@Scatmans
Again, "Toon Link" is just Link.
In an alternate design.
Wasn't saying he was unimportant, but that one design of Link isn't any more important than another, rendering the "way more important" bull**** from Diddy void.
To weigh the importance of a specific design separately from the overall core of the character is eyebrow-raising. It'd be like weighing the importance of "WarioWare Wario" and "Overalls Wario" on their own merits rather than on Wario's as a whole.
So essentially, the argument is "Link is more important than Dr. Mario", which is obvious. Link is the hero of a long running franchise. Dr. Mario is the protagonist of a sub-franchise that is nowhere near as expansive.
.....so you might be asking, "But wait a minute, Golden....isn't Dr. Mario also just Mario in another design?"
And if the case was the same as Toon Link and my Wario example, you'd be right.
However, this opens up another can of worms.
Dr. Mario is a separate identity.
Much like Sheik is a separate identity to Zelda while still being Zelda, Dr. Mario is the same for Mario. Or for a more in-house example, Mr. L to Luigi.
He is Mario's medical alter-ego from his own series (which may or may not have its own canon separate from the "normal" Mario canon) who is diligently working night and day to develop a cure for the common cold and tending to the ill as opposed to going off on adventures, playing sports, hosting parties, go-karting, etc.
In comparison "Toon" Link is Link but in his carTOONish design. Zero Suit Samus is Samus without her Power Suit. "Overalls Wario" is Wario wearing his overalls. And so on and so forth.
Does that make sense?
