Like less skins of playable characters with health bars and something closer to like Robo-Dexo and Mojo Jojo, I’m talking characters or beings that are designed to be boss battles.
So besides Robo-Dex and Mojo, like the new Gumball Guardians boss fight. Yeah, I'd be good for bosses more like them, although Robo-Dex is the best out of them and Joker and Mojo are the worst handled. As for the new boss, there should be a bit more time added to the fight, but it was a fun dual boss and nowhere near as next-to-impossible as Joker's or frustrating as Mojo's.

I think the joker fight is different enough from how he plays that it can be considered a Giga Bowser/Ganon situation. But yeah. I see it.

I’d love it if they did more of them but I understand why they’re spread out a bit. If we had one in every rift we’d have how many bosses by now?

If this game had like Smash style bosses, who do you guys think would be good fits for potential ones?
Honestly I'm just shocked they didn't go for an Aku boss fight when we got Jack. He was one of the only characters I thought could work as a Smash-styled boss lol.

The tricky thing with this is that for a Smash styled boss, it's either going to be an already-playable character in a vehicle (Joker), a repurposed stage hazard (Mojo Jojo), or something that was so big that it would never have made sense as a character to begin with (Robo-Dexo 2000). And the problem there is that...unless I'm blanking on a LOT of potential picks, there aren't really that many that make sense to me? Especially for the latter. Like maybe if we get a Foster's character at some point we could get the Extremeasaur?

I actually think a different boss archetype that would work much better is that of a horde boss. Fighting a whole swarm of gremlins or flying monkeys would make sense since those either already have in-game models, or will soon.

Honestly i completely gave up on them making actual bosses after Robo Dex but the Gumball Guardians proved me wrong.

They seem to be avoiding established characters as bosses to not rule them out as future characters.

Mojo is a special case, i tjink ots because they want to add him in the future so for now he is a sillouette

I mean...we already know NPC appearances don't rule anything out. We have Banana Guard.

People really need to get out of this headspace in general. There has literally never been a game where they said "oh no, this character can't become playable because they're already an NPC." There are countless examples of the opposite.

OK, you know that's not what I meant. And I don't think that's what anyone ever means by it. Yes, those characters got the upgrade, but not in a game where they were already assist trophies. I think in general people view the space between installments as a chance to get the upgrade. But none of Smash 4 or Ultimate's DLC characters were assist trophies previously.

And like... Multiversus is the first game in the series and it's a live service game that they intend to last for years. I don't think it's an apples to apples comparison.

An ounce of critical thinking would lead you to the correct conclusion of "this hasn't happened yet" instead of "this is clearly something that cannot happen because they're against it."

Let this die.

And just because none of Smash's DLC characters have been NPCs in the games they're DLC for doesn't mean other games don't promote NPCs all the time.

Like Android 17 in FighterZ.

Or Tanya in Mortal Kombat X.

Or Banana Guard in the game this thread's supposed to be about.

I think it's more that big bosses take way too much ressources, so where not going to get a lot of them. I think Mojo was special because he could be a boss and a stage hazard in the same time.

The fact that Aku was like the most obvious boss and they didn't bother making him a boss makes me think that they just don't care that much about bosses.

Why does someone on the opposite team leaving in the middle of a ranked set make me lose RP?

In a way, it kind of DID happen for Ultimate.

:ultminmin:ultpyra::ultmythra: were all technically NPCs with their spirit roles. They didn't affect gameplay, but its further proof that NPC roles don't prevent characters from being playable.

This thing prevents them from being playable until it doesn't, basically.

I wonder if they’ll ever revisit some of the “simple” (Uncommon rarity) costume sets that they release for events and add more characters to them. I’d love to see more characters get Circuit Drone skins a couple years from now.

I wouldn't use spirits for anything, personally. They were nothingburger lazy pngs. Assist trophies and Mii Costumes felt more like blatant "consolation prizes" especially post launch in regards to costumes.

Mid event, really wanted to get at least both of the playercards
It's possible that we could get more DotD Coins from the upcoming Halloween event(which is using Currency like the Cybucks and Batman coins), much like how the Cybucks event did have extra Circuit Crew Credits for Circuit Drone skins. That said, we'll have to wait until next week to find out.

Been counting on that, but it'd still be nice if they gave you more than... literally only one to start with.

Here’s some details on the Testing Grounds and shields.

Wow! It looks like they made shields interesting and unique and not just a copy of Smash's... whoulda thunk it

I'm loving the way they look and how they interact. It looks like exactly what I want: more depth to the combat to make it less of a mindless spamfest. Now if only we could get short hopping and more diversity in air and ground speed.

Ugh. Smash-core, very not good addition. Just a worse version of Smash and Rivals blocking down to the visuals. Exactly what I thought it'd be and the demand for universal grabs is already beginning to rise. I still hope they find a middle ground and either make it a mode or perk or something.

Someone in a Discord server I’m in did a comparison of Gizmo’s jump between the video and game and noticed that in one case it appeared to be shorter? Could be a short hop or a stealth season 4 change.

Also I can’t tell but it looks like Fast Falling might be faster? This Nakat Tweet shows stuff off from the video and people on Discord are claiming it looks faster. Of course, it could be a trick of the eye.

