I do still believe Space Invader and Waluigi would've been equally as good ends to Ultimate as Sora.

Like, I don't think ending with Space Invader would be earned so to speak (Sora was a big fan pick, and ending on one made sense for a game that doubled down on wish fulfillment, SI is more of a history thing), but it'd still be significant to see Space Invader alongside the later generations of Japanese gaming it spurred on, and a choice I don't think many people would want to argue against the importance of even if it's an IP not many people in Smash's current TA are attached to or have memories of.
One of the weirdest takeaways from watching the QuintonReviews Nickcom video essay saga is that there's an episode of Game Shakers that is supposed to be a crossover with iCarly, but they don't actually meet the iCarly characters - they just watch iCarly and then meet Freddy's actor to ask him who his character ended up marrying after the show.

Like, imagine if a SpongeBob episode started with SpongeBob and Patrick commentating over old Rugrats footage, and the bulk of the plot was them going to the surface to ask Kath Soucie what jobs Phil and Lil got as adults.
I'm starting to get the feeling creation thread players do not care much for competitive-legal stages, heh. I mean, I totally understand it, but either way the only competitive stages I can think of that have been actively voted into a thread with other, more casual stages as options in the same vote (as opposed to a job specifically for competitive stages) are Christmas Village and Star Road in SMSB and The Kremlin in the Another Universe thread, and jobs specifically for competitive stages tend to get barely any interaction.

Or maybe I just made the current SMSB stage job overly complex, I dunno.

FazDude FazDude I do get what you're saying - I think the way I worded it makes it seem a bit more complex than it is, (I often try to make sure nothing is misinterpreted in SMSB job listings) so I'll try to shorten it down to layman's terms: "Submit a location and - if you desire - hazards, I'll decide the platform layout from a set list if it wins". Is that easier to understand?

Gotcha; Thanks for the clarification! I'll submit a few locations later tonight.

This is a bit of delayed response, but I think it’s just because people generally don’t really care about the layouts of stages in creation threads. Don’t get me wrong, if people like a layout they will probably be more inclined to vote for a particular stage but normally people don’t pay much attention to it and don’t remember layouts from previous stages.
If I was to make a top 50 favourite games list or something to that extent, a majority of the entries would probably be games with one simple mechanic that the game encourages you to push to its limits and use in tandem with different obstacles and hazards without ever truly upgrading your skillset. It'd probably also not have many 3D games, with a majority if not all of the ones listed being Crash titles.
We are submitting locations and optional hazards for competitive legal stages + Penny's Final Smash + segmented items (think Dragoon/Daybreak) + a complex item that we can add more to later like Assist Trophies; Poké Balls; or Smash Balls.
If I had a penny for every time a crossover platform fighter launched without multiple extremely obvious no-brainer character picks, I'd have 4 pennies, which... is a lot actually considering how little history this subgenre has

To be fair most of the snubs have some sort of understandable reason, and the ones that don't probably have one we just don't know about. I also excluded Smash 64 and Multiversus due to their (base in the case of MVS) roster sizes - otherwise Bowser; Peach; Mewtwo; Daffy Duck; Harry Potter; and a second serving of Wario + Banjo would also be here.
I think that regardless of whether they think the misconception is a reason for or against a massive Smash roster purge to make a true gaming history celebration, a lot of Smash fans don't understand that such a game would still have room for deep cuts (in a BCS) considering how many major parts of gaming history have faded into obscurity with the increasingly Americanised nature of internet documentation; declining interest in generations leaving the nostalgia zone; and how many genre innovators are overshadowed by more polished or even outright better releases of a similar type weeks or months later.

And even in the WCS, this is the sort of fandom to use terms like "Call of Duty Soldier" and "GTA Thug" so really any character can be a deep cut to Smash fandom.
I was about to say that I feel Multiversus should've been a Lego game to give it cohesion, but now I think about it I'm not too sure since Lego characters all have the same proportions.

That being said, a customisation-centric Lego platfighter with a ton of licensed IPs who's characters are purely cosmetic and can be applied to any archetype and/or weapon? Bring it on.
The one good thing about "dead game" circlejerk is that it's only relevant to consumers and not the big businesses in charge of a game's fate since they only see the money from initial and DLC purchases and not playerbase size, (at least for premium titles) meaning that future DLC really isn't effected by all the clowning and mockery so long as sales are good.
The Stork is here! Moveset and alt costume subs are on! + music subs for the Airship stage.
I'm watching Quinton Reviews' Victorious video and WOW - I really, REALLY do not like Ariana Grande's character. (Cat) I'm sure Grande is a way better actor that you'd think from this show, but the direction she was given just comes off as grating yet uncomfortable at the same time
A casual stage concept that's been on my mind for a while now. Red platform is soft, black platforms are hard.
I feel the SMSB thread has been really fun because we all have a shared vision. We all know what games we want represented, and we all know what characters fit in or don't.

