SNK has got to have the craziest history of any game company ever.
It had been a while since I had heard, so I decided I should do a fact check (a little late, but whatever). SNK is currently owned by Saudi Arabian MiSK Foundation, which is linked to Crown Prince Bohammed bin Salaman.

So government involvement might not actually have anything to do with Ronaldo in Fatal Fury, but it is just as weird.

so, possibly staring at some combination of....

FE4 remake
Kirby Robobot
something for MP4
some smaller low-budget IP not yet on Switch

?

this might actually be not so bad, esp. w the expectations so low going in, and the promise of Switch 2 stuff soon after no matter what happens.

Why Planet Robobot specifically? If they were remaking/remastering the 3Ds games wouldn't they start with Triple Deluxe?
Robobot was rumored a while back to be coming to the Switch sometime this year I think.

I feel like that Layton World of Steam game or whatever it was called might be there? We still don't know much about that, but depends on how Level-5's been doing with it.

....I kinda want to see Gordon Ramsey as a fighter in something now.
He better be like Phoenix Wright with a mix of cutlery and kitchenware, but also speech bubbles consisting of his most memed phrases as well as an "ingredient finder" where he collects pieces of ingredients that when he collects all of them upgrades his attacks and allows him to do a Level-3 Super "Critic" attack of him criticising the opponent's "food".

Assuming Sakurai’s project isn’t Smash and we don’t get a new Smash game for at least 4-5 years from now, would you all rather have a Fighter’s Pass 3 for Ultimate to hold us over until then or would you rather just not have any Smash content at all?
Gimmie that Smash Booster Course Pass! Get Ultimate to Fighter No. 100!

15 Farming Simulators on their way to be revealed as the final Switch 1 releases:
Maximillian: "Tools in the ground. That's 50 gift subs."

Then again, I'm of the opinion that we'll have everyone back again and it'll be a better graphics "Ultimate Deluxe" but that's neither here nor there.

Mostly, I'm expecting one or two very small titles (like the Kirby gourmet race spinoff thingy tier small), a couple remakes, Nintendo Switch Online stuff, and a bunch of indies you likely haven't heard of.

Unrelated, but you know those Animation Versus Animator YouTube videos? Well there's a new platform fighter* in development called Animation Versus based of it and the Animation Versus Minecraft series (sans the Minecraft IP related stuff for obvious reasons). It's also has Munno, a popular Rivals of Aether Workshop developer as its lead developer. It looks really cool, so you might want to check it out.

*It's a platform fighter in terms of movement and control scheme, but blends traditional fighting game mechanics into the mix.

Joined the Kickstarter earlier today, it already looks extremely promising and only seems like it'll get better since it's currently crushing through a lot of its meatier goals right now. Hopefully that Rogulelike mode and 11th character are locked in as well.

This is the kinda fusion between series and gameplay that you'd never think of but makes a ton of sense. Really excited for the Beta tests!

That's about the most I think they're gonna do next week, if they do anything Smash-related.
I mean if we get a Ultimate Port there's a chance they do reveal it there, sure it's unlikely, but technically a posibility.
If we get a Smash 6 i think it's likely going to be radio silence in the Switch 2 direct.

Sorry I meant a Brand New smash, I am actually on the Smash 64 train, but I am so high on copium that I still believe in Kid Icarus.
I mean wasn't Sakurai's tweet in response to the Direct coming tomorrow? In which case new Smash was always impossible since tomorrow's Direct is for Switch 1 games.

The port thing keeps getting brought up as a possibility but like, is it really? Considering Smash never does them unless for some reason you count 64 on Wii VC as a "port", the system is backwards compatible...

Like this whole thing about an Ultimate port makes me think about if someone came in here during Smash 4 speculation and said "I don't think we're gonna get a Smash 4, I think they're just gonna port Brawl to the Wii U", which was a ludicrous idea even at the time that wouldn't be given the time of day.

The only time the port conversation was actually valid imo was during pre-Ultimate because Mario Kart 8 Deluxe came out in April 2017, so it made sense for people to be like "Well Mario Kart got ported, so Smash could do the same" up until it DIDN'T, so I have no idea why on earth Ultimate would ever be ported onto a system that can already play it.

Sakurai doesn't seem like the type to go stoke the fire for no reason. Some of the fanbase alleges he does this often, but he really doesn't. He doesn't usually comment on Directs so him doing so seems conspicuous to me.

Now, people going SMASH 6 REVEAL?! is some craziness, but something related to Sakurai being there... seems plausible to me.

Regarding non-Smash related things, if we do get Kid Icarus Uprising remaster on either system, I really hope they update Hades' line about 25 years at the end to something like "You all have been incredibly patient so far, we're about halfway through that 25 years I mentioned last time. Just another 12 or so years to go! Ta-ta!"

what if for the English dub of the KI:U remaster, re-dubs the dialogues with the voices from Smash?
Even with the other characters that aren't?

