*facepalm*

The Wii has a Flash drive, which is basically a hard drive without moving parts. Changes this small will be really nothing to memory even on Nintendo's limited 512 MB.

Patches have already been released for past games, such as Metroid Prime 3 and Mario Party 8. Wii Menu 3.2 improved the Wiis ability to update games data, probably for the Wiis ability to now accept DLC for future games like Mario Kart.
Took the words right out of my mouth.

I dont understand. This seems like a very bad practical joke. As Brawl cannot be patched, it seems unlikely for them to release different versions of characters (even though they did in melee) because Wi-Fi would not work correctly, and be very awkward between regions.

sigh can we get proof please can there even be patches seeing as the wii doesn't have a hard drive but proof please thanks

Uhhh what? Do you even have a wii. There have been numerous minor patches to games on the wii. Its called internal flash memory.

Has anyone actually tried playing online games between the US and Japanese versions?

I hate how so many people are getting the game early. It ruins the excitement for the people who arent lucky enough to have it yet.

Am I the only one who has no problems with the VOs?
Other than that It's nice to see there aren't any major differences.

not sure
We got an early release today of the American version today, and we've noticed a few things that have changed.

Falco can no longer Short Hop Double Laser

It still can't be DI'd, or fast fell, but the singular laser will hit the standing target, most of the time. (There's still a bit of timing to be done) His short hop is more along the lines of his melee counter-part now.

Marth's Fair has a bit more lag.

Thank god. Upon landing, Marth's Japanese Fair would **** as it canceled into anything. In his American suits, he seems to have a BIT more lag. Nothing CRAZY, or anything, but enough for him to not be able to grab you after. (At least, most of the time)

Some characters talk in English now!!!

Joke. Albeit, Pit sounds lame now.

I'll update the more we find. ^_^
Thats the biggest thing of crap i have ever heard in my life

What do you mean it "got patched"? It hasn't prompted me to download any patch on the NA version; is this something new from today? I'm stuck at work.

And what do you mean Falco can jump "normally" now? Seriously, can you elaborate on this stuff a little bit? I can't verify anything for another 6-7 hours at least.

Was it your japanese version that got patched? This is madness!
No, this is BRAWLLLLLLLLLLLLL!
Check DDD's "infinite" throw and Fox's shine on wall deal. Post a vid if you can.

Nice, if this is true they could focus on improving Tether Recover mechanics to be less susceptible to edgeguarding.

I would like to hear what you have to say when you get home today.

Also, Marth nerf sucks.

I'm curious too. Why would a patch come out before the game is officially released?

The NA copy we had was a beta version. Granted, it took forever too get. When we put it on an online-enabled wii, it patched.

The game corrects itself via whoever is hosting (that is the theory, anyways).

Don't go nuts.

This actually isn't that uncommon; I've seen it before. Some games that tend to have a central online presence generally do this - for instance World of Warcraft had two patches up and waiting for players before retail copies hit shelves when it launched.

I just haven't been able to sit down with the NA retail since yesterday morning, so I'm very interested to hear the details. Are you saying the patch that you downloaded made it so that it matched the JP version of Brawl's character stats, basically? Because that does sound pretty odd, considering the NA retail version would have already shipped with those values.

Wow. If this is true, Sakurai's already needlessly stripping characters of their dimensions. I see no reason why Falco's SHDL needed to be axed and Marth's Fair never even got a chance to stand up to time.

They need to get rid of that tripping ****, but instead they nerf Marth's fair which only led to combos at low percents?

Amazing.

Nintendo is ****ing amazing.

But if they can patch the game, that means if people complain loudly enough they could patch out tripping. ;)
