He would be unique compared to other options but not sure if EarthBound will get a 3rd rep in general.
I thought it was for Thursday, not Wednesday. Especially since NatetheHate, the same one who stuck to the Switch 2 shadowdrop trailer reveal date, has said something appears planned for Thursday, though he's not certain if it will be a Direct.
A bit unrelated, but i could see Lucas staying (well unless there's massive cuts), since he's pretty popular with the Smash fanbase itself, even yeah, i guess Earthbound doesn't really need 2 reps in 2025+, but i think popularity within the smash fandom also matters for certain characters more than people think. That's one of the reasons why i think Piranha Plant is more likely to return than Corrin.
I have learnt to never count anything out. Nintendo did shadow drop the Switch 2 reveal after all. We'll see what happens on Thursday.

There was that Mini Direct that was shadowdropped in March 2020, and frankly if this alleged Direct is focused on Switch 1 games this late I imagine it's a mini.

Huh... I see... But that was also 5 years ago. It's possible they could do it again, but I feel like it being the only case of a shadowdropped Direct in a literal half-decade means we can't take is as gospel
I guess the rumored Kirby Planet Robobot HD and Fire Emblem Genealogy Of The Holy War Remake could be Switch 1 games. And the rest could just be third party. I don't know though cause already Metroid Prime 4 and Pokemon Legends ZA are on Switch 1 and we don't know for sure if either of them are cross console. I know the Switch has a huge player base but it seems like kind of a bad idea to have so many Switch 1 games coming out this year if they want people to buy the Switch 2.
I really wouldn't say Lucas is that popular. He has his fans sure but I'd wager there are far bigger fish than him. Also, elephant in the room - his game is still Japan exclusive - which we know is a dealbreaker for Sakurai. Lucas is unfortunately a very easy cut going forward.
He’s the best base for Vivi mods so I’d like to keep him for that reason even though I don’t have a ton of interest in Earthbound otherwise.
I mean considering they announced the Switch 2 Direct after they showed off the console an unprecedented 3 months before it happens and even gave us the time it starts way early, all I expect to happen soon is Nintendo telling us roughly how long the Direct will be, since announcing it so far ahead of time feels to me like they're focusing it down.

I mean sure, but considering people are gonna be buying a new console and most likely the new Mario Kart as well (since 8 Deluxe sold like crazy), meaning at least a 400 dollar investment, how many of those people are ALSO going to buy a bunch of new ports or a remake as their "backwards compatible" selling point as opposed to any of the other massive-selling already released Switch games they could also use to emphasize the point?
I mean he is the representative of all the Waddle Dees, so I don't think it's super weird or anything tbh?
In my opinion, Banjo is a pretty solid contender for most likely to return.

Sonic, Mega Man and Pac-Man are most likely to return since they are the big gaming characters for their respected company.
Makes sense to me, though I thought it'd be earlier. They probably still have a few Switch games they want to showcase for the rest of the year, and the Switch 2 presentation likely will only feature Switch 2 games (cross-releases and demonstrating upscaled og Switch games aside) for the sake of focus.
There was an earlier claim that MP4 will "blow everything else out of the water" during the Switch 2 showcase. Guess we'll see which one is right. I don't know if it'll blow everything else out of the water, but it at least showing up seems a lot likelier to me than alleging the opposite.

None of those were newcomers to Ultimate.
Obviously I agree on Sephiroth, but I think Kazuya is surprisingly likely to come back, especially if Namco continues being the team helping with Smash.
If we get no new Namco characters sure. If we do get a Namco newcomer, I can see Kazuya getting lower priority. I also think his complexity, adding dev time, conjuncted with his kinda muted reception don't help either.
