Rizen, are you sure you two don't have your roles switched? As a Courier, you're the one delivering the mail back and forth xD
And Courier, I can see how doing so much for the community and having them either ignore you or not appreciate what you do - I can see how it would be discouraging.
I go through something similar as a moderator on All is Brawl. Our staff there has been failing; whether by inactivity and loss of interest of the website/and Brawl in general, or one person reporting something that needs to get done to someone else, but no one ever doing anything. Not to mention, corrupt ladder mods who cover up for cheaters in ladder. On top of that, it's almost impossible to get a hold of the site owner, and even the admin. And when I finally managed to do it, and express my concerns/ways to help improve the staff, I was ignored and things kept going the way they were. I have never been distant from that site as I have been for these past couple of months. And a lot of the people there don't really give me any motivation to hang around either, because many are jerks, full of themselves, trolls, etc. I've gotten to the point where I've lost most of my motivation to help the site.
So what do I do? I check the site a couple of times a week, take care of mod duties (if needed), and I chat/play with people I enjoy spending time with. I help Zelda mains improve and try to improve myself (because I've been hella rusty for the past year).I do these things because they still matter to me, despite all the dumb stuff I have to deal with on the site.
What I'm trying to say with all of this is… just do what you enjoy. If you feel like going too far to help and it's not being appreciated, then pull back and stick to simply having fun. And when you are being recognized for the things you do, then you can step it up again if you desire to. There are a number of Brawl players that still enjoy playing the game from time to time, and who don't check the forums/websites as frequently as they used to.
As for other games being enjoyable, I can totally agree with that. There are definitely more games to play other than Brawl, and I've been playing a lot of Skyrim lately myself, lol. I'm about to finish the Dawnguard plug-in, and then I'll be doing Dragonborn (:
