Aye. But, that said, though HAL Laboratory was involved with it, Ghost Trap/Avalanche isn't canon. At one time it was considered such, but that's no longer the case.
Let that sink in for a moment: The game where jerk-Kirby travels across Dream Land being a complete git towards everyone unfortunate enough to meet him, and making the vast majority of his opponents cry, was once considered canonical.
Now, that said, there are some small elements that were retained, which don't conflict with canon and remain a part of it. The Waddle Dee who Kirby meets not too long before yelling at Whispy Woods that he feels like some apple pie, for example, set the tone for all of the speaking roles of Waddle Dees thereafter - both Sailor Waddle Dee and Bandana Waddle Dee followed in his footsteps.
