That's... I dunno what to feel. I expected Fighter Road to be for base characters. With all the expensive effort they've been putting into new characters, around the tier of fighting game DLC, how are they going to make and sustain this game with cash? Characters were one of their biggest and more consistent sources of income even more than skins lmao.

Literally every free to play game makes more than enough money from skins and microtransactions. There was never any reason to have us to pay for them in the first place in my opinion.

You can still spend money to advance the Fighter Road, though. Since you can’t save up fighter currency for characters before they release anymore (since all future fighter road exp you get with all characters unlocked goes into battlepass exp instead,) you’ll have to grind for each new character that releases, encouraging longtime players to spend money if they’re impatient. (This won’t happen for a while since most veterans still have legacy character tickets and/or legacy fighter currency to spend, but it seems to be their plan.)

I know that the devs of Brawl Stars (a mobile game that has a very similar character unlocking method to the one Multiversus is about to have) have said very clearly that they make a lot more income from progression than from cosmetics. However, Brawl Stars brawlers are way more expensive to upgrade than Multiversus characters, so I’m not entirely sure how much it compares.

I haven't seen a single F2P game do what Multiversus is doing especially in regards to its high effort heavily animated roster and movesets. They also pump out way more skins and valuable content consistently than MVS does (with MVS giving some of their best skins away completely for free as soon as they come out). Doesn't seem smart. This reeks of them throwing whatever they can at a wall and hoping it works. I do hope it works out for this game, reminder, WB is very stingy and demanding so PFG's profit quota is less flexible than other F2P games.

It just feels like a last ditch effort without a real plan to get players spending. But whatever, we'll have to see if this new "get a high quality dlc character for FREE!" system is sustainable.

I thiiiiink your extra 1.5 will sit in your inventory until you use it. If legacy fighter currency is a similar value to fighter road exp, it’ll take you half or a quarter of the way to getting another new character and you’ll have to grind fighter road exp to get the rest.
(Although the character you’ll be spending it to work toward might not be one you want, depending on how they’re ordered in the road…)

Wasn't it stated that they're completely removing the currency from the game? I'm not sure if they'll let it sit.

“We’ll be introducing Fighter Road XP, a new type of XP that can be collected by players in matches, special events, or via direct purchase. If a player is really itching to get their hands on a specific character, they can still choose to purchase instantly with remaining Fighter currency or with Gleamium. Keep in mind that fighter currency will no longer be available in-game and can only be used should a player have a leftover surplus of the currency.”

This makes it sound like you can only buy a character outright or not at all with fighter currency, though, so I don’t know if Will ’s last 1.5K will be usable. I apologize for my previous post likely being incorrect.

Use the last five days to bring it up to a useable amount! Leftover event currency! Toasts! Infinite Battle Pass rewards! Mastery ranks!

Come to think of it, what's replacing Fighters Currency in Toasts? If it ends up being Perk Currency I swear to god.
