Not having knoweldge of a character or franchise is completely fine, the problem is people who say "LITERALLY WHO?" to dimiss a character they don't know about, calling a character from Elden Ring and League of Legends a "literal who" in this scenario would be even double stupid because those games are very popular and i'm sure it will happen if they get in, since as Thegameandwatch Thegameandwatch said there were people calling Kazuya one and i even saw people call Sepiroth a literal who.
Also in some cases people know the character, but still use "LITERALLY WHO?" to be obnoxious and toxic, i really dislike the term lol.
Yeah, it is really annoying I agree. I think some people just like to complain and go out of their way to find something to get upset about. It is kind of ridiculous. I’d expect a lot of my most wanted characters would get that reaction if they somehow made it.

A ghost Pokémon would be very cool and there's so many good option. I think realistically, the most likely is probably Gholdengo with how "important" it was for Gen 9 marketing. And I've got to say, I used to not really like Gholdengo but it's design grew into me over time (part of the reason is because you see so much the damn thing in competitive). If I had to choose personally, I'd probably go with Golurk or Gengar.

Speaking of, the unused Pokémon types in Smash right now aside from ghost are ground, dragon, ice, bug and rock. What idea do we have for those type? Baxcalibur could be pretty interesting and would cover dragon and ice. For bug I would go with Scizor.
Fully in agreement for Gengar and Golurk.

As for the unused types ... it would be getting in more on its merits as a general fan-favourite nowadays rather than any relevancy reasons, but Garchomp would be fun to see. Its general body plan lends itself very well to a game like Smash, and even has a Mega for an obvious Final Smash.

I love the headcanon that as soon as Garchomp stopped being top-tier viable in Pokémon, it just found a different game to break the meta of.

I have to admit, getting any other Ghost before the original Ghost, Gengar, would feel a bit off. Though, when it comes to gen 8 reps, Dragapult is probably as good a choice as any. And there's still Decidueye, Mimikyu, and etc. and etc. as possible options. At least all of the not-Gengars have another dimension to them beyond simply "it's a ghost!"

Maybe Rotom? It's become somewhat of a mainstay in recent years, and I'm sure you can make an interesting moveset with all the different forms it has.
**** it, why not? How else will I have an opportunity to play as a lawnmower or refrigerator in Smash?

Are we talking ghosts? I love ghosts!

For Pokemon, there are a lot of options. I'd love to see Gengar since he's got such a fun design and legacy, but I really like those Pokemon with unusual body types as well to the point where I'd almost prefer them. I'm talking Cursola, Chandelure, Gourgeist... maybe Giratina too if you're feeling brave. Seeing any of these guys in action on the battlefield would be a treat.

The only other options for ghost characters I can think of are characters others already brought up like King Boo or Blinky & Co.
Wouldn't mind them at all either.

Pokemon has a great wealth of "surprise character" options, because there's just so darn many, and many of them are decently popular in some form. Jet plane shark dragon? Haunted chandeliers? One of those early-game bugs? Horrific chimeras of resurrected prehistoric life? Ah screw it, why not? I'm sure we can spin something out of 'em

I wanna throw my support behind Gengar as well. Been my favorite Pokemon aside from maybe Ditto since the beginning. In my head, he'd get a chargeable Hypnosis neutral B throwing a snooze like projectile that incapacitates depending on Charge and Percent. Follow with a Dream Eater Down B that heals and only works when used on a Sleeping opponent.

It'd be a bit surprising to get another Gen 1 Pokemon, but I'm down for the devs looking backward instead of forward in this aspect, especially since we'd still probably be getting a more modern mon with them.

Believe it or not, Rotom was strictly a Pokémon for 10 years before it became a recurring accessory. It used to be rare, even!
It was also a fake legendary in Gen 4 since it played the theme while also being obtainable once.

Another example was Zoroark, who was basically a mythical in BW1 since it was only obtainable by events. Could be one reason why it wasn’t as popular as Lucario despite also having a movie.

Well I was hoping you wouldn’t be explaining Pokemon to someone with a Pokemon themed username
In fairness, what I was saying wasn't wrong. But the "believe it or not" part was definitely sarcasm.

I wil admit, I didn't realize what "fogbadge" was in reference to.

Smash fans when they see Rotom turn into Wash Rotom:
Bruh. How did I know this was a jab at competitive meta, yet fail to realize it wasn't for Pokémon?

