obtw, I'll be bringing my cube if needed. I could also somehow manage to bring a portable DVD player, pretty much same as a TV really, but it has a small screen, obviously. Yes? No?

As long as it doesn't lag, works for me. Also, you'll have to show me that model, I always thought portable DVD players couldn't play games because the sockets are "Output" sockets and they have no input sockets. I always wanted to get one for travelling. Better than lugging my TV around.

I just got this by the mail from GW:

"I heard you guys had an awesome turn out before Xmas, that’s great. I wanted to know if you wanted to setup the 18th as an official ranking night for Gamers’ World, we’ll then set up a system so that everyone can view it via the web and then prepare for official tourneys."

Would that be cool with everyone? :D
I don't see why we wouldn't go through with it, but you never know.
I'll reply to him tonight with the general opinion!

mmmm I don't know. If we are doing tournament at bi-weekly we will get less matches and less practice. I'm going to the bi-weekly to get some practice and play montreal smashers. Maybe we could organize a tournament at game world every months between 2 biweekly

Like not two tournaments per months, more like one practice(smashfest) and the other a "real" tournament, so the last one would be a "tournament"

So I say YES start it on the 18th, and then skip on bi-weeklie for it to be friendlies then restart. also when would it start (what time) and will there be doubles too?

The way I see it, these are our options right now:

1. We accept and only use a set amount of TVs for the rankings, leaving some for friendlies.
2. We accept and use all the TVs available for the rankings.
3. We refuse and setup a specific date outside of biweekly schedule for ranking/tournament-only play.
4. We outright refuse to do any rankings/tournaments and concentrate on friendlies all the time.

These are in my personal preference order.
Keep in mind that these are only rankings, I'm sure we'll get to discuss tournaments in detail with him before they happen.

How does rankings work actually? Is it like a tourney or we just play a few matches and try to sort things out.

Are we going to have a skill rating or sumtin like that?

Thar is mah reply.
I think I nailed pretty much everything you guys were concerned about.
Worst case scenario, ThatGuy can ask him directly tomorrow :3

Indeed our pre-xmas biweekly was crowned in success with around 20+ people showing up!
There were even a handful of people who arrived at 16h and there was not even a need to take out my Gamecube from the backstore ;)

To attend the matter at hand: The answer is yes, we would like to host the rankings on the 18th. However, there are some concerns, the main fear being that tournaments/rankings will impede on the "friendly, practice matches" which are essentially what most people pay for. Although we DO desire to have tournaments, it seems the best option would be to use only a select few TVs specifically for Rankings/Tournaments and leave the rest free for friendly matches. If this is a viable option ( as, to be honest, I am not knowledgeable when it comes to the time needed for a ranking/tournament to take place), then it would probably be for the best. There's still time to discuss this, so let me know what you think :)

Furthermore, we are craving for details regarding this whole tournament ordeal, so here's a flood of initial questions! (some of which are rather asking for your personal opinion rather than facts, since there's only so much one can answer ahead :)

- How will the rankings be carried out on the 18th?
- How many biweeklies will the tournament span until its completion?
- How often would Gamer's World hold tournaments like this?
- The two most popular types of matches are 1vs1 and 2vs2, so we were wondering if both types of play would be included, or if it would be concentrated on 1vs1 matches.
- At what time would the activities begin? Will the players need to arrive at a certain time (this is especially aimed at the tournament)?

That pretty much covers it for now!
I'm adding Joel in CC (hopefully that's his real e-mail address, hehe) so we can both be in the loop on the latest development.
Asking for the same information twice is not really optimal :)
He'll be there tomorrow so you can answer all these questions directly with him, too :D
We'll be awaiting your reply!

hum, hey, id like to suggest and see who are favorable for a re-vote of the biweekly days for the winter, as some people like me, have different schedules.

ThatGuy, can you recreate a poll if people express the feel for a re-vote of the biweek day for the winter, so to better adjust to ppls' new winter schedules.

- count me for one vote.
