It could happen in the future. Just because something hasn't happened yet doesn't mean it can't or they're heavily aganist it. They just decided to do other crossovers instead, an it's nice to have some variety in crossovers than just fighting games, imo.
That’s exactly how I like to think. Patterns are useful but they’re not really a hard rule. Like you said, just because something hasn’t happened yet doesn’t mean it can’t. As for you Ring Fit comment, I agree there too. However, I think it would be smart to prioritize characters that the fans would be excited to play. We can still have promotional picks too but adding too many would result in a roster not many people are all that excited about. That’s why I tend to prioritize individual characters over game representation. I agree that there’s room for both though.

I just don't buy that in this case. SEGA has done so many crossovers and they did almost make an All-Stars fighting game, which is enough for fans to justify in showing their interest in such a game. And it's not like SEGA is against having their characters fight each other (we see this in both Fighters Megamix and Smash Bros). Plus, like I said, they made so many action games already but they're just not driven to make this one for some reason? I can't accept that.
Well game devs just don't have unlimited resources. And with Sega now having only one active fighting game series, it won't be as easy to make a crossover fighter as it was in 1996.

What if that's not the only company they have that can make a fighting game?

because I know how a creative mind works
That's what it takes to know what goes on at SEGA?

I’m still waiting on another Killer Instinct game. The 2013 was really successful considering the limited budget and there was even a big fan campaign led by MaximillianDood that was even acknowledged by Microsoft but nothing’s come of it so far. Like Guynamednelson said, sometimes the company just doesn’t have the resources and they can’t find a good outside developer for the project.

Yeah, Ring Fit fits the bill the best for that. Honestly, even Astral Chain fits the bill more than FDC does, sales-wise at least and i think Astral Chain even has a rumored sequel too.
Honestly, i don't really see FDC getting a rep, begin an active series doesn't necesarily means it's going to get a playable character.
If i had to pick a FDC rep i would prefer Emio over Ayumi, honestly, he looks more interesting to me,, but i'm not sure if you can make Emio acurate to his game and keep it PG, i haven't played Emio's game, so Ayumi is probably far more likely if they can't.

W Watuna4343 And those franchises you listed that got in sold more than the FDC remake and the Emio game most likely.
But again, sales weren't what determined their inclusion. Given the comment Sakurai said about Shulk's inclusion in Smash 4 and especially if Min-Min got into Smash with that timing (AKA when the future of her franchise was basically crickets), they got in as a push. Astral Chain with a rumored sequel definitely becomes a strong possibility but even with the article posted here a while ago about Nintendo being into FDC's future as a franchise, it all but warrants that we will get at least 1 more game (probably more), just that it won't be that consistent. But a franchise that is well liked by the devs, with a confirmed future and fitting the bill as an in-house new series fits the bill perfectly. Ring Fit again, sold well but is a sequel (or successor, both apply) and from the looks of it has no sequel planned, doesn't exactly offer the most 'new' in terms of IP.

Some even more successful and popular right?
Just MK and AC at this point.

SEGA also stated that this'll be the largest roster in any Sonic racer.
'Every Sonic's ****ty Friend is Here!"

Wake me when Maria is added.

I'm just frustrated how every time I see these new SEGA crossovers, it's always either a racing game, tennis game, party game, puzzle game, or something but it's never a fighting game. I just don't get it. The majority of those characters come from action games, so a fighting game would be like the best genre for them. Yet for some reason, it almost seems like SEGA is trying their best to avoid making that or something.
Because it's way more work!

Unlike a racing game, tennis game, party game, etc., every character in a fighting game needs a unique moveset.

But why they wouldn't want to make that? It doesn't make any sense.
Because they've watched other companies try it and fail?

What about Pokemon? I’m assuming that’s still more popular than Smash too considering all the outside media it gets like anime, a movie, and a ton of merchandise and spinoff games.

I can believe in that in some cases but not all. In the case of SEGA, there was concept art for a game and they have collaborations with other companies. I just doubt finding other developers would be too hard for them.

people loose interest in ideas all the time. sometimes they recycle them in other projects, but the world is full of unmade projects that people never returned to for no reason other than they don't want to
So SEGA has no interest in making game that is very likely to be a success? That's...very awkward.

Because it's way more work!

Unlike a racing game, tennis game, party game, etc., every character in a fighting game needs a unique moveset.
So what? They could pull it off. Besides, for party fighters, their movesets are much smaller compared to traditional fighting games.

Because they've watched other companies try it and fail?
But they're not like those other companies. This is SEGA, a legendary video game company with many accomplishments to back it up. They're one of the few companies that, if done right, could actually match Nintendo's Smash Bros.

