has the Classic Link costume, and I love PH and the Four Swords series.

I plan on playing, also:

Ganondorf - Because I love the heavy/strong variation of Captain Falcon's moves. For some reason he just fits my style far better than Captain Falcon ever did. Played him in Melee.

Zelda (not Sheik) - Because I love the character and I played her in Melee.

Marth - I like his speed and his aerial moves and played him in Melee.

Luigi - He looks a lot more fun and better to play this time around. Also played him in SSB.

Ness or Lucas - Depends on which one I prefer the style of. I always liked Ness, but I like Lucas more. I may play both, but I intend on only playing one.

Pit - Because he looks really fun to play.

Pokemon Trainer - Because he's really unique and I really want to try out his move sets.

Pikmin & Olimar - Same as PT.

However, I may totally drop some characters from that list as I play through them all. I'll still play as them so I can have variety later on.

But I am definitely maining Toon Link and my secondary main will be one of those, while at least 3 of the rest will be commonly used.

Bowser,

I've always liked him, but I never really had the chance to get good with him. This time I'm planning to give him a real chance.

Samus,

Always liked her in all of the previous SSB games and will continue to use her.

Diddy,

From the get go I really scofed at Diddy, but after seeing gameplay videos of him I really like his crazy monkey antics. Will deffinately give him a try.

Dedede,

Another character i was skeptical about, but agian after seeing gameplay I really liked what I saw.

Lucario,

Funny enough Mewtwo was my main in SSBM, and since hes no longer in and Lucario seems to play somewhat similar to him I'll be giving him some time.

I guess 5 characters is a fair amount to invest time into but from these I'll pick my main, or just play all depending.

Ganondorf, because...well, he is the king of all evil and stuff...

Dedede, because he's the REAL hero of the Kirby games (Daaaaamn, Kirby's Dreamland 2 was my greatest Childhood game!) I could never, ever beat Dedede in KD2. Then, 1 year later I picked up the game again and beat him on my first try. O_O

1) King Dedede: Practically my favorite character from Nintendo. One of the first games that I can remember getting was Kirby's Dreamland 2 for the Gameboy. Awesome game, one of my favorites of all time. I got hooked on Kirby's copy ability and remember finally getting to King Dedede and defeating Dark Matter. Always wanted to play as King Dedede...

2) R.O.B.: Fond memories of the game Gyromite. Didn't get the game ironically until way after the NES was dead, but I still used my NES...One day randomly my father bought some game called Gyromite but I couldn't figure out how to work it...I looked it up on the internet and realized I needed a "R.O.B." (Not realizing I could have just used the second controller) I downloaded the
ROM
and it actually allowed me to play the game...I then used it in a sprite comic I made that was bizarre as hell...

3) Diddy Kong: DKC 2 was like my favorite game growing up. I remember when this girl that was like my best friend
(until recently)
got it and brought it over to my house and we played the hell out of that game...

1) Capt. Falcon - Can't beat the KNEE :D Always so amazingly good at brawling, or in melees, hehe.

2) Ike - Got to love his power, that sword cuts through anything, great for those that prefer a different style than Marth

(got the JPN version :D)

1) Mario.

Why? it's always hilarious to humillate someone with your favorite mad drugged italian.

2) Samus.

I grew up playing metroid, it was the first game i played in my life, when i was 2 years old(by the time of course i didn't know what the hell i was doing). I've played all the metroid titles but pinball(...). Besides, who doesn't love Samus.

3) Wolf.

A friend uses fox, i hate fox, time for revenge.

1) Toon Link. TWW is definitely my favorite Zelda, plus TL is quick and light, traits I like in a character. He's just awesome and probably my favorite Nintendo character.

2) Link. TP is definitely my SECOND favorite Zelda. Link is very stylish looking and extremely cool in Brawl. Can't wait to use him.

Link: He was my main in melee and my favorite nintendo character. Plus opposite of OP I liked TP. And thought the only thing better about TWW was the story, and even then the only reason TWW's story was better was because it was the first Zelda that wasn't a direct sequel to actually heavily reference a past game. So I don't want to use Toon Link, even if he's better, he looks dumb to me and his main game was far to easy. Not that any 3d zelda games are hard. But TWW was a joke.

and either

Ike: The game he stars in led me to love the series. Both of the games he's in are amazing, and he was an overall cool character.

