The Problem with Brawl Rules NOW...
your right Ron...Let's take it back to 2002. The EC had their own set of rules while the WC had their own. We didnt agree with items on while they did. They didnt agree with having every stage on while we did. The rules were completely different and at one point, the EC and the WC came to a compromise and build a set of rules together that I believe they used to run TG and other tournaments up until a certain event changed EVERYTHING.... MLG !
After MLG came about EVERYONE SWORE that those were the 10 COMMANDMENTS OF RULES. THEY WERE WRITTEN IN STONE BY GOD HIMSELF AND THERE'S NO WAY YOU COULD GO ANY OTHER WAY.
Now let me explain to you how MLG functions and is always successful. How they got their funds in the beginning is beyond me but how they continue to be very popular in the tournament gaming scene is very simple. Its ingenious actually, what they do is they will throw their first MLG tournament using 2 to 3 competitive games. I cant remember what they were in the beginning HALO, MELEE and 1 other. They'll look at who placed top and high and then they'll approach them w/ a deal. HEY... play for us and we'll pay for you to come to all our tournaments. In return you'll have an opportunity to win money at every event however, you cant keep the entire prize money BUT we'll make the rules the way you guys think will allow you guys to win MORE. The reason they started the whole "NEUTRAL STAGES" (which by the way is silly becuz there's no such thing in SMASH BROS.) is becuz it catered to TOP TIER CHARACTERS. a big reason why characters are in the tier list that they are becuz it is influenced by the stages that are allowed in tournament.
Ok now for the APPLICATION .... LET ME THROW A TOURNAMENT and announce a payout that is way to expensive and/or (probably not the case but could work) a payout I CAN'T AFFORD. At the same time let me get BUM,M2K, AZEN, under a contract and in my pocket, where they will get something if they win but NOT the entire payout. I JUST MADE all the money off of entry fee's ON TOP OF part of the pot money becuz 1 of my boys won. Was it only skill that made them win?? ABSOLUTELY NOT...it wuz those B.S. RULES THAT WE MADE THAT WE MADE PPL BELEIVE THAT THEY WERE FAIR IN ORDER TO GET OUR TEAM TO WIN THE TOURNAMENT. And ever since the existence of MLG the rules have not changed at all...instead it has now carried over to BRAWL. And if MLG went ahead and BOUGHT OUT SMASHBOARDS WORLD FORUMS my only guess is that they plan to use the thread to see WHO IS THE BEST IN BRAWL RIGHT NOW and contract them into the MLG TEAM before they announce that they will be including BRAWL into the next season of MLG and the ones to come in the future. But hey who knows...I could be wrong about this.
NOW.... I might get sum sort of message from a MLG/SWF ADMIN AFTER THIS...I understand, but hey..the TRUTH IS THE TRUTH. WHICH IS WHY WE (D.A.) WILL NEVER CONSIDER THOSE TOURNAMENT RULES FAIR and we will NEVER apply them to our tournament. Now I will say it again...with stages aside...i think our rules are extremely fair and if it isnt yet..its on its way to being. There's just that matter of clarifying the rules and updating it before the tournament where ppl can undestand them better. and 2. IF CERTAIN STAGES ARE JUST TO RIDICULOUS after the 1st or 1st few events, I will try to get it banned from our bi-weeklies...it is however a democracy type thing that we have inside D.A. so 1 man cant make a difference. but if you guys are not happy w/ certain stages after the 1st run...we really want feedback from the community so it can be easier for me to convince my D.A. brothers to take off some of the stages.
In the long run these rules won't be D.A.'s rules...it'll be the rules that the ppl want to see PERIOD. We do have a hand in sum of them though regardless if ppl want it in or not (CHAINGRABS, WALL INFINITES). I dont 100% agree with the stages, but I stand by our MOTTO "JUST TRY IT OUT FIRST". Im open minded to any tournament ideas.
I also want to add one more note. I love the fact that NYC is coming back together. This is something D.A. also wants to accomplish. I won't lie...although I believe NJ has the WORST ideology when it comes to this game and competitive atmosphere...they are more united than the NYC community. I want this to change and just from the posts I read on this thread...it looks like its coming together. Philly, Strata, D1... thanks for your support and we hope to see you there. YOUR TOURNAMENT RULES! 1 catch. you have to join the tournament. now it doesnt have to be THIS BI-WEEKLY, but if you do intend to accept my money match you have to let me know ahead of time which bi-weekly your coming too. Im sure your confident as hell you will take my money so technically...if you show up and beat me...but still lose the bi-weekly...you dont lose any money. Im willing to take it to $40 if you want to, but thats as high as I'll go. Let me know.