The other potential thorn for Ayumi is whether Sakurai still has that desire to add her. We know he wanted to add her back in Melee, but he might not see the moveset potential all these years later. And besides, if a sequel still isn't forthcoming, that could change the equation as well.

Here's the thing. I'm not sure if sales matter on the franchise additions. I mean yes Splatoon especially and Animal Crossing at the time of their inclusions were big but Fire Emblem, Pikmin, Xenoblade Chronicles weren't big cash bags, they were just active franchises with future ahead to them. As for the Wario comparison, yeah I see the point. However again, Wario had multiple games for years to his name by the time he joined. Ring Fit is just one game and even with these sales numbers, we don't know of any plans for a sequel, so it feels for now more of a one-off right now instead of a new, active franchise (not that it can't be that, just that it doesn't quite feel like a new, active franchise)
Ok well... if you're going "well yes Splatoon and AC"... Ring Fit is in that level of sales. Ring Fit has actually sold better than any Splatoon or Animal Crossing game other than NH.

And yes, sales do matter, because they indicate audience size. Smash picks the bigger Nintendo series (of recent success), feasibility willing. That's why we got Fire Emblem, Pikmin, and Xenoblade and not Advance Wars, Custom Robo and Pandora's Tower. Yeah they aren't as big as Mario and Zelda... but we already had those.

And franchises don't need to have a future planned out for them to be added, it's more about having had a recent, notable game. Pikmin didn't get a sequel until eight years after Olimar was decided for Brawl. Little Mac hasn't had anything since he's been added. Sakurai added Palutena and Dark Pit knowing he wasn't going to do more KI. I'm also skeptical he was aware of any plans for ARMS 2 back when Min Min was decided in like 2019 or whatever.

Plus, who's to say there's going to be more FDC? It's not like that game sold great. It would get in based on the recent game(s), not potential future ones.

Lastly... if you sell 15+ million units, there is reason to think the series may continue. Especially since the next system can basically use the exact same setup.

It seems like a bit of an unpopular opinion, but I'm not all that big a fan of Wii Fit Trainer's design, or necessarily the idea of a Ring Fit replacement.

The gimmick of using fitness stretches as moves was fun, but feels kinda worn out and looks a bit weightless in animation to me. I do like healing moves such as Sun Sphere and deep breathing, and like a lot of Smash 4 characters she does have a wide variety of moves with different uses and weird hit boxes that I like. Soccer Ball is one of the most fun projectiles in the game imo

It just kinda feels to me like there's not much more they could do to make her more interesting, and Ring Fit kinda feels like continuing the surprise "betcha didn't think this series would get a rep!" but with people expecting it this time.

Tbf, Ring Fit was certainly popular, so one could easily argue it would be treated more like the average first party than a surprise character like Rob or Ice Climbers, but I digress.

Another thing I think about is that sales don’t necessarily correlate to how much fans liked a character. Ring Fit may have sold so well because it was a fun fitness game but I’m not sure how many people actually care about the trainee as a character. That didn’t stop Wii Fit Trainer from getting in but it’s something to consider. I would imagine that Smash would want to prioritize characters that fans cared about over representing just based on sales alone. I’ve never played the game myself so I could be way off and maybe people do actually care about the trainee as a character.
I agree sales don't inherently translate to demand, but I think that's less of a concern for characters not added specifically because of the fanbase.

I mean, we're not even that game's demographic, really. I don't think they care about what we think on this one. I mean, unless the game was really successful but the MC was somehow universally reviled. That wasn't the case, though. I think most people are just kind of neutral on RFT.

Plus, like WFT, RFT would be added not so much for the character, but for the game.

And if anything, I remember people liked how the fitness game actually seemed more like a game, with characters and a setting and powers and such. Not in a "I gotta get this game!" way, more just a "oh, that's cool" way. But again, we weren't the demo and the character wouldn't be added for us.

That said, I know people did actually like Dragaux as a character.

While sales is undoubtedly a factor that can help a character, ultimately Sakurai is concerned with whether or not he can create a moveset that works in his mind. So if he can make Ayumi and/or Ring Fit Trainee work, it’ll be because he found something that, in his words, dances in his mind (that might’ve been a paraphrase, but the point still stands).

Regarding Ice Climbers and Duck Hunt, their games had no sequels and were dormant for many years, but as we all know, that didn't stop them from coming as fighters in the Super Smash Bros. series. This shows us that it doesn't matter so much whether some series are dormant or not and that all video game characters can have the opportunity to come as newcomers to Super Smash Bros. whether they continue their games or not.

Lucas as well, especially considering that his creator confirmed that there wouldn't be a new entry ever again and his game still hasn't left Japan officially.