It definitely is, at least in my opinion. I do think it's more likely to be a new game, but probably not. However, I'd say the possibility is still there. If Nintendo and/or Sakurai think it's not worth making a new game because of the number of cuts they'll have to make, it's definitely possible they'll opt for an Ultimate Deluxe and perhaps even turn it into a semi-live service game. The fan demand for more Ultimate is definitely there. I've seen lots of people who want Ultimate to turn into League of Legends: Platform Fighter Edition.

Nintendo can easily take the safe route, as Ultimate Deluxe will probably sell as well as Smash 6, if not better—especially if they take a LoL approach to Ultimate Deluxe. This is a pretty popular opinion among casual fans, from what I've seen.

The only other people I've seen requesting a Smash 6 besides me are other hardcore Smash fans. Honestly, it's not as popular of a request as some people think. Many overestimate how many people care about the gameplay or non-roster stuff. A lot of people only care about Smash because of its massive roster and the possibility it could reach 100+ fighters like LoL. So, a Smash 6 wouldn't be something they'll be interested in if there are cuts.

Do i personally want a Ultimate Deluxe? Not at all Do i think it's a posibility? Absolutely, and i feel like it's a bit overlooked in this forum.

I have no idea why on earth Ultimate would ever be ported onto a system that can already play it.
Well, having the Ultmate DLC in the base game would be a way to preserve the DLC of Ultimate, not that they probably care about gaming preservation, but it's a reason.

Only thing am hoping for is the Zelda remakes :4link::4tlink:. And of course Fire Emblem 4. Anything Fire Emblem or Zelda in general would be appreciated.

I don't expect much for Donkey Kong unfortunately. If anything at all.

Maybe a Metroid 2 3DS re-remake?

I'd be shocked if Level-5 isn't in this Direct somewhere. Between the highly anticipated new Layton and Fantasy Life titles and the new IP DecaPolice we know next to nothing about, Level-5 has plenty to potentially showcase.

On a similar note, I could see an announcement of the Professor Layton/Ace Attorney crossover getting a rerelease. It's the only mainline Ace Attorney not on modern platforms, and Capcom have been going back and rereleasing their crossover titles as of recent, and with Level-5 trying to re-establish itself westside I can't imagine them saying no.

Wait, what did I miss? Why are people saying we might get Fighter’s Pass 3 announced today? I thought everyone wrote that off as a possibility.

This is a part that I have to disagree with. Because it's been brought up again but, an Ultimate Deluxe except for taking quite a slew of effort of its own (RE-negotiating every character, RE-designing everything for a graphical update, making additional new content and potential new movesets etc. It's actually a lot and like putting it up like this makes a ton of sense why Sakurai says that Ultimate is unlikely to happen again), is taking a slew of effort for being a Deluxe version of a game that has sold extremely well (so pretty much anyone who's wanted it has it) and one that is still available on the new console (so it's not out of sale either). So I think that it's a huge oversell to say that an Ultimate Deluxe will sell better than a new Smash 6, one that has all the potential to be a different game with an identity of its own.
And I would really like to add that this is not a popular prediction by casual fans, this is moreso popular wishful thinking by the folks who have no idea how game dev works and who don't want/can't cope with a game having cuts. And honestly, I don't see how people caring only about Smash's large roster makes the possibility of Smash 6 any less possible or the possibility of Ultimate Deluxe any more likely because again, Ultimate is still there to be played or see another uptick in sales if people are so soured on the new Smash game, and also like, I don't think Nintendo themselves expect the new Smash game to sell better than Smash Ultimate anyway. This is known to be believed to be a one-time special occasion and while I'm not arguing that they are ready for it to flop or anything (even though tbh, Smash has a name of its own as a franchise that it's hard to see it completely flopping) but I think they are very much aware of the new game not reaching Ultimate's numbers even if it turns into a profit in itself. Point of it all is, that even if the cuts that the casuals hate so much, a new Smash game is still going to sell and even if the new Smash won't sell, those who want a larger roster are still covered by Ultimate and because Ultimate exists and it's the success that it is, even if Ultimate Deluxe gives like so much content that for some reason couldn't go into a new Smash game, it still targeting an audience that HAS the game and is asking them to re-pay for a game they already own.

One thing I find frustrating is the notion that a game is going to sell anyways just on name alone and the actual quality of the game doesn’t matter. I see this a lot from Smash fans who say the game is going to sell just as well even if half the roster is cut just because it’s Smash. Pokémon proves that’s not exactly wrong but it feels like a disservice to the things people actually like about the games. It’s not just the roster. I feel like that mindset is what leads to developers half-assing their games because they know people will buy it anyways. We’ve known Sakurai long enough to know that he doesn’t half-ass anything but it’s the principle that bothers me.