The closest thing to a worry about overrep/bias we have is I guess either between Wario; DK; and Yoshi, or between WarioWare and Wario Land, and even then I think we've done good on the prior (a little in DK's favour, but DK is a much bigger series than both in terms of popularity and game quantity so it's understandable) so far and it's too early to say if Wario Land will completely overshadowed.
Even though the songs' similarities is probably coincidental, I will probably submit Duel Zone as a song in SMSB if we get a second, more Mario Land 2-adjacent Wario's Castle stage.

now I think about it, shouldn't Meta Crystal return on virtue of being Metal Mario's stage? I've been kinda on-and-off about bringing back Wuhu as well so maybe I'll do a discussion round relating to both stages.
I feel Geno's treatment in Smash, putting aside my biases, is a perfect example of Smash's current lack of direction. If this is a "celebration of gaming history", there is way too much Geno in Smash considering he was prioritised in negotiations over the likes of Tomb Raider; Space Invaders; Hitman; Chrono; Gex; Bubble Bobble; other FF games; e.t.c., but if this is an "ultimate Nintendo fanservice game" there is nowhere near enough Geno and way too much Final Fantasy 7 specifically. Banjo is in an extremely similar situation.

I think a lot of the things I say about Banjo could be misconstrued as me hating Banjo or that he's in Smash - that isn't true, I moreso don't like that Smash is trying to build itself (or at the very least its DLC) up as this meaningful "celebration of gaming" when it passes over the likes of Master Chief and Marcus Fenix in favour of characters from a game that, while important to many people, is really just a drop in the bucket of gaming history

I find it easier to just accept this as regardless of what they’ve said for marketing purposes, Smash Ultimate is really just whatever the Hell Sakurai wanted and could actually get his hands on, barring a few random mandates from Nintendo.

Like I said in that one thread, I just don't think Geno actually did all that well on the ballot. He was popular enough to get noticed by Sakurai to at least get a Mii outfit and spirit...but that's it. In that regard I don't think he's really that special either considering there were plenty of other "smaller" popular characters like Isaac or Krystal that also got the nod in the form of a spirit, assist trophy and/or Mii outfit, and Geno has the extra problem of not even being Nintendo owned. I think Banjo got much better treatment because well, per admitted by Sakurai, he was literally at the top of the ballot results, just behind Sora. I think if Geno really was that popular, they would of put him in as a playable fighter. It's just telling to me that Banjo & Kazooie were the first ever Microsoft owned characters in Smash, whereas Geno was passed over three times by other SE characters (four if you count Sora, even though...you know), and also passed over three times by other Mario characters (Rosalina, Bowser Jr., Piranha Plant).
Here's a mega-list of things I'm salty about from the Infinite Spirit team
    • Generally not informing me of changes made to my Spirits
    • Bumping ? Block and Phantom of the Bwahpera down to Advanced instead of Legend
    • Disregarding Banana and Blinky (Naked) as joke spirits without further elaboration on the doc - they have given their reasons for Banana which I think are understandable, but either way the lack of information on it and Blinky (Naked)'s rejections in the doc is quite bad
    • In general, lacking good detail on the docs over why spirits are rejected - like Wario's Nose listed as being excluded because "nose" and not any actual reason, or the Tiny Warios enhanced form of Tiny Wario's reason for exclusion being "one is enough"
    • Renaming Pac-Dot to "Power Pellet" (a completely different object within the Pac-Man universe) and bumping it up to advanced even though the Spirit battle was supposed to be comically easy in nature
    • Approving Pac-Dot without the Pac-Maze summonable Spirit, as the idea was intended to be that you'd get a ton of the really easy Pac-Dot spirits to summon a Pac-Maze spirit like real Pac-Man
    • Not allowing the Expansion Pack Spirit because non-ROB accessories didn't get spirits in Ultimate - instead of just allowing more accessory spirits so Expansion Pack wouldn't be an outlier
    • Disregarding every change I've proposed for an Ultimate Spirit except for Toadette
    • Not allowing locations as Spirits
    • Not allowing my Typing Adventure and Pokémon Trozei spirits even though other insignificant Pokémon spin offs like Pokémon Cafe Mix were allowed and Tying Adventure is repped with a music track
    • Rejecting the Plok Spirit but keeping the Plok music
    • Qualifying my first 3 Halloween spirits even though I requested them to evaluate the Atari Halloween spirits upon learning of the 3 Spirit maximum
    • Changing the Flicky spirit to a general Animal Friends spirit and removing the classification as being from Flicky instead of Sonic.
    • Rejecting almost every 16-bit spirit that isn't from EarthBound
    • Not allowing the Nitro Squad to be an enhanced form of the Trophy Girls even though there's prescedent for older designs of characters enhancing into the newer redesigns
    • Using fan art for the Fighting Polygon Team on the Wiki instead of the model rips I used in my submission
    • Not allowing the Gex spirit because "stingy Square wouldn't want to acknowledge a dead IP!" even though Geno is in Smash.
One idea from Mario Kart SGP that I love (even though it was partially mine) was having Eggman as DLC without Sonic but following him up with Sonic in the next DLC pack as a cute little "Sonic saves the day!" mini-story arc. In both early SGP and current SMSB I try to consider how the younger and more casual Mario fandom would react to certain choices, and that concept sounds like something that would be super fun for a little kid.
I was looking up the Disney show "Blam!" (basically officially sanctioned and totally X-treme CinemaSins versions of Goofy cartoons) and found this unrelated shirt featuring artwork that I assume crossed the multiversal streams from the "Disney All-Star Brawl" universe