Yeah, I admit a lot of it is just a personal preference thing. I just find it hard to get excited for blank slate avatar characters in Smash when there are so many great characters with big personalities out there. I feel like having too many avatars kind of takes away from the crossover appeal to me. There aren’ a whole lot of dream matches for me involving avatar characters. It’s even more prominent when the avatar doesn’t even have a name. Byleth is one thing but a character called “Wii Fit Trainer” or “Ring Fit Trainee” feels even less like a character. I’ve always put characters first beyond game representation but I realize that isn’t the only way to think. If other people would genuinely be excited for these characters, who am I to stop them? People like things for different reasons and that’s cool.

ok let's try and look at this from two different ways.

first of all the creative perspective. a creative person focuses on what they want to make. and what they want to make can change very easily. as people abandon ideas or change them or recycle them all the time. all the reason they need to make something is they want

now the business perspective. businesses are out to make money. they're reasons for making things is they believe they're going to make money out of it. so if they're not making something means they don't think it'll make money. this sort of thinking tends to be averse to risk hence why they focus on making things that are similar to things they have made before. cause they see it as a lessor risk.

They did originally plan for an international release for Mother 3. They just couldn't do it. Playing the game makes it obvious why.

Also Duck Hunt and Ice Climbers got in for the very reason that they're retro characters. That was the point. They're not a good example.

But as I said, Animal Crossing and Splatoon were new and ongoing franchises, hence the biggest reason why they got into the roster. Yes they sold well but out of the franchises that were 'new IPs at the time they were added' they were the only ones that had noteworthy sales.

Pikmin had the 2 games as re-releases on the Wii, it's not like it was forgotten. Olimar is generally a pretty bad example since he was decided for Brawl at like 2006-2007 which is still pretty soon after Pikmin 2 released. And after his inclusion came again, the re-releases to the Wii. Xenoblade was pretty much the same. It only got a 2nd game on the Switch but the first game got re-releases on the Wii U along with X where Shulk didn't appear. It's not like any of the series were big at all at the time that they were added and of course that's not touching Fire Emblem, which was Japan-exclusive until Melee and didn't take off until Awakening. Ayumi/FDC not getting a sequel because it didn't sell great doesn't sound all that realistic when again these franchises got multiple games before taking off and also FDC basically getting its entirety of content in the Switch. And as posted in an article here a while ago as well as an interview with the creator, it certainly feels like the series continuing is the intention, despite it being more niche. FDC definitely qualifies as a Pikmin-esque/Xenoblade-esque new IP for Smash 6.

Kid Icarus and ARMS also most certainly aren't on the same level as Kid Icarus was still very hot back when the characters were added (far more than Ring Fit is now for Smash 6) and it's Sakurai's game so of course he'd want to rep that and ARMS was part of a DLC as it was too late to add it into the game (as let's be real, ARMS would've absolutely been base roster and not DLC if it had the chance thanks to timing). Ring Fit Adventure's 15+ millions sales also would've indicated a sequel like a long time now, yet even now, we don't even have any signs of whether it will continue and it is only 1 game acting as a sequel/successor to an already existing series.

We don't know about that though. What we do know is that she was Japan-exclusive so no one would know her was the reason why she was dismissed. We don't know about moveset potential because basically my logic when it comes to 'moveset potential' is we aren't Sakurai to create the movesets. basically that just because we can't imagine a moveset doesn't mean that Sakurai can't either. I mean he created a moveset for ROB of all people and I doubt there was a soul in the world that would envision that. I don't see how Ayumi would be an issue.

Outside of content, I think the DS is another major reason and especially since it would have been the last published GBA game by Nintendo in the west instead of Red Rescue Team.

I mean I feel like it will because the new Joycons can't really fit into the ring since they're bigger, so Ring Fit might be one of the few games to not be backwards compatible because of hardware.

Even if that wasn't the case, it still outsold three Pokemon games (Let's Go, BDSP, and Legends Arceus), Luigi's Mansion 3, and Splatoon 2, so I really don't see why it wouldn't get a sequel, especially since it actually had a story that could be followed up on.

I really don't get why we would get "signs" of a sequel early either considering it'd come out on a system Nintendo hasn't formally revealed yet and I imagine after Prime 4 Nintendo would rather reveal games closer to their actual release like they have been since.

Ring Fit Adventure 2 feels exactly like the kind of bolder sequel I can imagine Nintendo going in depth on and waiting to generally show off for the Switch 2 at the right time, possibly as early as that April direct. The company has shown a willingness to hold off on certain projects until the next system to not dilute sales and RFA could fit easily into that wheelhouse.

Ah, but consider:
energy feet

The character can do yoga poses and heal itself like WFT, but they can do so much more. I mean, a huge difference is the Ring, which is its own character and can fly around and theoretically attack.

