Doesn't that game still have a fairly small number of (non-moddrd) characters on it's roster?

That might be a good example regardless though. I admittedly forgot about Fraymakers.
The number of playable characters is small but there are over 20 assists from all sorts of games so it's still not too bad size-wise when you factor those.

If we don't get at least one or two Indie fighters in Smash at some point, I'd at least like to see a fighter game that consists and is dedicated to a number of Indie games that were big or even decent hits.

Commander Video, Shantae, Shovel Knight and some of the other protagonists from the other story campaigns in Treasure Trove, Ori and Sein, Dust and Fidget, Freddy and a few other animatronics, at least two Undertale characters, Hat Kid, the Knight, Hornet, Peppino, and Arzette are all characters I think would be great candidates for a fighter game. If not some of them like Shovel Knight or Shantae in Smash itself, then one dedicated to various Indie franchises.

A few of them like Shovel Knight and Ori and Sein have thankfully at least guest starred in a handful of fighter games, but I think a crossover game that's actually dedicated to Indie game franchises as a whole is overdue.
I would be surprised if we dont get at least one indie character at least new game, tbh.

As a fun fact, none of the four Heroes can perform all of the spells, and none of them can even do the instant death ones.

Hero got the Mother treatment of getting stuff from the party members for a more "complete" moveset so Sakurai wasn't even thinking of being accurate when giving them Whack or Thwack.
I don't any of the heroes can learn their up special naturally outside of items.

It would be funny if the game show themed Adventure mode meant all the relevant VG game show hosts popped up: Keaton from Majora's Mask, Swanky Kong from DKC, Quizmo from Paper Mario, InterNed from Super Paper Mario, Mettaton from Undertale, Gruntilda from Banjo Kazzoie, etc

Basically, a big epic drama... that's filled with over the top figures in tacky clothing asking trivia.

Honestly you could make a not entirely bogus argument for MC Ballyhoo...with his game, MP8, being somewhat of a breakout for the MP series beyond the 1-2mil per-game range that a lot of series end up trapped in, which obviously coincided with the mass appeal of MP to rising numbers of casual Wii/DS gamers. MP8 is also still one of the best-selling MP games, with only really the notoriously massive Switch effect able to significantly outdo it. Beyond that, our Ballyboy is fairly prominent in the game and lore, serving as MC, and has a wacky personality and aesthetic that would actually make him a surprisingly great fit for a zanier MP-focused moveset with board game props and minigame references. What can I say...it's not the worst idea out there.

Come to think of it, I think the next Mario Party game should bring this guy back. Possibly with a new voice actor, since they can never seem to work with Scott Burns ever again.

Oh, and maybe the day-and-night system from MP6 could also work.

They should do new hosts in general since I think 8 was the last time.

I think the reason is the decline of completely original characters in spinoffs after that like in Paper Mario.

Which Kirby Hats look closest like the ones of your MWs? Not just the ones in Smash but from Kirby games too.

Hayabusa:

I added Moonja for the mask part.

Yeah, the early 2010s really led to the Mario franchise getting a huge hit in terms of original content and it really sucks...

I think Nintendo needs to lessen their mandates and bring back original characters and content in Mario spin-offs in general.

I saw Cheetahmen being discussed, so how about representation of unlicensed/bootleg video games?
Yeah, most of them were downright awful, some were rom hacks with rushed out sprites plastered in.
Nintendo is never gonna allow any ROM hacks in Smash ever based on how they always stomp on them and their general stances on mods and piracy.

MEGALOVANIA is the closest we'll ever get to that.

The Tengen version of NES Tetris (complete with music) gets added to Smash as a stage with the caveat that it will require a portrait in the corner of the level of Howard Lincoln flipping the game the finger every time you play it.

That's probably not gonna happen for as long as Miyamoto breathes 😔
I mean I'm frankly just happy TTYD got a really good remake at this point, plus Brothership bringing back unique races, which is a nice change from like Paper Jam imo lol

I think it started with the success for the NSMB games which sold very well on their consoles but they generally didn’t introduce notable original characters with Nabbit being the exception.

