Wouldn’t You Like To Know?
The only way I feasibly see a Sony rep is if Sakurai/Nintendo are going for "what's literally the biggest character nobody would expect?" From that angle, mayyyyybe, but it also relies on whether Sony is willing to play ball and Collab on more than a golf game.

NINTENDO! GIVE ME KRATOS AND A SACKBOY MII, AND MY LIFE IS YOURS!
I think Master Chief is definitely on the table at least, call me crazy, but i could even see Chief being the first DLC fighter of Smash 6. Specially If there's cuts, Chief seems like a good way to hype up people who are on the fence.
Good point. While Chief is a lot more expected than he was before, coming swinging straight out the gates with him would be a great way to glue my and many other jaws to the floor for a minute.

Hey, if Sony's just letting other companies handle their dead IP's now, I'm just sayin'

A certain game about capturing a bunch of primates with silly hats would probably do pretty well on Nintendo hardware
Do not give me hope. I don't know if my poor old heart can take it

So.... How do you feel about Tomodachi Life and Rhythm Heaven coming back? Do you think this will impact the content they get in Smash?
As they should, and I hope so

Why do you guys think these guys were skipped over?
If it’s about Smash 4, 3DS limitations for the same reason as the Ice Climbers. Although not sure if it was them specifically in Smash 4 that was cut since the series has an unused icon.

Ultimate was probably just lack of priority.

In Smash 4, the 3DS version had limitations, so they might not have been able to add the Chorus Kids. In Ultimate, 'Everyone is Here!' resulted in fewer base game slots compared to previous entries. Regarding DLC, characters like Byleth, Min Min, and Pyra/Mythra were prioritized for Nintendo characters.

If Nintendo specifically aims to add a second Nintendo franchise (with Ring Fit being the first) without a playable character, Rhythm Heaven could be a candidate. However, other franchises like Astral Chain, Famicom Detective Club, and Golden Sun are also possibilities. Perhaps the best chance for Rhythm Heaven is if Sakurai seeks a rhythm-based moveset, though alternatives like the Squid Sisters and Don-Chan exist. I'm not very confident about Rhythm Heaven's chances in the base game; an Assist Trophy and stage seem more likely

You know what I just noticed? Something I just now realized?

We got another look at Metroid Prime 4, and we didn't see hide nor hair of Sylux.
If we hadn't already seen Sylux in the reveal trailer, I'd be laughing so damn hard.

I have absolutely no complaints about a Sony character coming as a newcomer to the Super Smash Bros. series, but on the other hand, is it really a good idea?
It will definitely be a good idea from a marketing prespective, a (popular) Sony character would be HUGE and i'm sure it would sell some Switch 2's and Smash 6 copies if it happens.
Honestly, as long it's a videogame character, then i think they're mostly fine for Smash Bros. as playable character The only characters i'd call not a good idea are non-videogame characters or REALLY obscure indie games.

As far as today's Direct, it wasn't bad. Part of it is I had no strong expectations anyway, so getting the likes of Everybody's Golf, Prime 4 footage, and Marvel Cosmic Invasion was just a bonus. Throw in the fact that I'm generally happy for Tomodachi Life and Rhythm Heaven fans getting overdue releases, and (even as someone with not much interest in either franchise) you have a presentation that did deliver for some fans.

In many ways this is similar, yet different to the infamous farming Direct in Sept 2022. While that felt like a splash of cold water (that at least did help me to better adjust my expectations for Directs going forward) because it was the last general presentation we would get for almost six months, this being right before the Switch 2 video next week had me pleased that the company's at least keeping up a wide range of releases for the system.

It's funny, prior to today I was a bit grumpy at not getting this Direct a month ago, but watched this one again after I got home, it works far better in the context of right before the next system presentation than being more isolated in February like it could have been.

I know this will never happen, but would anyone like Regina and a stage from Capcom's Dino Crisis series in Super Smash Bros. series?

Yeah, it's a good appetizer. They're probably saving the big guns for next week, but it's impressive that they managed to squeeze a thirty-minute direct out of the last few Switch titles and still have some neat reveals. Hopefully this frees up the Switch 2 direct to focus on the early system sellers.

It might be a possibility if/when Capcom actually remembers what Dino Crisis is.
I mean, the new PC ports on GOG weren't that long ago, so someone remembers at least. Don't think it'll amount to anything substantial though. I could see it getting the Darkstalkers treatment where they at least acknowledge its existence from time to time.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'll be going back into my "when will Haunting Ground be remembered" corner.

So, which Rhythm Heaven rep should be in the next Smash due to Groove being announced? I was thinking the 3 Chorus Kids. They can attack in 3 beats.
I guess the Chorus Kids make sense but I can’t for the life of me understand why basically everyone rallied around them (other than maybe their appearance in the Gemstsu leak?)when there are so many more visually interesting Rythm Heaven characters and minigames. I’m not sure what makes them noteworthy. Like, I guess they must be, considering they keep getting cameo appearances but anyone from Rhythm Heaven would do IMO.