I'm going to be honest competitive Pokemon is like looking into another world. Somethingsomething Choice Band +252 Drizzle Kyogre something else I don't remember the rest. What is even happening anymore. I feel like I'm watching eldritch dieties converse. I swear, even my programming assignments are easier to decipher than competitive Pokemon discussions.

That's actually a really good idea. We could have a moveset based on inanimate objects with Rotom.

Yeah, we got a "surprise character" out of the Mario series in Ult, so i don't see why we can't get one from Pokemon either eventually. (Unless GF is really restrictive or something).

Even if they add a character with literally 0 requests (as far im aware) prior their adition to the roster they will still find a playerbase of their own through the years they're playable in Smash. I think very few people requested R.O.B before Brawl and he has plenty of people who mains and likes him nowdays. Heck, look at the Ice Climbers, people wanted them back as DLC in Smash 4 and i'm sure very few people requested them before Melee as well.
I mean there are Reindog mains in Multiversus and he's an OC in a game with Bugs Bunny, Batman and Superman.
If they add Zegram Ghart (A character i've seen you request) i'm sure you'll still find plenty of people maining him and you'll see plenty of people with a Zegram profile pic in SmashBoards even if they never played Rogue Galaxy.

We don’t have a monster that feels like he came from a horror work. Tho you could argue that Ridley gets somehow close to that but I mean something more like this. Like the character even in how it moves feels creepy. This is a character from the fighting game Under night in birth that has a pretty cool mod being worked on for smash bros project m.
Pyramid Head. That could be a really good way to have a disturbing horror game character in Smash.

Is there any archetype that doesn’t exist yet or examples of ones not common as you would think?
We don't have a character who can manipulate earth, and I think that’s a shame. Isaac from Golden Sun stands out, but there are some rock/ground type Pokémon who would be a lot of fun too.

I’m a huge Silent Hill fan, and I get that Pyramid Head is the most iconic character, but I hate the idea of them being a full fledged fighter.

This Silent Hill character we deserve.

Just asking, what do you think about Kaos from Skylanders being in Smash Bros? Can act as a summoner and a mage fighter.
Kaos_Promo.jpg
Though, the Skylanders series as a whole is finished years ago....
Just imagine how chaotic (no pun intended) will it be with his voice in the fight.

Huh.....I started to remember him when dusting my Skylanders games and seeing playthroughs. I only played Spyro's Adventure and Giants. I can't start collecting them again for the game's progress......

To truly make his moveset accurate to the source material, you need amiibo to summon people. :4pacman:

Would be pretty cool. I imagine his moveset would be based on Skylanders trap team since that’s the game where he was playable. His moveset could be pretty cool with summoning minions, control of all the 10 elements in Skylanders, and all the projectile weapons he uses plus his final smash being one of his super forms from his boss battles.

Dragapult for Dragon and Ghost, Tyranitar for Rock. Scizor would indeed be a good choice for Bug, but I could also see Kleavor to represent Hisui.

Ice is harder. Baxcalibur is probably the likeliest option, but not the most interesting IMO. Kyurem might be interesting, though it would be pretty large and bulky. Ninetales is pretty popular and is also one of my favorite Pokémon, and I could see Weavile and Abomasnow having unique gameplay.

Garchomp is my first thought for Ground, though I doubt we'd get it unless Cynthia was made playable. One of the Ursaluna would be interesting, with the standard form potentially being a good Hisui rep similar to Kleavor.

I think they could all work. Diablo from the first two games is big and bulky like Bowser. Diablo’s design in 3 is more sleek like Ridley and Diablo looks a lot more humanoid in Diablo 4. I’d say 3 has the coolest and most unique design.
I wonder if they would take inspiration of his HOTS moveset. (I actually dont know very well how he works in there i only played that game for 4 days some years ago lol)

Yeah that would be interesting to see. I think HOTS has both classic Diablo and the Diablo 3 version so they could go with either one.

This is a pretty interesting fan speculation video about what we could expect and hope for regarding the new Chrono Trigger projects celebrating its 30th anniversary. If this person’s sequel story prediction comes true, I think Magus’ chances go way up. I’d definitely be interested in whatever they have planned.

