I mean if it is a new smash, it's not like everything was 100% decided as soon as Sora released, Like the dev team are probably informed of new games and things that would be releasing while the game is actively being developed.

For the next Nintendo Direct, you think it will appear this month or November?
I think we'll technically get one for the Switch 2 before the year is out, though they might not call it one, but otherwise yeah, aside from Prime 4 maybe getting a solo one, I don't expect anything huge until we get Switch 2 news, since I think it was said at one point (don't remember from where) that they were sorta holding off on some titles to bolster the launch window?

Also since people are more open to Gen IX talk now, I'll chime in and say that these are the six to watch out for, imo.

People should keep an eye on Ceruledge in particular. It's kind of the perfect storm of being popular, being heavily marketed, being heavily featured in the Horizons anime as the signature Pokémon of a major character, and being the exact character archetype Sakurai is a noted fan of (his favorite KoF character is Iori, his favorite FE character is Navarre, and he made Meta Knight and Dark Pit lol).

Ceruledge is probably my top pick from the Gen. I like it, Great Tusk, and Lokix about equally but Ceruledge is definitely the most popular of the three. I just bough a figure of it last week at Target on a whim.

I mean, it's nice if it's Smash Bros, but I'd love to see what other kind of game Sakurai can make, as someone who really loves Kirby Air Ride and Kid Icarus Uprising.

Also, I know the initial draft is hinted around 2021 before Sora's release, but considering it's been 3 years and most likely another year or two before this game releases, I don't want to make the assumption that everything past 2022 is off-grounds. And why are people already simplifying the next Smash only to characters? There needs to be more stages for games or series not with a character, like Balloon Fight and Pilotwings. Why can't we get a Advance Wars stage? Or a Custom Robo stage? Or a Famicom Detective Club or Another Code stage? Characters should not be a requirement for a series to get a stage.

I’m still waiting for R.O.B. to get a stage.
But yes, more stages not tied to characters.

I hadn't considered that Ceruledge is like THE perfect Sakurai character. If it was one of the Pokemon showcased to Sakurai, he probably would pick that.

How would it use items without hands though?

Speaking of potential good timing.

Yeah I better not see this guy get cut on any more roster predictions lol.

If it is indeed Smash, this thing was in its drafting stages around the time of his reveal. Tekken 8 was announced a year later, and Bandai Namco is almost 100% guaranteed to be working on the game again. Not to mention the hard part, actually getting him to function in Smash's environment, is already done.

He ain't going anywhere.

It's part Ghost type, the item could easily be lodged through its hand blade which I'm assuming isn't completely solid.

Out of curiosity I looked it up, and while this wasn't what I was looking for, I have come to realize that if Ceruledge (or Armorouge) were added, we'd have yet another Pokémon without their shiny color as a pallet swap because it's so subtle it might as well not exist.

Like, it took me a solid half a minute to spot the difference.

EDIT: However, we'd probably get an Armorouge colored alt, which I suppose is the same idea, but better.

Maybe similar to Mewtwo? Ceruledge does have Poltergeist which attacks by controlling the foe's item, so it's implied Ceruledge has some access to Poltergeist-like powers.

If it's a new Smash, that gives me hope for Raven Beak's chances over Sylux since Dread was released in early 2021. Seems like a good time-frame to be considered for the roster.

Thank the Lord, We starting to make small progress with Speculation beyond the same topic. cough**cough Cuts.

Team Smash or Team Something Else?

Now, on the topic at hand, I'm torn. Very mixed on Sakurai's next Project.

The selfish part of me, the devil on my shoulders really want to be Smash.

Not only a new Smash Brothers would be great but coincides greatly with my top 2 picks (Geno and Shadow). Would be nice to actually look forward for something in life

But near 15 years of nothing but Smash?.... Doesn't feel right. Personally, to be realistic, the next project is most likely something different like Kid Icarus Sequel like he hinted quite a bit or a new IP. Launch Title for the Switch 2.

Then the next project overlap would be Smash 6. Smash Titles, other than Melee which was development hell, never usually releases until 2-3 year of launch anyways. The big major title of 2025 will be the Next 3D Mario with Smash on hold.

Sakurai did say it should be announced soon which makes even more unlikely to be Smash but lines up quite well with Switch 2.

Also where are the leaks for it if it's actually Smash?

So we’re all just agreeing that it’s smash 6?
More like people are speculating(and/or hoping) on whether it's the next Smash Bros and just taking account on what Sakurai has said previously and seeing how it would apply in the scenario that it is Smash Bros. Some of us already acknowledged it may not be Smash Bros and while I'm okay with it being the next Smash, I'd also want something different from Sakurai.

Also if this is Smash, that time frame might mean crazy stocks for Bandana Dee.

Depends on specifics of course but Forgotten Land came out in March 2022 and then became the highest selling game in the Kirby series.
Watch it be someone else.

So that’s 1 yes, two nos and three maybes
It's Smash, it fit the timeline, otherwise Smash 6/7 isn't going to be announced till late 2025 or early 2026 an insane time between most smash games

Thinking about it, I remember seeing a move that could be tweaked to be used as an up special for Heihachi. Looking it up it's called Soaring Anvil Smasher.

It is a jump attack though, and the jump attacks he already had didn't cut it for whatever reason so I'm still a little doubtful. Maybe the extra bit at the end could put it over the edge?

Being fair, Soaring Anvil Smasher is new to Tekken 8, iirc.

Put me in the yes column. I think we were likely to get Smash in the next 2 or so years regardless so the announcement lines up with that. We tend to get Smash games early on in a console’s life. I could see it revealed along with the Switch 2 and released holiday of next year. Still, nothing is certain and it is possible that it’s something else but I’d put my money on Smash if I were a betting man.

This list is missing a very fabulous duck.