People always talk about having a playable “Rhythm Team” or a character that summons / shape shifts into different Rhythm Heaven characters.

If a Rhythm Heaven character joins Smash and functions in this way, then I am now convinced that the character should be named “You.” There is no other way.

I always thought that Patapon and Hot Shots Golf look like Nintendo-style games and here they are, actually on a Nintendo console.

I guess LocoRoco is next?
I've had a similar thought for years (ESPECIALLY regarding the Hot Shots series as a whole [Golf, Tennis, etc.]), so while I'm still a bit surprised about HSG coming to a Nintendo console, I'm actually quite happy to see this being a thing.

Really, the only thing I have reservations on is that I worry people will compare this to Mario's sports games...

So.... How do you feel about Tomodachi Life and Rhythm Heaven coming back? Do you think this will impact the content they get in Smash?
At the very least, I assume this means Tomodachi Life (the stage) has a pretty good shot at returning for the next Smash Bros. game.

As for Rhythm Heaven? I'd LOVE a character, but after two games? I'm keeping my expectations in check and simply expecting a stage at least. Also, while I'm obviously not actively hoping for it... I think I might need to also consider the possibility of Rhythm Heaven simply getting an AT character as well...

So, which Rhythm Heaven rep should be in the next Smash due to Groove being announced? I was thinking the 3 Chorus Kids. They can attack in 3 beats.
Honestly, would it be safe to say that 3DS limitations are what held these guys back the first time around?

Y'all are saying Chorus Kids but I know who the real Rhythm Heaven rep should be:

The girl in the red dress is the default look, while the rest of them could be her alts.
Nice to see someone else on the 'Yuka for Smash Bros.' train! Crazy thing is, she actually has even more options for alts., if you know where to look. monabeat-the-beat-rhythm-pa-4ffb054add540.jpg mona27wvo5k.jpg mona15995_916406.jpg
Amazingly enough, ALL the same girl.

And this isn't even getting into the outfits she could borrow from other R.H. ladies, like MC Adore, T.J. Snapper's girlfriend, The Dazzles, the Donpans, the Squadmates, and the Cheer Readers.

Dino Crisis and Haunting Ground I can see happening before Darkstalkers, because Capcom at least has the current RE team which could easily remake either game with the right motivation. Heck, Resident Evil Village(and RE7 a bit) felt very reminiscent of Haunting Ground at times and also had some great horror moments, so it'd be great if the RE8 team was brought back for a Haunting Ground remake.

Because regardless of whether or not there are "more visually interesting characters", they were apparently the choice that Sakurai picked for the role. Regardless of what anyone thinks of them personally, they stand the highest odds of inclusion unless something newer catches his eye.

Very very happy about us getting a Gradius collection by M2 - it even has the full suite of features they give their other shmup ports, and they're putting in **** like trade show prototypes that have never resurfaced before. I'm also happy Salamander 2's getting a new port after so long. To be honest, my biggest disappointment is that they couldn't manage to get Gradius Gaiden on there - it's one of the best-regarded entries in the series and it's stuck on like, the PSP.

Given Konami's tendency to stagger out collections for franchises with various entries (Castlevania getting 3 collections alone without even counting Requiem) it seems like it'll probably be the same with Gradius. Them doing the same with Parodius via an enhanced edition of the Portable PSP Collection in the next couple of years wouldn't surprise me either.

So my thought on a Rhythm heaven character in Smash 6... I still think the chances are very low, if not 0? I mean, the game is releasing in 2026, so the only way the new game matter if is either Smash haven't even started development or for some reason Sakurai decided to keep a open spot for Rhythm heaven like he did with Pokémon X and Y (and yeah, the chance of that happening are extremly low because Rhythm heaven isn't Pokémon). Personally I feel like a 2026 release is just way too late to be considered for Smash 6 and this will be a Arms / Xenoblade 2 case "sorry they miss the boat". And I don't see Rhythm heaven making it as dlc since in Smash 4, Megamix was right there and they did nothing with it.

I've had a similar thought for years (ESPECIALLY regarding the Hot Shots series as a whole [Golf, Tennis, etc.]), so while I'm still a bit surprised about HSG coming to a Nintendo console, I'm actually quite happy to see this being a thing.

Considering how bad the Mario golf is on Switch I don't think the comparaison will be a bad thing for Hot shot golf.

Personally I find Yuka to be the worst choice to add as a character. She does have mascot status, and appears decently often in a couple different minigames but like...she's just a girl.

I guess a similar complaint can (and is) made with Karate Joe in that he's just a karate dude, but he at least shows a fun personality in his games where Yuka just kinda smiles at the camera.

To be honest, I feel like the Rhythm Heaven rep should be more of an ensemble similar to Mr. Game & Watch, but barring that I'd rather go for one of the little goobers like the Chourus Kids, the Clappy Trio, Barista, or Tibby.