It can shoot beams

It can turn into other stuff like paddles

and wings

and like a two sided bat

and a parachute

it can use wind to draw things in or blow them away

Also RFT can summon energy fists (kinda like Isaac's AT) and an abs shield

Also WFT is big into holding poses, but RFT also has you do a lot of reps, so another idea for a gimmick could be if you get the timing right on doing a successive attack, each rep becomes incrementally stronger until the streak is broken and reset.

I don't even really care that much about RFT, but they're not just another yoga teacher.

Sometimes it's good if a character replaces another if the overall concept of the replacement character is a better one than the previous one. I think Ring Fit Trainer fits that deal.

I also don't think the Wii Fit Trainer would've returned if Ultimate didn't have "Everyone Is Here" as a theme. To be fair, I feel the same way about other characters too.

Which is all just a big guess and since this is SEGA, a company that's known for making strange and awkward decisions, there's really no point in trying to make sense in what they do or don't do. You just have to hear it from themselves.

Besides, SEGA has made fighting games before. And I'm not talking just the traditional 3D fighting games. They also made 3D arena based games with Virtual-On, they made a four-player fighter with Sonic Battle, and probably many more. So this wouldn't be all that risky for them.

Sega can be just as risk averse as any other company. And have been recently.
If you're talking developers, we barely know those other companies, so I wouldn't put SEGA in the place as them.

Why would it very likely succeed? WB just got done failing at it. And they had way bigger IPs than Sega.
WB had an unknown company doing their game whereas SEGA could either collaborate with bigger companies or even do it themselves.

Though in the end, there's no doubt that fans would be more hyped at finally seeing another video game mascot fighter alongside Smash than a company crossover fighter that nobody really asked for.

Wii Fit Trainer will probably return because they are easily one of the simplest characters to animate and model, especially with them not having a gimmick or anything that requires a new model of them.

I do think it's Smash too, as
Who is the most likely character that isn’t discussed much?
Rean Schwarzer from Trails of cold steel.

Not even joking with this one.
Tho the funny thing is that no one can debate that am wrong with this one since no one knows this character here or has played his games lol. And he gets overshadowed by Estelle Bright or Adol from the same company Nihon Falcom but point still stands.

I also feel like Wii Fit Trainer will probably come back because they're pretty emblematic of the Wii itself, Nintendo's most successful console until the Switch came along lol

You could and I'll just remind you of Fighters Megamix. lol

Which is all just a big guess and since this SEGA, a company that's known for making strange and awkward decisions, there's really no point in trying to make sense in what they do or don't do. You just have to hear it from themselves.

Besides, SEGA has made fighting games before. And I'm not talking just the traditional 3D fighting games. They also made 3D arena based games with Virtual-On, they made a four-player fighter with Sonic Battle, and probably many more. So this wouldn't be all that risky for them.
they’ve also been known for milking their biggest successes, look at what they’ve been doing to persona 5. as for guessing, well that’s exactly what your claim the game would likely be a success. and how successful were these unusual fighting games? as far as I’m aware the two sonic fighters aren’t well known outside the fandom and virtua fighter has been dormant for a while.

another question that’s good to ask is are the people who wanted to make this crossover still working at sega? companies don’t stay the same. the people who work for them change and by extension the decision making.

your claim that this would be an instant success that they should be making is just a wild guess

Sonic The Fighters didn't get a console release until years later, so it's no surprise that many people didn't know about that. Fighters Megamix, however, was among one of the best selling games on the Saturn in Japan.

I have no reason to think those people left, nor do I have any reason to think SEGA can't pull it off after everything I've seen from them. So yeah, I'm sticking to that. I don't know what's going on with that company. I can only go by what they put out.

Yeah, I say it's likely to be a success. I never said it was a sure thing.

I have the opposite problem. Almost every licensed anime game that comes out is a fighting game. I’d love to see some more action adventure games based on anime and not just fighting games every time. They do make a ton of sense so I’m glad we get them but it would be nice to have some more variety.

True, like maybe something like a Marvel Rivals hero shooter with anime characters be a good idea. Tho my dream game is a new anime game that plays like Super smash bros but I don’t know how likely that is unfortunately.

A new Ninja Gaiden and Shinobi game coming out this year? This must be The Year of the Ninja! lol

But you know, this kinda got me thinking. While I'll always want Hayabusa in Smash Bros., imagine the Megamix series was on-going (with SEGA characters in general instead of just AM2) and fans would be wanting him in that series too. "Ryu Hayabusa vs Joe Musashi" would be a lot of people's top reasons for that. It'd be so wild!

wasn't the saturn a commercial failure? or am I mixing up sega consoles?