It's not, it's compromising this game's identity with the only standout thing for universal shields being "universal shield breakers" which is just a lazy short cut to try and circumvent grabs. I called this, they'll take short cuts and inevitably concede to add universal grabs just like the masses are already demanding if we get shields. As that's what led us to get shields at all, outcry from people who want this game to be a Smash knockoff.

There are four different ways to deal with shield and they've confirmed there will be perks that interact with shields specifically, it's not lazy design just because the shield is a circle.

Armor breaking moves should've had more of an impact but you haven't even gotten a chance to play with them yet. At least wait until the mechanic is introduced and you have time to interact with it before you start getting mad.

Also I don't really know what you expected there's only so many ways to implement a blocking mechanic. They could've made it like Fraymakers I guess but it functions pretty similarly to Smash' s too

Those four different ways were done directly in other plat fighters + Smash or could be covered with shield being a perk ("hit moves that are safe on block" "pressure shield until it runs out"). The exception is universal shield breaker moves, which I covered as just an attempt to workaround grabs. People will want grabs over that, I'm telling you now. It's gonna happen.

You gave your impressions, it's fair I give mine no matter how critical.

The best way to do it for me is by having the inclusion of a shield at all be dependent on the player aka perk shields. Making it a game of choice and counterpicks would be interesting and make perks an actually valuable inclusion to the game. Give it a setback by having it actively remove a couple of options or so (similar to the platform perk) and stuff. Universal shields are gonna split and fracture this playerbase beyond repair which is the last thing MVS needs. It's too divisive.

You two have spent pages arguing this back and forth.
Don't start again for ****s sake.
lmaoooo. It's too easy!!! Sorry- Hahaha.

I really don't think this playerbase is gonna get fractured over one mechanic, man

I've said it for a long time, since the game launched even - this game needs better defensive options because dodging alone is too degenerate when it's super powerful or when it's not often just doesn't work with how stupid the scoop of the game's hitboxes are; a stationary defensive option is kinda the only way they can get around that without reworking the entirety of how hitboxes work (again). Even if you don't agree with it, it's kind of a necessary evil for the sake of making the game a more enjoyable experience for people sick of the spam.

That's why I've been saying that the game itself should've worked on a functional overhaul of the internals rather than port over to a new system during the hiatus. The old engine worked just fine but what was under the hood was the problem

How's everyone making out on ranked? I'm trying to get at least the gold PPG skin but I'm perpetually trapped in silver partially due to how damn bizarre the RP distribution is. It feels like they take away RP just for sneezing. Also I've had numerous partners leave even after winning, which takes RP away from me for some reason.
But also because I keep losing, yes.

The widespread complaints and divisive reception on social media say otherwise. That one mechanic fundamentally changes everything about MVS. A good amount of players plan to leave outright, justifiably so since loads of players spent years committing to MVS and its lack of shields since beta. And I certainly don't plan on taking this game seriously anymore if MVS wants to spend its future copying Smash. It'll become just a novelty to me for its IPs and nothing more.

It makes me very bitter lmao. God forbid the game make a compromise for everyone, instead shoehorn a shield on everybody and alienate lots of people who appreciated MVS for what it is. MVS will go down the NASB2 route where it's too focused on pandering than stand its own. I hate this and what it stands for.

I mean, let's be real here: your first mistake was using social media because hoo boy Twitter is a ****storm about everything lmao

I've always been in the camp that MvS shouldn't be taken seriously. I just don't think it works as a competitive game, and even with the addition of shields I don't think it can be salvaged to be one that is both fun to play and watch. The game bleeds players every day - at this point, changing the core might be the only thing that can inject some more life into it. For the sake of the game, even if you don't agree with it I hope we can at least both agree that we hope it kicks some more life into it. I want the game to succeed, even if I don't take it seriously. Having a casuals-focused platform fighter isn't inherently bad, I just want it to be an experience that I find fun. Character novelty can only last so long.

I think we can both agree that it should have been a buyable product rather than this live service crap though. A lot, if not all, of its problems can be traced back to chasing a trend that they can never hope to fully capitalize on.

It's not just twitter though. Opinions are mixed and divided everywhere in the Multiversus community. As that's what happens when you fundamentally change a game on this scale. I'm being handed a game I never signed up for or wanted after spending years with MVS' concept, it's lowkey a form of punishment lol.

I think the game could've came back if it focused on the core 4: game feel, speed (specifically in fast falling and stuff), bug fixes and balancing. Content too would help. MVS didn't need to be the next big thing but I liked that it was trying to forge its own place. If it plays identically or too similarly to Smash, the vast majority of people have even less reason to put down Smash or Rivals for Multiversus of all things. Most players will refuse to touch MVS no matter what once we get a new Smash game sometime soon.

Maybe being buyable would've helped. It'd make me less worried of MVS disappearing forever at least. But at the same time MVS only gets away with having a tiny inexperienced team because it's free. Nobody would play this nor give it a chance if it's a full priced product.

Shields feel really conceptually weird to me, although there’s some official footage of actual matches using shields on Twitter and it looks a lot better in action than in their long explanation video. I’ll just have to wait until the testing thing starts to give my proper opinions, I guess.