Snake: I love MGS and Snake is such a cool character. Personally I never understood how Sonic got so much more popular than snake when snakes games are on a much higher level of quality from every aspect. He's one of my 3 favorite game character, the other two being Link and Dante from Devil May Cry.

Wolf: For starters Wolves are my favorite animal. But I also like Star Fox more than most people ( I enjoyed Assault a lot even though most people hate it) and Wolf is my favorite character from the series.

For my primary main, I'm planning on going with DeDeDe. I've always been partial to slow, heavy, and big characters in fighting games, but I kept my distance from DeDeDe initially because of the reputation of heavier characters in Melee usually losing out smaller, lighter, and faster characters (with a few exceptions, of course). However, my mind was made up after seeing some footage of DeDeDe playing better than I anticipated from videos of the Japanese demo and I haven't looked back on my decision since.

For my secondary, I'm thinking of using the Pokemon Trainer. I always planned on playing around with the Pokemon Trainer due to the interesting character-swapping dynamic, but after seeing video after video of how beastly each Pokemon could be (especially Ivysaur) I decidied to focus on the Pokemon Trainer and make him one of my mains.

But these two might not be my final mains, as I haven't played Brawl and don't know what each character in the game has to offer, but so far I think I'll be satisfied playing with these two.

Kirby: I always loved Kirby games, and he was my total favorite from SSB64. It just felt unique, not only he was the only one with multiple jumps (first glance at the game, so didn't know about Jigg) but I could use some of the best moves in the game just by sucking them. But if felt flawed in Melee, so it's time for revenge.

Metaknight: As a lover of Kirby games, a serie of games where everything is happy and star-like, having something as Metaknight was a surprise, not only because it's the only character that's the same race as Kirby, but he's incredibly badass (in a happy game), which gives him the second stand, unlike DeDeDe.

So yeah, the third one would be DeDeDe.

I still can't fully decide between 5 characters, so I might just alternate a lot...

1. Sheik: My main in Melee who, if the topics on the Sheik board are true, had her deathslap nerfed to high hell...

2. Lucas: I saw some Lucas vids and thought he played a lot better than Ness, so I'm going to try him out and see where it goes from there.

3. Lucario: See Lucas.

4. ZSS: Some people say she plays a bit like Sheik, who was my Melee main, so I might ditch Sheik and use ZSS instead.

5. Wolf: Because I can't let you do that, Star Fox.

In Melee it was Peach and Ganondorf but there are so many interesting characters this time around.

1. Sonic basically same as the OP. My first game system was a Sega Genesis (followed by an NES later) and my first ever game was Sonic Spinball. I was 7, bad at pin ball, sort of new to gaming, but I loved Sonic. I went out and learned everything I could, bought how to draw books, watched the show, bought the other games, and grew up on Sonic the Hedgehog. I was very glad to see him in Brawl. Even if he was garbage I was glad he had made it. When I heard he was actually pretty good. I was even more happy. So Sonic is a must for me. He's got great potential.

2. It'll be really tough but I'll most likely stick with Peach. though I'll be experimenting with everyone. I'm also interested in Wolf (since my brother uses Fox I think the rivalry thing would work well) and many others.

Kirby - He was my main in both SSB and Melee, i've always loved the Kirby games and i still love to play them, and he looks really awesome in Brawl. I was saddened that he was so weak in Melee, but Brawl brought him back and i'm really excited to play as him!

Wario - Wario has been one of my favorite nintendo characters for a while, and his quirky and obscure moveset and personality in Brawl is just too good to pass up. Everything about him is weird and different and i love characters like that. He may not be the brightest bulb, but his strength makes up for it.

Sonic- Just because of his speed, something i wasnt really able to control in Melee with C. Falcon. I think he can be one of the best characters in the game if you learn how to control him.

Lucario- A good pokemon from all the movies i have seen with him. He seems like he is a little bit easy to use so thats why im going to try to main him first.

Sonic - As a Sonic devotee since I was about 7, it's been a dream to play as him in SSBB since Melee came out. Dream comes true, I instantly devote myself to Sonic in the game.

Marth - My old main from SSBM just looks even more badass than last time. Should be awesome to play as him again.

