YOU SAID I COULD STAY UP UNTIL EIGHT, MOMAlso, gb2/bed/ Donkey Kong.
Except when they do, because it's how they play and they don't like the idea of "crazy" level / items on friendlies.Right... only no tourney-goer I know would ever demand other people play like they do.
So? That doesn't mean you have to play with them or like them. Even my casual friends turn off some of the sillier items. Everyone plays how they want, and this whole debate is incredibly tiring.Except when they do, because it's how they play and they don't like the idea of "crazy" level / items on friendlies.
Agreed. I love both sides of the game - When there's a bunch of people over and we're just having fun, all items are on and any level is go... but at the same time, when it's just me and my brother, or certain other 'rivals' of mine, the matches are legitimately more enjoyable without things like items or smash balls. As a middle man in this whole debate, I think you make quite a good little argument. I've seen many anti-tourneytard comics and stories, but the analogies are actually pretty good in this certain comic. Although there is a noticeable lack of wind factor mentioned in the comic, and I think that's about as random as you could have gotten with the Golf route. Oh well, I like the comics that guy does anyway.
It doesn't really matter how solid the argument in the comic is though since this is Smashboards, and you know there is never going to be an intelligent debate over the 'competitive vs casual' debate because there is so much ignorance on both sides most of the time. The only way to win is to not participate.... and I'm pretty much gonna do just that after this post since this is going to be one hell of a circlejerking trainwreck of a thread until some mod decides to lock this thread.
And in the days of Melee, if you don't play with them... then you lose them as fun to play with. Brawl has opened up a lot of options on playing with people who you can agree to play with. But prior to the wifi, one would be out of luck if you didn't want to follow the "tourney" setting all the time. So? That doesn't mean you have to play with them or like them. I'm glad there's someone here who is also remotely intelligent about this whole debate, at least.Agreed. I love both sides of the game - When there's a bunch of people over and we're just having fun, all items are on and any level is go... but at the same time, when it's just me and my brother, or certain other 'rivals' of mine, the matches are legitimately more enjoyable without things like items or smash balls.
It's really a shame that our community's so divided in this way. A handful of extreme individuals (those who demand no items/final destination regardless of the circumstances, and those who cry and blubber incessently when items are even toggled to 'low') have turned the majority of the online smash community against itself, pitted againt each other for no reason because of this silly preference.
You'd figure that our main source of criticism would be from fighting game 'purists', who feel smash bros isn't a legitimate test of skill because it dares to be different. But, nope, it's from each other. : |
W/e, though, nothing I say will change the minds of either campaign. Still, that comic was pretty funny.![]()
I don't think it's making fun of competitive smashers. It's making fun of tourney***s.I dunno if I should laugh or be frustrated at the lack of understanding of the competitive community. Aw, I can do both <3
The whole 'lack of understanding' thing works both ways, actually. From what I've seen on both sides, there just seems to be a whole load of inane propaganda spread about the enemy side and as such, both have begun to develop a seething hatred for each other. There is no longer room for compromise or intelligent debates, only war.I dunno if I should laugh or be frustrated at the lack of understanding of the competitive community. Aw, I can do both <3
I mean... if people don't have fun doing something, they don't have fun. It doesn't matter if it's a setting on smash or croquet. They don't stop having fun just to piss you off.And in the days of Melee, if you don't play with them... then you lose them as fun to play with. Brawl has opened up a lot of options on playing with people who you can agree to play with. But prior to the wifi, one would be out of luck if you didn't want to follow the "tourney" setting all the time.
I mean, heck. I play Pokefloats and Brinstar Depths all the time. If I had three friends who would refuse to play those stages I'd be wounded at both their intolerance to what I enjoy.
yeah they didn't even mention wind factorThat analogy sucked lol.