Here’s my dream casting for each major character just for fun:

Marle - Luci Christian
Lucca - Monica Rial
Frog - Todd Haberkorn
Magus - Chris Sabat
Robo - Yuri Lowenthal
Ayla - Erica Mendez

Not sure about Crono because he doesn’t actually speak but I’d imagine he’d still voice grunts similar to Link and Hero.

The problem with Genshin Impact, League of Legends and Overwatch to name a few, is that there are SO MANY characters to choose from as the representative for the home series. Although, Tracer may be the mascot for Overwatch.
I don't see it as a problem, since a lot of these games have a few standout characters. Overwatch has Tracer as you said. Genshin has Aether and Lumine as protagonists, and also highly popular characters like Raiden Shogun. LOL might've been hard to pick from before, but Arcane put Jinx in the spotlight, and I'm pretty sure she was popular even before it.

Yeah, I think Jinx was already one of the most popular champions before Arcane alongside Ahri, Yasuo, and a few others. I’d say that Arcane puts her ahead of everyone else. I also loved Vi in Arcane but I don’t think she was ever as popular in the games. Jinx has the best of both worlds with both LoL and Arcane popularity. She’s also getting a spot in 2XKO which really helps.

Technically, he was also playable in Imaginators, though in-universe that one was a clone of the original.

But yeah, Skylanders is one of my "it'll never happen, but I'd be so happy if it did" picks. BIG fan of those games as a kid, got all the console titles and a bunch of the toys.

Oh it was properly finished? I thought it just kinda died because "Toys to Life".

I personally really liked Spyro's Adventure and Giants, but was turned off from the series's writing in Turbo and Swap Force. I don't like feeling like I'm getting talked down too (for lack of a better term), and I don't really like the Spyro games for the same reason. I don't think the games ever stopped being fun though, and I'd love to see a non-Toys to Life version of it, or something like it.

Re: Skylanders
I am way too old to care about Skylanders lmao. It definitely was this major thing that even affected Nintendo with amiibo, but like... I don't care, man. Always looked like a bog standard action platformer thing with a gimmick to me, which is rich coming from a Nintendo nerd on smashboards but idk even as a preteen I could feel anything when exposed to it.

Re: Jinx

I'm sorry man, but the way people talk about Arcane in Smash is weird to me because everyone for it almost uniamously agree it should be about the anime spinoff's prominence and not the long running PC juggernaut. I probably fully agree with the "don't play league itself" motto but like.... It's a "celebration of gaming", not spinoff animes. Yes that's a marketing term and yes while she's an alternate version of the character Jinx still originated from League, BUT when people actively refuse to play the game she's technically from and only point to an upcoming(!) fighting game for moveset potential it almost borders on wanting a non-videogame character in smash to me.

Like, I don't like LOL (because somebody on the internet said it was toxic and I took that to heart despite playing Valve multiplayer games: :3333333 ) but sidestepping a game that defines a genre and perhaps even a decade of multiplayer gaming in order to focus on a breakout hit in another medium would be really awkward for a crossover that focuses now more than ever on what it's cast mean as video game characters.

I never suggested sidestepping League itself. Jinx has the benefit of being both very popular in League as well as Arcane. Vi is really popular in Arcane but much less so in League. Ahri and Yasuo are really popular in League but don’t have the mass appeal benefit from Arcane. I feel like Jinx offers the best of both worlds. She’s even one of the few champions revealed so far for 2XKO.

I’m one of the people that don’t have much interest in playing purely online competitive games myself but I’m invested in the world and characters. I played through the RPG spinoff, Ruined King, on the Switch and loved it. I also played Legends of Runeterra and really enjoyed that too. I’ll gladly pick up 2XKO if it ever gets a substantial single player story mode. Just because I’m not really into the hardcore competitive nature of MOBAs doesn’t mean I can’t appreciate the characters. I’d love more traditional spinoff games like a Warriors or action RPG like Tales.

As far as not liking a game because of its toxic fanbase, that’s fair but have you seen Smash? I’m not sure we really have any room to talk. For what it’s worth, Arcane’s fanbase actually seems really chill. I follow the Arcane Reddit and the people there are generally very nice and just post a lot of cosplays and character discussion. I feel like the issue is more with the hardcore competitive nature of some games that make some fans act out like that. I had the same experience with WarCraft 3, which is why I have no interest in online gaming. I don’t think it’s really a LoL exclusive issue.
