I see. So playing a 2.6b stage texture on a 3.0 version of PM reverts the Stage ceilings to their 2.6 versions.

It doesn't revert anything... you'll just be playing on the 2.6b version of the stage in 3.0.
Damnit Xeno, now i'm confused.

Lets say Dracula's castle's blastzone ceiling was 10 feet high in 2.6b. Let's say in 3.0 it is 14 feet high. Now, let's say I'm using a 2.6b custom skin on 3.0 Dracula's castle (not the .rel, just the psa file or whatever). How high are my ceilings?

They will always be 10 because you're using the 2.6b version.

The ceilings (as well as camera/collisions/other blast zones) are dependent on the stage's file itself, not the version of P:M you're playing. This is the part that you're misunderstanding.

This also explains why some of your extra stage replacements (page 2 of your Wii) appeared to have unmodified Brawl cameras when I played on them last week >_>

from what I know, Eli personally changed the boundaries of those stages to match the 2.6b boundaries. Although i'm sure he didn't tamper with the Brawl camera which explains why its so weird on Fallville

Idk, but i just realized a new folder labeled "projectm" which im guessing all the new stuff goes in only because looking thru it i see the new characters... So im gonna mess around with that folder and see.

Edit- Ya thats definetely where they go now.

-replace the old camera data file on the temple of time 2.6b version
-save

Is that all there is to it? which files do i need to actually replace and what are they called?
Correct, but make sure you check the changelist, because WarioWare was one of the stages that had other changes made to it (blastzones in this case). So you'd need to replace those as well.

Is there a list of what file is named what inside the actual .pac? I don't think the camera view is just called "camera"....or is it?!

Yes but all stages also received some kind of blastzone modification, so you'll need to export ModelData[100] from the new stages as well.

Quick guide:

  • Download Brawlbox here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/f0yfy4dbbrnz7r6/Brawlbox v0.70.zip
  • Download the stage you wish to port and have the Project M 3.0 counterpart ready.
  • Open the Project M 3.0 stage in Brawlbox. Expand ARC 2. Scroll down until you see STPM data.
  • Right click on it and choose "Export". http://i.imgur.com/Y8Uc4OZ.jpg
  • Right above that (or in some cases a large amount above that), you should find ModelData[100]. Open that up to find StagePosition (or named similarly...sometimes stgposition). Right click on that and Export as well.
  • Now close the PM 3.0 stage file, and open up the 2.6b stage texture. Expand ARC 2 and scroll down to the same place.
  • Right click on STPM and click "Replace". Choose the STPM data you extracted.
  • Do the same for ModelData[100]'s StagePosition
  • Save, and you're done.
  • You can also use Ctrl+E and Ctrl+R to Export and Replace respectively.

Well unfortunately I won't be converting any of mine until the patch comes out. Made me really steamed when 2.6b came out and I had to redo all my stages, textures, and CSPs/BPs all over again. Not gonna make that mistake this time.

The patch should only change Norfair so far. I don't think we have work to do on any other stages or cameras.

I posted this in the social thread, but I figured it'd be quicker to get a response here.

Has anyone tried using the ASL Tool on 3.0 yet? I modified my textures for Battlefield and Final Destination using SeriousPhatage's directions to change the camera so that it's compatible with 3.0.

When I try to load the Stage Select Screen it just freezes. What am I doing wrong?

There's no real "guide" on that because it depends on a case-by-case basis. You basically do the same thing as the quick guide I posted above, exporting out all the models you want and importing them in the right places. The trick is you have to find the right places to put them and that depends on the stage. Also have to make sure your textures are in the right places. Some stages have models that reflect lighting differently, so you'd need to adjust materials accordingly. It's not so easy to explain simply, but if you have a request I could try and fulfill it for you. Maybe I'll try putting Lylat over Wuhu Island or something.

The ASL code is currently broken due to the new filepath. This will be fixed shortly, so promises Dantarion >_>

Well my goal was to put a more neutral background over lylat, I love the stage layout but I can't follow whats going on half the time because of the background nonsense.

I wanted switch it out with this lylats background:

Wait, so your guide was for the raising of the ceilings? What if we just want to change it so the 3.0 camera is compatible?