1. Mr. Game & Watch
I like his play style, his moves, his animations, he has to be the best character to humiliate your opponent, he's just awesome.

2. Wolf
Always wanted him in Smash, cool character and has a nice set of moves.

Falco: He has been one of my favorite characters ever since I first played starfox 64, and I like his play style. My main from Melee.

Dedede or Diddy: I like them as characters, but I'm not quite sure I'll like how they'll play so I'm torn.

Pit- Not only was the game was one of my favorites, but I also like his style both in smashing and in appearance. The impressions I've heard/seen are great for my taste as a plus (Great Potential, + Amazing Recovery, Good Techniques .etc) and he defantly seems to be the type of character I will readily enjoy and relate to. I'm looking forward to learning about him and maining him and I also would like to thank those who have provided general information as well as videos about this particular character.

Peach-Peach is probably going to be my second main, due to some of the above reasons as well. Her style seems to be great and improved, and I always enjoyed her over Mario. Her impressions don't disappoint either.

Meta Knight: Kirby has been my main since Smash64, but now that his rival has come out to fruition as a Smash character, I can finally play as him.

Falco: Many players prefer him over Fox skill-wise. Of course, I chose him after unlocking in Melee because he's my favorite character in SF64.

This is hilarious. The title of the thread is "Your top two mains and why", yet a large majority are giving 5-8 characters.

Just pointing that out.

-------

1. Sonic: Because the Sonic the Hedgehog Series and character himself are both two things I grew up with since 1989. Played my first Sonic game in 1994 (Sonic 2) when I was four years old. Sonic is my favorite video game series of all time.

2. Jigglypuff: Because nothing is more fun than wailing on some serious character like Marth or Fox with something that adorable.

wolf: he is my favorite nintendo character on the roster. Starfox is my favorite nintendo series, and wolf is my favorite out of the bunch. It started with Starfox 64, and even though Assault was of questionable quality, i loved the importance and development of Wolf.

Lucario: Mewtwo was my main in melee. Also upon learning more about Lucario back last august, i like the character a lot.

Marth (main): He was my main in Melee and I got to be fairly decent with him. I love how he plays and how quick he is, and it seems he is very similar to his Melee counterpart in Brawl.

Meta Knight (alt): He was originally going to be my main before I knew that Marth was returning. He looks cool, is very fast, can fly, and is a combo machine. What's not to love?

Obviously I can't decide this yet, but I have two in mind that I'll certainly attempt in maining:

Piking and Olimar-I can say that I will main them due to their originality, but pretty much, it's solely due to how much I loved Pikmin. My first GCN game as a lad was one of the more revolutionary at it's time.

What I look forawrds to Pikmin and Olimar in Brawl is the strategic aspect of switching between the Pikmin. Right now, I see Pikmin and Olimar having HUGE success on larger stages so they can gain a fair distance away from the opponent to re-arrange the Pikmin troops.

Second main, Pokemon Trainer-I'll flat out say it. I grew up, loved, and still love Pokemon. When they put in three of the starting Pokemon, at least one of which that should have been in the original Smash Bros instead of a certain pink one, there is no doubt that I would not love it. I would have preferred Pokemon Trainer as an actual character fighting with TMs and HMs and captruing his opponents.

As a Brawl fighter, I'm looking forwards to all three. Squirlte looks like the character that you'd use for combos in mid-match. Ivysaur is looking like the Pokemon I'd start of with. And, of course, Charizard is a great finisher.

Honorable mentions as my mains-Toon Link, Lucas, Sonic

Ike - He's my favorite FE Lord, was awesome in Path of Radiance, and I've wanted him in the game since the game was announced.

Marth - He was my secondary character next to Roy in Melee, and I want to try and actually get good with him.

Well mine Captain Falcon of course, I love his style, in every word, fighting and visual style, and I mained him in Melee, so why not :)...
And second, Ike, I'm the kind of guy who plays Onimusha with the Enryuu (Big Red Fire Sword) and Devil may cry, I like big a$$ heavy swords, and I've seen some vids of him and he just fits in with my likes....

I have no idea. Most likely
1) Marth- I felt safest with this character in melee
2) (Really no idea)- Samus or Link probably.

(Its a shame Ephraim or Hector didnt make it coz if they did I'd main them)