We don't even know if that will actually be a thing yet.

Sure, the rumors could be true but we could also just be getting a marginally stronger Switch.

It's best to wait for official specs to be shared before treating its comparability with the PS4 Pro as gospel.
We basically do actually. Mario kart 9 alone having like 24 players at the same time proves that the system is decently more powerful than the switch 1. And all the rumors look quite trustworthy this time.

Here's a topic that I don't think is often discussed here:

Which composers would you like to hear do at least one or two remixes for the next Smash game? Here are a couple for me:

Hidenori Shoji
Keiji Yamagishi
Manami Matsumae
Richard Jacques
Jake Kaufman
Tee Lopes
I would like to see Richard Jacques and Tee Lopes do some music next game.

No matter how weak or strong the Switch 2 is, I don't really see the point in the next Smash having more detailed character models than Pyra's anyway. Except during victory animations, the camera is too far away to see just how much more detailed PS4-quality models would be.
I do. Besides is not just about the character models. Stages could look even much better too or the special effects etc. And besides not every model currently is on the level of Pyra’s anyway so at least every model should be up to that quality.

Now that Fates person has been brought up.
Do you guys think Corrin will return in Smash 6?
No. I know that saying that a character has 0% chances to return is frawned upon (especially if it's a 1st party unique character) but Corrin just has so much going against them.

Their game is not the newest FE game anymore, neither is it the most well-sold nor the most well received. When it comes to modern FE games' importance, Fates is clearly the 3rd wheel behind 3H and Awakening. Like even if you want to argue that it has fans and sales, we are still talking about the game that is the most expendable in both fronts post-FE-revival and the least needed one. Corrin is also not the most popular character. Ike, Roy, Lucina and arguably Marth and Chrom all beat them out and some of them even in Smash popularity, so even with Corrin having fans they are still beaten out by other characters. Also we might say that they have a unique moveset but a) every non-clone fighter does and b) it's probably the one that is the least worth keeping around from the other unique movesets; Ike is one of the few heavy swordsmen, Byleth uses a variety of weapons, Robin obviously uses sorcery, Corrin is only more unique than Marth and good luck arguing about cutting Marth in favor of Corrin. And that's without adding a character that even today has haters, nevermind when they released, one that Sakurai himself was hesitant about adding, in a series that he admits has too many reps. Add on top of that that back when Corrin first got added he didn't seem to have that much thought or care to their inclusion. To this day, Fates has no stage and the only song from that game is 'Lost in Thoughts All Alone' that's just bare bones content that comes with Corrin - and might I remind that this inclusion was supposed to be a promotion and it still came with such bare bones in terms of additional content, like compare that with the content 3 Houses came with upon its inclusion as DLC.

So we have a character that is part of a franchise with a lot of reps as noted by the creator himself, who is not the most popular or most important or most unique, from an less noteworthy game of the series, who doesn't seem to have a lot of care in their inclusion and who doesn't have ease of development on their side either. All of these make Corrin absolutely expendable and low priority come next game and I will be genuinely, like truly surprised if they come back.

I'm also kinda hoping they get David Wise to do a Donkey Kong remix for the next Smash game.

Hey, they got Grant Kirkhope to do a Spiral Mountain remix for Banjo-Kazooie, so I don't see why they can't get David.

Smash 4 took 2 years, though.
Smash 4 is 10 years old. It was also being developed on hardware that was significantly less powerful than the Switch 2 presumably is. The hardware was also comparatively underpowered, even for the time.

If Sakurai's current project isn't Smash, then he's either not the director or Smash releases later than it normally does. No idea if that's a hot take, but 2 years is an extremely quick turnaround and that would show in the quantity of content.

"A delayed game is eventually good, a rushed game is bad forever" and all that.
